Incredible and fantastic! Could not recommend more, 10 out 10. We literally just went to the Louvre and I enjoyed it here more. Not crowded, cool and refreshing air-conditioning. Beautiful artwork, wonderfully displayed. I felt like I got to go to a private section of the Louvre. Had I not gone I would have no idea how nice it was, we went across the world to see the thinker, when you had a copy right here, just a few states away!!! The glass maze was fun. Our son enjoyed the scavenger hunt, he puts on the pin he won on each shirt wears each day.

I absolutely love this place. Most of the galleries are free to the public and the exhibits that require a fee are very moderately priced. Nelson has one of the most significant art of Asia exhibits in the United States. In fact, many of the specimens here in the Nelson are shown in my Art of East Asia Art History text book for my BFA. This place has a fun little Egyptian art exhibit with a crusty old mummy which I must say is very well preserved and the display is exquisite. The restaurant has high quality foods at relatively affordable prices. You could spend a whole day here if you wanted. The sculpture yard is a good place to have a picnic on a warmer day and overall I’d just highly recommend you check out the Nelson Atkins.

What a magical place for all ages and art lovers of all types and perspectives. Art through the ages presented in thoughtful and engaging ways. Parking is extra if you are not a member, but admission is free. Mostly helpful staff, some are better than others, but overall very helpful. You could spend days there and not see everything. Free coat check is a bonus and a terrific restaurant as well. Can’t wait to go back.

What a beautiful museum! Went here for the first time about 10-11 years ago the very first time I met my now husband. It’s free, and has spectacular pieces. You really can’t get through it all in one day and appreciate it. The outdoor gardens and artwork is equally beautiful, and you can’t forget the giant shuttlecocks! I will come here any time I have the chance when I’m in KC.

This place is absolutely amazing. It's huge and has 3 floors full of art. Parking in the garage is free for 30 minutes, and $14 after that. Entrance to the museum is free but you need to check in at the desk and get a wrist band. There are so many great things to look at in there, and i feel like you'd need more than 6 hours to really see and appreciate everything. The museum staff is amazing, and everyone seems passionate about their job. I love this place.

This is an amazing art museum. The museum has many great artworks from artist such as Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. The museum is well laid-out and contains artwork from classic European artist to modern American artists. The museum also has a great sculpture collection. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and eager to assist if you have any questions. Outside of the museum is a great place for a picnic or activities outdoor activities, such as a glass maze. I highly recommend this museum for a day trip.

Nelson-Atkins Museum is such a hidden gem and probably one of the top museums on the country! The collection is phenomenal, especially the Asian art that’s collected from specific periods that’s hard to obtain. On top of it all, it’s free to visit! Really love the exterior and the shuttlecocks and the sculpture garden. I’ll recommend spending a whole day here and grabbing lunch at Rozzelle. Use the map to plan out which sections are the most important to you and check them out first before they get crowded and then you can cover the rest. There is also a nice coffee shop in the museum. The staff is nice and helpful. Parking is $14 for the whole day and it’s covered and cool. Make sure to get a reservation beforehand to make entry easy and seamless.

A world class museum with exhibits from every era and culture. We spent four hours and could have easily spent 4 more. Free general admission, spotless facilities and a spectacular restaurant along with a gift shop make for a great inside experience. Outside, the lovely grounds and sculpture garden are well worth the stroll.

This museum was one of my first visited places when deciding to move to Kansas City. It was beautiful and very organized, spacious and clean. I would love to visit again soon. It made a good impression on me and pushed me to move to this city. There are several floors with magnificent art/explanations behind the artists’ work as well as a fully stocked gift shop with some very unique finds. It’s great for a personal day, date night or family occasion.

This is a pretty spectacular museum and very worth going to. Art spanning many time periods and cultures including the facade of a Chinese temple. Pottery, sculptures, pictures by the Masters, Egyptian mummy, suit of armour; we did not budget nearly enough time to take it all in and will absolutely return next time we're in Kansas City. Underground parking is available for a flat rate of $14. (Parking is free with military ID...very nice).

A wonderful art museum. Rivals the St. Louis Art Museum in many ways. Lovely architecture and very good exhibits. Only downside is that the layout can be a bit confusing for first timers and some of the smaller gallery rooms on the first floor and can feel claustrophobic. Other than that, it is lovely to visit and really a good experience. I really loved the ancient art sections and the Japanese room.

This was what made our trip to Kansas City very memorable. The building is classical architecture; the art is top notch, world class. Beautiful! I cannot overstate how gorgeous the entire inside exhibits spaces were, especially the restaurant Rozzelle. Like walking into Rome! Stonewalls, archways, frescoed ceilings, water fountain, columns, and more. This is a must-see. And it free admission...

