The
Sonnetta
Residency
,
a
Homestay
in
FortKochi,
is
an
articulated
structure
with
Portuguese
and
local
architecture
styles.
The
two
storey
Portuguese
building
that
was
built
500
years
ago,
had
only
two
or
three
halls
under
a
roof
on
walls
that
with
42
inches
thickness.
Windows:
smaller
than
the
normal
size.
It
made
the
halls
inside
dark.
Briefly,
the
style
of
structure
signifies
a
barrack
during
Portuguese
and
Dutch
periods.
Nevertheless,
the
mystery
of
its
history
still
exists
an
unexplored.
A
Jewish
family
had
stayed
in
its
upstair.
On
the
ground
floor,
a
ration
shop
had
functioned.
That
is
the
bottom
lines
of
it's
history.
12
years
ago,
when
Mr.
Xavier,
the
owner
of
Sonnetta,
acquired
the
structure,
it
was
,
really,
in
a
ruining
condition.
The
Alfa
of
antiquity's
omega.
Mr.
Xavier
acquired
the
property
and
spent
huge
amount
to
strengthen
it
with
the
consent
and
guidelines
of
Archeological
Survey
Of
India.
It
helped
to
protect
the
building
from
collapsing.
Now
it
has
5
bedroom
with
new
windows
and
doors.
The
olden
Portuguese
barrack
has
become
a
nice
Homestay.
But,
the
corridors
that
leads
to
the
new
rooms,
make
a
nice
feeling
of
centuries
old
mystery.
The
rooms
are
clean.
They
provide
all
kind
facilities
including
Wi-Fi,
net
services,
safety
locker
system,
laundry
services
and
doctor
on
call.
Rent
reasonable
with
complimentary
breakfast.
