A reasonable hostel with a reasonable price. I will say "All is well". It is situated in Thamel. All the staffs are good. Especially I will talk about a staff named Vijay Adhikari. He is a good guy with gentle soul. He especially took care of me like friend. I will suggest must go. I am sharing Vijay Adhikari fotos.

We stayed in the private room with AC. So the review is only for the private room and not the dorms. Even though the location has good accessibility and the staff were helpful, the room is not at all worth the price. The room is extremely small with barely any walking space with all the luggage. It wasn't cleaned properly too as the sheets had spots and the table was layered in dust. The main issue was with the bathroom. It was extremely dirty and the water had a horrible smell, like that of a rotten egg. Every time we flushed, the bathroom would be full of that smell. We couldn't take a shower, wash our face or even brush using that water. We used bottled water instead. Every fixture was covered in muck. They didn't even change the toilet roll. It was a wet one. There was privacy issue too as the bathroom door had a window like outlet that one can easily look through. There was also no hot water even though they claimed there would be. They asked us to run the hot water outlet for sometime, but eventually the water ran out with no sign of hot water. The hostel seriously needs to work on these issues.

Lost INR 4957 because of fraud booking by Yatra app. Even after 7 days of daily complaint, Yatra did not refund the money. This hotel was definitely not a 2-star hotel. There was black mold all over the bathroom. Disappointing experience with the hotel and specially Yatra.

This is a cool little budget hotel in a corner of Thamel. It is very close to Asan Market. About 500 meters. Also very close to all the restaurants, cafes, mini super markets etc... Quite far (about 7 KMs) to the airport though.... The staff member Bijay helped me with lot of things in Thamel. He was a cool guy. I am giving it a 4 star rating because it lacks an elevator, even though it has 6 floors and a rooftop restaurant.

It is very cold during winters and not enough comforters/blankets are provided. Linens were not fitted well to the bed. Staff are mostly unresponsive over phone calls since they are not at reception most of the time. Hot water is just warm and you need to keep tap running several minutes (like 15-20 mins) to get the warm water. The free breakfast is not even worth it since it is just 2 pcs of sandwich bread, jam and cold tea. Both days we got cold tea. Not much amenities in bathroom just one small soap bar for four of us. Location is great would recommend to choose some place else with better service and not freezing rooms

Okay hostel. Negatives hard bed, lack of hot water, have to wake staff to leave in the mornings and warm beer. Positives excellent location, safe, friendly staff and roof top bar.

I have traveled to many places and compared the hostel services.I found 8848 hostel is the best among all.It is at centre location.Staffs are very friendly.It’s so clean.You will definitely get value of your payment. Highly recommended.

Very nice hostel. The reception boy was very nice. But you have to climb to the top floor for the hostel. But it was near to the ratna park bus stop rather than other hostel in thamel area of kathmandu.

We stayed at 8848 on our return to Kathmandu after travelling through Nepal. The staff were friendly, the free breakfast was fine (toast, egg, fruit and coffee) and the food and drink in the restaurant was well priced. It was nice to see the manager giving his stay training in the kitchen on how to serve food, cook food and make cocktails. When my girlfriend was ill and stuck in bed with a fever for a couple of days, the staff checked on her several times a day to make sure she was ok - great of them! 8848 is a clean and well maintained hostel - lockable box under bed, lockable cabinet next to bed and power points + lamp next to bed. Would stay here again. No lift and it's a 6/7 storey building...

Excellent hostel/ hotel. Staff are friendly. Food from restaurant (including breakfast) was good. They also arrange tours for you - but are never 'pushy' with their packages and let you decide what you want, which I appreciate. One of the dorm rooms is on the first floor (with the reception). I'd recommend not staying in this room.

Bad service...staff is not cooperative... don't know to behave ...and charge unfairly for having food in room while food is not frrom their restaurant..not so professional

This is the most conveniently located hotel in Kathmandu. Everything looks quite new. The rooms are comfortably-sized, the beds are comfortable, and hot water never runs out in the shower, no matter how many people use it. The other hotels ask the same price but don't offer the same comfort. The chef is very good, the food is priced reasonably (the most expensive dish is $3), there is a fancy espresso machine in the lobby café, and it's next-door to a juice/fruit stall. The street where trekking clothes are sold is nearby. If anyone's going to Kathmandu, I would recommend them to stay at 8848 Hotel. Tell the staff that Sean referred you! They are also doing tours as Top of the World Adventure, which is the only travel or hotel company with an office located inside the airport, and the other office of Top of the World Adventure is right on the 2nd floor of 8848 Hotel!

Nice hostel in Thamel. 8848 hostel is located at the Centre thamel.It is very clean with reasonable rate. Very warm hospitality.Beautiful open terrace.Nice food with nice cafe.They also serve travel and tour for the travelers. Highly recommended.

Excellent, clean, very friendly staff. One of them got up from his sleep at 5 am to get me a taxi! Breakfast is sufficient with an egg- the way you like, coffee/tea, apple slices, and toasts. Certainly well worth the tariff. Location is good - around 10 mins walk from the main street. There are shops everywhere selling everything you want. Shared toilet is bit small otherwise everything great!

Warm water not hot. Good breakfast. Wifi is ok but does not work great in the dorm. Curtains are see through so why have curtains ??? The place is cold in Winter.

My family and I loved it. We ended up extending our stay and made sure to book them again when we came back to Kathmandu. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. We did prefer the rooms at the front of the hostel as they had windows that opened to the street and provided good sunlight and air circulation. The food in their restaurant was good. The travel agency on the main floor (Top of the World Adventure) was excellent as well.