Great place to visit when in Kansas city. It’s free but if you register online before coming over it’s much easier to sign in. It has a small restaurant so that you can enjoy your food in the museum vibe. Check the working days as they are not open every day. Consider a min 2 hours, better if you can spend more time here.

100% worth the stop whether you have an hour or all day. Easily could spend a day exploring this museum. I wish I had more time and will be coming back to catch more of the exhibits. Excellent help around to point you in the right direction as well. All the exhibits I did get to see were so amazingly presented and had information easily presented along side each piece.

Amazing museum with a large variety of art on display. Ranging from different eras of history and from cultures I don't think anyone would be disappointed to visit this museum from ancient China to Ancient Egypt to contemporary U.S there's a little something for everyone

This is a truly amazing museum with so much to see both inside and outside. Admission is free but you should still book online prior to your visit. They have a parking garage that is reasonably priced at $14. You should plan on at least 3 hours if you want to walk the entire museum.

Fantastic museum! The museum was built in the early 1900s, and the architecture inside was so beautiful. They have incorporated pieces into the actual building, and have a wide variety that everyone will enjoy. The cafe was peaceful and beautiful, with decent prices. The grounds surround the museum were great, and the sculpture garden was fun to walk around in.

Been coming here for 30 years & it's always interesting to see the changes they are making. The sculpture park is a great break between the Main building & the Contemporary Exhibits, chance for the kids to stretch their legs. Also a nice place for a picnic. I have to say the glass maze is wild! Highly recommend but watch your step! Love the changes but definitely miss the Rodin exhibit that was on the second floor balcony.

One of the most beautiful museums I have been to. The internal courtyard is the perfect spot for a break, live the gardens and the sculptures outside. They host important art pieces, loved the ancient Egypt area. Every time I visit KC I pay a visit. Also, the admission fee is free.

Had a great afternoon exploring the gallery. The person at the front was very helpful when she learned it was our first time there. She showed us the map, and walked us through the exhibits that are there. It's fascinating to see all of the art and items on display, and even though I'm not very well versed, I found it to be very exciting to see everything. Spent about 2.5 hours there, but easily could have been there longer. My 15 year old son had a great time too.

If you are a true lover if art and haven’t been here, what are you waiting for?? No invite needed!! The Nelson is always having something big going on inside or outside. The Sunday we went, we decided to escape the real world and go to the 1930s to see the Art Deco Exhibit, Mini Art golf and the Nelson Lawn Event going on as well. Outside music filled the air, as did oversized bugs and food, food trucks as well as ice cream trucks, African dances, and the mini golf art. Inside was the special event of the art deco series now through January as well as the regular art to see all the time. The deco exhibit had some amazing 1930s cars, gowns, videos, electronics, and so much more! They had an old-time vacuum that could be purchased for $60 or so. Wouldn’t that be a nice break these days? There was art by one of our local black artists from decades ago who is extremely famous. Perhaps you can use that for a trivia quiz question during your tour! Some of the paintings shown are always displayed in the museum. So many cool things and not enough time!. The museum is always free but you do have to pay for a special exhibit or things that go on outside such as the mini golf. The lawn event was free however of course you pay for food drink and drank, 😉etc. The first 30 minutes of parking is free and aany time after that it is $12 per hour. You better move along quickly! The museum is neat and clean. The bathrooms were a little overflowing with trash however the most important place you need to plant your behind was clean. Ladies if you are wearing a backpack, you will be asked to wear it on your shoulder or to the front of you. 🤔 Don’t leave without checking out the phenomenal gift shop full of pieces made by local artists, jewelry, cards, posters/art, games/puzzles, & a plethora of much more. Get the history behind the bottle cap lids piece of art just a short distance from the gift shop. The pic shown below with a man holding two flattened lines of bottle caps, is to show you up close how they created this! It took years and a TON of bottle caps. Bet they had fun making that….with a few drinks along the way! 😬 When looking for something free, educational in a fun way, head down to the museum! Def catch photos of the statues inside and out, the oversized birdies, the silver tree, & more…all things I’m telling u to take a photo of yet I didn’t this time whoops! Enjoy!!

This museum has some of the most stunning architecture you could ever believe. It felt like I was in Europe for a brief moment. The workers were relaxed and kind and there is so much for you to see everywhere! Definitely recommend going out back to see the greenery or sit on a bench near the fountain.

Better than I ever imagined. We enjoyed every hour of our walk through the museum. There was a lot to see. The history, techniques, and talent were simply amazing. This is a perfect place to go on a hot day. Park in the cool underground parking lot (14.00) and enjoy the perfect indoor climate while enjoying the beautiful art.

