First visit despite living in KC for almost 2 decades. I don't drink alcohol, but I've heard this place is known for their margaritas & it is also the first place that the Boulevard beer was ever sold. The service was incredibly quick & my meal was delectable! Everyone was having an enjoyable time & the atmosphere was very friendly. Located right off of i35 & Southwest Blvd in a bright green building :)

The food is amazing but this is a hidden gem on Southwest Boulevard-the margaritas are the star of the show The food is amazing and great but we come for the combo of both the margaritas and the staff is above and beyond! Definitely recommend this KC staple!

I haven't been to Ponak's for about 25 years and after last night I realized, I've been missing out. There were 3 of us and everyone's food was a huge portion and delicious. The Taco Salad was great and I was barely able to finished it. The Chicken Nachos were massive and they had a ton of cheese. We got a pitcher of Margaritas and had a great meal. Our waitress did a great job and she rocked it.

Food was amazing and staff friendly and accommodating. Always super busy-call ahead for a reservation at least 30 minutes-more during meal times and on weekends. Margarita pitchers are $32, so be warned. Portion sizes are huge. Red salsa isn't very good; salsa verde is, but on the spicy side. Try the queso blanco!

This was recommended to me by the locals. I'll start by saying I'm happy with the recommendation! The food is very reasonable,very tasty, and to top off with a great price highest thing being the margaritas at $20. So to go out to get some great food and a good buzz you're not breaking the bank. Only complaint is parking can be rough so get here early or be prepared to walk. Overall will definitely come again. (Sorry for the pictures they couldn't wait the food was that good)

We came here looking for grilled fish tacos. And they were very good. Service was fast, guac and queso was very tasty. Prices were reasonable. The fish tacos had quite a bit of fish in them. Fajitas were tasty. We want to come back and try their shrimp.

Ponaks is our family tradition to celebrate birthdays. The servers seem to be at on the top of drinks, chips and salsa. Atmosphere is family friendly and lots of tvs for sports watching in the bar area. The drinks are great and food plentiful. Parking can be tricky. Plan to arrive early as the place fills up quickly.

This was my second time coming to Ponaks. We showed up around 2 o clock and ordered half pitcher margaritas. The salsa is so good and spicy! Our bartender was very friendly and funny! He convinced us to stay until Happy Hour started :) Will be coming back to try more food off the menu!

First time back since Covid. Decor was updated and the murals were gone. Place looked nice. Food was excellent, wish the portions would have been a little bigger it was so good. Luckily we got parking, that can be difficult. We got there at the perfect time as there was no wait for a table. Once we left there was a wait. We will be back.

I go to Ponak’s Mexican Kitchen & Bar all the time with friends and family. It has a rich Kansas City history and Boulevard Brewing Company, just down the street, sold their first keg here. Go for the Margaritas, which are strong, stay for the great local Mexican food. Family friendly atmosphere. Usually there is a bit of a wait, but I have come to expect this because everyone else in KC likes this place as much as I do.

Great place! I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was the best I've ever had. Thick, juicy grilled chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, grilled almost pita style thing. Amazing!

Order a number 3 and bring your appetite! Great food and atmosphere. Great staff.

Great food, friendly staff. Surprisingly when we went (party of 4) there was no wait. It was Sunday around 4:30. I would recommend this place for sure.

My family went around 3:45pm on a Saturday and it was packed! However, we were seated pretty quickly. Our server, Robin, was taking over the night shift and was able to get our table, plus at least four other tables orders in and drinks out relatively quickly considering how busy she was! My order, the deep fried flour shell tacos were awesome! My husband's pork Chile tamale was perfect, but our daughter wasn't a fan of the pork quesadilla. Overall, we had a good experience. We will definitely be back but sit in the bar area because there are no TVs to watch sports in the main dining area.

There is only 1 Ponak’s, it’s a KC institution everyone should visit. I don’t even live in KC but always go when I return. Simply the best margarita’s anywhere. Unique and not like what you’ve had before, made with Rose’s Lime Juice and a good amount of booze. Bonus, you can get them to go. Their food is great, excellent Tex-Mex style. Highly recommend the Sonoran Tacos, deep fried to perfection. But everything is good. Good chance there will be a small wait but tables turn quick, just have a pitcher of margs while you wait. Always fast service and nice folks.

Oh gosh, THE FOOD and Drinks ARE AMAZING‼️ THE atmosphere is incredible, the place is always packed but, they have the BEST SERVICE EVER They have the best service! so amazing they bring chips and salsa at your table the minute you get set down, then immediately they take your drink orders Right after that, the server takes your order Your perfect food is served with in a few minutes~ no joke They can move tables and chairs together to accommodate 10 OR MORE people, I saw them do it two times One group was 12 to 13 and the other was 8 to 10... they were served just like it was a small group!! Awesome AWESOME PLACE I will be back ASAP 😋😋😋🤲 YUMMY

This place is a must go in the area. If you like things spicy make sure you mix in the green salsa with the red. If you want to go a little off menu get the Burrito Papas add chrizo, cover it with white queso and get a fried egg on top. Anyone I’ve taken there ends up getting this item and love it!

Good visit with my favorite humans. Loved this place. I'm told historic joint and I can see why. Really had good time. Busy but no waiting. Food was great and portions were large. Highly recommended.

Some of the best (strongest) margaritas in the city. I really don't love the food here. That's a personal thing but I find it not overly flavorful. Fun place to hang out at happy hour and talk to eccentric drunk locals.

TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! best flavor and that cheese...ohh so good. Jon Ponak has it special ordered from a place in Wisconsin. Also the taco Sonora with carnitas and tamales are my personal favorite. However, there's no bad choices on the menu...In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Kansas City and beyond! Don't forget to order an attitude adjustment a.k.a. margarita!!! Gracias!

Ordered 1 dish to split with my girlfriend. They actually split the 2 burritos with even portions into two plates, very satisfied with them going above and beyond. Service very quick and efficient. We were hungry, jalapeños salsa was 10/10, this place is always poppin..
