Packhorse Shopping Centre

Shopping center

👍 I previously gave this shopping centre a 2 but have upped to a 4. Unlike many other small shopping centres this one is on the up. New shops, a bright clean look. Still a 4 and could drop if security don't stop idiots riding through on electric scooters. People often mention shops, shopping, shop, nice, empty, centre, good, shame, days, people,

The Centre has come alive since stores from the Queen's Gate Market have moved in. Although, one shop and their staff really need a course on Customer Service...some of their staff are underhandedly "choosy" about which customer they want to serve! Trying to get help from them is like "pulling teeth". I often wonder if they really like selling things or even their customers! Saying that one store will bend over backwards to ensure you have the right screws and nuts for the right job. Merrie England Café's are always a joy to visit. The food and the service are always exemplary.

Lovely place with a variety of stores. You can find a button store, thrift and charity store, kitchen shop, hair & nails, bakes and pastries store, alternative fashion place and more here.

Very quiet today even with through traffic. Quite a few shops empty but those that are are good quality with plenty to show. Season decorations not as glam as in the past what they lack in quantity they make up for in size.

This is such a let down from the late 80s and 90s when it was packed with great shops to now. The only thing from the old days was to see merry England is still there. It's sad to see it like this especially when you remember it from the good old days.

Since the people volume has diminished, over the years, it has lost its atmosphere. Some shops are refitting, but overall- depressing.

Still nice to walk through but loosing it's appeal to shoppers fast, need some better shops in there to temp people in

I go here for coffee shop break.... gd variety of shops ,including cobbler. But some empty shops as new people to come in when market closes so will get better. Gd security standards as we were ushered out one day for a breach (in security. ).

It is a long time since I have visited Huddersfield so I took the chance to visit the Pack Horse Centre. It is a lovely space with some really nice shops (unfortunately they were not all open on a rainy Tuesday afternoon). I got some great bargains from the Phone Case Stall, a shop that sold everything from Chinese bowls/plates etc to Incense Burners and ornaments and a clothes shop with the shop owner giving me a discount on a lovely blouse. It would be nice to see to see a few more shops open Last time I was there Argos was at the far end.

Over half the shops are closed the rest of the place is showing its age. We only really use as a short cut or for the travel money shop

It's a shame to see what Huddersfield use to be,, most of the shops are gone, no atmosphere people looked down,, what a shame pack horse use to be thriving,, we need more shops

Looks positively apocalyptic inside these days. Whilst some of this is certainly down to Covid, it really needs a proper revitalise.

The mall has several businesses from banking to gifs shops and also grocery shops. I usually patronize the Prinz grocery shop which is an African shop where you can get your African food stuffs at affordable prices while enjoying a warm customer service.

It's only a matter of time, Huddersfield Centre is on the edge of collapse. Having said that, you can get a pretty tasty Thai meal up the stairs of the Packhorse (lift still isn't working). Who knows what the situation will be in the future.

Such a shame that it looked liked it did, full of empty shops and smelling of weed. Hadn't been for 10yrs and won't be returning again. All shopping areas are suffering from the internet shoppers but Huddersfield looked far worse than most do.

To be accurate we have to look at where the Packhorse was at a few years ago. From that point where it was largely empty and lifeless it has been steadily improving in terms of shops, footfall and overall appeal. Since being bought there's many positives to take, for instance the variety on offer, the upstairs food offer, the lift being installed, there's more to come and I can only say well done so far, it's a work in progress.

had a quick sit down on the stairs since i felt quite weak and as if i was going to pass out due to my health issues (they have removed the benches in packhorse centre so i was left with no choice to sit on the stairs) and a rude security guard came and shouted at me and my husband who was supporting me through this medical episode and began yelling at us and going on his walkie talkie that he needed back up for a “situation”. there was no situation and we did nothing wrong beside sit down for a short moment to regain my momentum and health. absolutely disgraceful that we could be treated the way we just did, no business in packhorse will ever get my money again.

Pam's Café located in the pack horse across from timpson the best place for a coffee and a fruit or herbal tea, also the choc orange cake was excellent super soft song, icing not sweet or sickly but delicious 🎂😍👍💖 Staff are very helpful, pleasant definitely recommended.

Moving a few of the old market stalls into shop units in the pack horse has improved the footfall - these are the people that you go into town specifically to see.

While it holds a couple gems, it's run down, looks damn near abandoned, and has no life to it at all. The stores are mostly sketchy looking at best and seem to be a mishmash with no sense of order. Worth a look but nothing more. +1 star for being a quicker route to MC Noodle King

  • 2/5 Matt C. 10 months ago on Google
So quiet and shops just shutting down after only being opened a few months. Must be the overheads and rent to set up in there.

It's ok, some nice shops starting to open. Good watch repair, food and hobby shops. But might be a few years before most units are full.

Always clean, not much variety these days, I think its hey day is long past, it needs an injection of vibrant, fresh, new shops. Nothing really going on in there at present, the few shops that are in there don't really offer anything unique. Such a shame, these days I see it used mainly as a thoroughfare or shelter from inclement weather.

😐 The park itself is still great. However Kirkless Council have made it almost impossible to get in and out with the roadworks, it took nearly 25 minutes as they have a diversion in place on a small road that let's about 4 cars out on the traffic signals! This was midweek. Next time I'd park elsewhere...

🫤 Attended a gig where my son was in a band. Nothing much to report gig was in an empty shop in the centre. I understand that the whole area is to be redeveloped shortly.