This is a REAL MUSEUM with REAL ART. There ranges art from about the 1960's(?) to THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO. There are real Egyptian relics here. Amazing statues with immaculate details. All pieces have a description of their history and the meaning behind them. There are guides to help if you want, but I chose to wander around and explore. When I thought I had exhausted the place (after several hours), I found out there was another floor of art. It is free to enter, donations are welcome, but I recommend getting the tickets in advance to ensure there isn't any crowding (there probably won't be).

My Aunt and I spent the afternoon here, and wow, we could have spent even longer! (We didn't finish before they closed). This museum exceeded our expectations. The fact that it was free entry even made it more unbelievable. We were impressed with their vast collection. Definitely plan on at least 4 hours if you like to linger, looking at the different exhibits. Staff was friendly and even told us about different periods as we transitioned between exhibits.

Spent the afternoon at the new Monet exhibit; was even more impressed by the modern/contemporary art. All museum personnel I interacted with were incredibly friendly & gracious. The museum is on the most incredible grounds. I live in Nashville & did not realize there was a world-class museum just across the Mississippi from me!

A wonderful museum! It’s free to visit (the special exhibitions on the bottom floor are separate tickets that must be paid for, but are worth it). Plan to spend a whole day here if you want to see most of the exhibits. You will need more than one day to fully experience the whole museum. A must-do in the KC area!

When you love art and you happen to be in KC, you better take some time and see the Nelson-Atkinson Museum of Art. We spent almost 3 hours inside the walls of a beautiful collection of all types of art. Our favorite was the modern art wing that seems to just keep going. Enjoy!

I love this art museum. It’s always a great experience. I could spend forever here, alas I get tired and hungry I must go home. Even thought I’ve been several times, I keep coming back. I have favorite pieces I simply MUST revisit each time and then each time I find pieces that become new favorites that I hadn’t spent enough time studying and I noticed all the tiny details I missed before that makes me fall in love with them. The Nelson is an absolute gem!

This is a FREE museum! It’s very clean, quite & full of art! It’s huge, so there is plenty to enjoy. They have a wide variety of art on display from classic paintings & ancient Egypt, to modern art & minimalism. I’ve been to many museums and I always recommend this one. You could be here for hours, there’s something for everyone. I do think they could use a better cafeteria, with allergen free options. When you’re in the cafe, or the historial exhibits, or the pop art, you feel in a completely different area than the next.

Such an incredible museum with so much to see. In other places, you would pay a hefty entrance fee to see the type of things you see here for free. No matter the period of history you like best, you can lose yourself for hours in these exhibits. Be sure to see the Asian exhibit and the reproduction of the Buddhist temple. Impressive!

We were visiting KC from the UK, and our friend we were staying with highly recommended The Nelson Atkins Museum. There was so much stuff to look at, from a whole host of decades and cultures. My personal favourite was the selection of paintings as well as some of the Asian pieces of history on display. The gardens that surround the museum are wonderful too, even when we visited in April. The toilets we used were all clean and hygienic too, which is always a positive.

I really can't say enough good things about this museum. We utilize coat check which was easy and also stopped in the coffee shop which had amazing candies and local coffees and teas! The art and layout was unbelievable. We could have spent so many more hours there but we only had a couple before our flight left. We enjoyed lunch and they're really beautiful courtyard, we had the prime rib and the chicken entrees two glasses of wine and a Pellegrino and it was still under $50! What a great time and the food was delicious all the staff are fantastic also

One of the finest museums I have been in the world over. It’s also free! Great staff - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I was massively impressed at their collection and some of the most famous pieces of art in the world. The outside is also fantastic, by day or at night. You’ll love it!

This place is wild! We came for the shuttlecocks and stayed for the mini golf. Spent a little over 90 minutes here and didn't even step foot in the building, had way too much fun in the sculpture garden. Currently have an instillation where you can mini golf your way through the iconic pieces of the sculpture garden, I think we had more fun as three grown adults than the group of kids next to us. Great way to spend an afternoon and spark discussion about the necessary levels of stuffiness surrounding art.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum is one of the best in the country. The original (c1933) beaux-arts building itself is quite impressive-a massive structure with a reflecting pool on one side and huge terraced lawn on the other and a remarkably huge brown marbled column entry lobby . The Chinese art collection is unsurpassed outside of China and the impressionist collection is extensive and wonderful. Most every region and artistic period are well represented in the collection. The museum is free, but non-members will need to get free online entry time tickets. There is even an on-sight putt-putt golf course. Highly recommended!

What a rich museum full of art spanning the globe and thousands of years. It's hard to describe just how many treasures you will see, but you get back what you put in. You could spend weeks reading and observing everything, or you can speed run it and be out in an hour or two and feel like you've seen a lot of the world. If I had my druthers, I would probably spend several hours per section over the course of several days if I could, but most people will never have that kind of Time unless they are locals.

