Heard it's the best place for omakase in JB, getting a reservation was pretty tough but someone cancelled 😛 Head chef is from KL and has experience from Sushi Ryu, Kampachi and a couple of other places. I think what made the experience a lot better was the friendliness of the team behind the counter. They talked and laughed with the customers which, in a sense, livens up the ambience. I truly enjoyed the food I had here and I was super full by the time the me was over. The food served bore some resemblance to the food I had in Sushi Ryu, albeit with a more personal touch since the service at Ryu wasn't as lively. For the price, I'd say it was well worth it since there were super generous toppings of Uni, caviar & truffle! The botan ebi & foie gras topped w caviar sushi was something new for me. He used a special charcoal to cook/smoke the foie gras which made it very fragrant. Also the scallop & uni wrapped in seaweed was good! Will definitely come back for dinner again the next time I'm down in JB 😋😋

Extremely disappointed with Sushi Shin, order the course priced RM388+10% tax, the sushi is ok but just like normal Japanese restaurant, the portion is extremely small, the prawn soup is tasteless and the so called seasonal dessert is serve with frozen berries and strawberry, not even fresh fruit. Strongly not recommended for those who want to try Omakase, there is other better option in JB but definitely not this! Overrated and overpriced.

Very nice omakase location. We had the Hoshi set lunch. The starter and appetisers were light but were already bursting with flavours. The sushi were all very enjoyable with different texture and different preparation techniques. Especially the tuna belly it really melts in your mouth. Chawanmushi was topped with foie gras which is simply lovely and rock melon is best part of the dessert.

Came in for a birthday dinner omakase for my wife. Had a very enjoyable time with the friendly chefs striking a conversation now and then, gave an introduction for every dish served and answered our questions on the dishes patiently. We both had the Waza Omakase and added on the A5 Matsusaka Wagyu and it was simply well worth the price. Caviar, truffles and foie gras galore! We will definitely be back, and would heartily recommend friends and family to dine and experience Omakase at Sushi Shin. P/S - Omakase means “Leave it to the Chef”, so the dishes change depending on your preferences, allergies if any (they do ask prior to starting), and availability (seasonal etc).

A HUGE rip off. I came to this place twice. On the first occasion, I actually took their most expensive menu and had found the experience reasonably good. On the second occasion, my wife and I decided to go for their lower range price (265 RM Per person inc taxes) thinking they would still match a certain standard. Gosh... I was wrong. This menu was such a joke that I was literally laughing when the waiter served the 3rd and 4th dishes. So for 265 RM you end up getting one small plate of 5 sushis (that taste like any normal JP restaurant in JB), one soup that tastes just like any simple miso (with 2 small cubes of fish meat inside) and one single scoop of lemon ice cream (which tastes nice though nothing special). So in summary, for nearly 300 RM (corresponding to a very high price in JB), you end up getting some very average table spoon portions. You may want to go for their higher range prices and get a nicer experience, but overall, this place is a Crook and not worth your money and time. I am a huge foodie and somebody who usually does not hesitate to spend money in prime restaurants. However, here the minimal standard to expect was absolutely not met, and I feel sorry for all the people who will be taken advantage of by these illegitimate practices.

I was having our first omakase dinner with my family. We was greeted warmly by the crew the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The chef was very charismatic as they tried to engage with us with casual conversation and explain every dishes in detail upon serving. The food is perfect and the presentation was good. Overall a big thumbs up to the SushiShin, and we will definitely come back for another round of omakase!

Came on a Friday night and there were only 2 pairs of customers including us. Which was perfect! Each pair of customers got the full attention of a friendly chef each, who answers all your questions and happily engage in conversations with you. there were more wait staff than customers; staff refills drink and helps with everything without missing a mark. My favourites nigiri were the otoro and engawa; they melt in your mouth. Also love that the 488++RM Omakase included ingredients such as caviar, uni, lobster, foie gras and Japanese muskmelon.

Really enjoyed the Omakase experience. The seafood was fresh and delicious, and the chef and staff were attentive to our needs. They were friendly and shared with us about the ingredients and food when we asked. Really recommend this place!