I never really understood why I had to attend so many of the various activities at the Nelson Atkins when I was younger and then I relocated to another part of the country until recently and I realize now that the Nelson Atkins wasn’t the “chore” that I groaned over as a child. It was a wonderful opportunity to see and experience and learn about something that would influence the way I appreciate the beauty of life as an adult. I’m proud to say that I live in Kansas City and the Nelson Atkins is a well recognized icon

Coming fresh off a hard-fought Hogwarts Legacy victory for the Nintendo Switch, we took in the real magic of Kansas City's premiere art museum. Grab a latte, and drink it fast, because you're not allowed to bring it into the museum, but grab a latte none-the-less and enjoy a day at the museum. Revel in the Caravaggio. Soak in Sebastian Pether's painting of ̶M̶t̶.̶ ̶V̶e̶s̶u̶v̶i̶u̶s̶ Mt. Doom. Take a peek at In Mirror of Self by Socorro Rico.

I am always impressed with the extent and variety of art and artifacts they have collected. To add to your experience download the Smartify app and bring headphones and you can learn even more, it is like a private tour! If you forget or can't, they have iPods and head phones they loan you for FREE a the information desk! This is seriously a MUST do in KC!!!

Having lived in Kansas City Missouri for 3 years while in school my wife and I always loved going to The Nelson-Atkins Museum. We make an effort to visit every time we go back to KCMO. Absolutely world-class with amazing pieces ranging from ancient Egypt through the Renaissance and up to a seperate modern art building. And perhaps even more amazing is the exhibit on Chinese history. One of the top two exhibits in the country. Period. The grounds are amazing. The building is amazing. If you are in Kansas City, it is a must see. All this, and admission is donations only, leaving no one out.

My wife and I LOVE this place. You don’t have to be an artist to appreciate the beauty that is in this museum. For the most part this is free but you will have to pay for parking if you use their parking garage. You are able to park elsewhere and walk to the museum but it may be difficult to find. The street parking tends to be constantly full (but we have gotten lucky many of the times we go). There is also a donation box at the front and it is suggested you give a dollar or two before entering to keep the place going. Be sure and give yourself plenty of time before the place closes down. There is so much to see and from our experience, 1 hour isn’t enough! For those who are out-of-towners and from places where you are not required to wear masks (just a fair warning) masks are required to enter. They will provide a mask at the front if you don’t have one but they would prefer you bring your own (and you will wish you did once you try on of theirs). Just a little FYI to those from small towns who aren’t used to the restrictions. But hey, who knows, maybe by the time you read this COVID will be a thing of the past! 🤞

The museum is spectacular!!! There is no cost to get into the museum, we just had to pay $5.00 for parking. There is so much to see and learn about that a one day visit may not be enough. Life-like and touchable displays bring the- eager to learn-out in all of us. I will definitely go back for several more visits.

Too liberal of a place. No African costumes lately.

The value proposition of this place as well as how extensive it is makes this totally worth it. The good: absolutely amazing breadth of pieces here. The museum architecture itself is quite impressive. It's free!! The meh: bags cannot be worn on your back. They do have a coat / bag check though. The bad: very few free parking spaces, paid parking runs about $12.

Where else could you visit a museum and see Monet, Picasso all for free! This is a go to place to spend some time visiting beautiful paintings, sculpture and other artwork. I doubt you could do this all in one day, locals - check it out in multiple visits. Visitors to the city, plan ahead as to what you want to see and it can be overwhelming with the size of this place. Staff are helpful in getting you are the exhibits!

This is my favorite place in all of Kansas City for so many reasons. It is stunningly beautiful architecture, top notch art, wonderful art education, beautiful event space, amazing food and atmosphere in Roselle Ct, gorgeous open grounds and outdoor art! It's closed inside during the pandemic, but that didn't stop us from having a family birthday picnic on the grounds a few weekends ago. Simply perfect.

This museum was beautifully curated. Great exhibits, surprising collections. Particularly loved the temporary gallery by local artists. And it is FREE?!!! Amazing. A must when in KC.

This Exhibit is not to be missed if you live in Kansas City Mo and surrounding areas. Local African American Artists and so much more. Definitely a beautiful day with family, Students or Solo Dolo like me. I enjoyed it immensely.

Recently visited the Nelson-Atkins last fall during my trip to KC and enjoyed coming here. They have a wide variety of impressive art pieces dating back to ancient times, as well as more modern and contemporary works. They also have a coffee shop and space available for hosting events. Definitely a great place for all ages to explore.

Great collection. Great museum. We particularly liked that the rooms were “styled” in the same theme of the pieces. It felt like traveling to different places and times. The garden is also very beautiful.

An amazing place to bring yourself, a date, or the whole family. Vegan friendly options at the restaurant. Beautiful art. Beautiful architecture. Even my 7 year old had a good time. Can't wait to come back. Even put some upcoming exhibits into my calendar.