Surprisingly pretty decent standard of sushi given this is in JB instead of the regular conveyer belt sushi standards. Probably the best you can find in Johor. However at RM488++ I was expecting a little more food (especially sushi, only 7 pieces). The sushi rice was a little bit on the sweeter side, probably added in a bit too much sugar when mixing with the vinegar, but not a big problem. Have to highlight that they also used akazu vinegar which is something that I like. There was a sashimi dish which had some truffle on top, but it was starting to curl up. However, truffle didn't really add much to the dish if not for the truffle oil in the pozu sauce. Overall I'd say there are definitely things that can be improved on but given that it's a relatively new restaurant it's definitely understandable. In terms of value, I can find restaurants that offer me more and of a similar qualities in Singapore and maybe even KL but if you are stuck in Johor like me. This is your best choice if you have a craving for some proper sushi.

They are good at sushi, but poor course...poor place...surprised when I reaxch there compared their marked up price. Just poor shop house place. Chawanmushi and miso soup cannot be included in the omakase course. It is not a course meal. Side dish. They have to see, try how are the other japanese omakase operated in MY or other places. Really poor experience with this price in Jb consideirng location as well.

Great overall experience with Chef Wesley. We had both the 268rm & 468rm Omakase lunch, ingredients were fresh. Will be back again.👍🏻

Was late for over 30 minutes due to the heavy traffic on roads leading to woodlands check-point but staff were really understanding and accommodative, even surprising my husband and I with a ‘happy anniversary’ complimentary dessert at the end of our dinner. Really enjoyed the omakase, yummy and surprisingly filling; plus our chef was friendly and attentive, definitely will come back !

Had the RM 888 ++/pax menu and a RM 338++/bottle of 720ml Dassai 39. Here’s the experience : - Rowdy crowd including chefs themselves. No peace throughout the whole dining experience. - Sashimi were pre-cut, not freshly prepared in front of customers. Feels like having dinner at Sushi King. - Chefs do not clean their knives after cutting different types of fishes. They were talking too much while preparing others’ order (not ours). FYI, they had masks and gloves on. - Pickled ginger were not sliced, served in pieces as big as “garlic cloves”. - Overdosed the first sushi with wasabi, couldn’t taste the freshness of the fish. - Staff are unable to tell us the difference between the sakes The 3 stars are awarded for : - Prompt refills of sake and tea by the waiting staff - Good selection of sakes - Good amount of caviar and truffles Notes : Do not expect the quality and experience to meet the minimum standards of omakase served in Sushi Ori, Kuala Lumpur or Shinji, Singapore. They need some time to brush up and improve. At the mean time, opt for the lower range of omakase to lower the expectation.

The best experience in jb I've tried. Many surprises and very good fresh quality of seafood. I once was afraid of Uni smell but over here they served high quality Hokkaido uni and really surprised my tastebuds, totally love it. The rest u guys really need come personally to try them. Totally worth the pricetag and best omakse ever.

Great omakase. Very nice food, good value, good interaction with the chef who explained each dish as well as engaged in conversation. Well-balanced flavours, well presented dishes. Left feeling satisfied but not overly full or in a food coma. As for what can be better….the first item(variety of fish on a Monaka-ish base) of the 3 cold dishes was a little heavy for an appetizer as compared to the monkfish liver and sashimi. Perhaps something lighter as the first dish would be more suitable.

First Omakase experience, well guided and the staff makes us feel comfortable. Very good price, tried the entry menu. Next time will try the other menu with more dishes.

Sushi fish is not so fresh. Too much use of Caviar to cover the original taste.

Inconsistent food taste. Expensive compare to Spore. But when food is consistent, it can be very delicious. Eat is your own risk

This restaurant and its omakase Chef have exceeded our expectations for the second time, making our special occasions truly memorable. Our first experience on my birthday and second experience on our wedding anniversary, showcased the Chef's dedication and effort in crafting a delightful omakase dinner. Each visit offered a unique array of flavours, and we were thoroughly impressed with the culinary expertise. We want to express our gratitude for the delicious and enjoyable dining experiences. Without a doubt, we'll be returning for more omakase experiences. Highly recommend this restaurant to all who appreciate exceptional food and service!
