Portland Manor is just outside of the City of Knysna. Please, if you don't know where this place is, don't go at night, it is very dark and it's a long way to get to Portland from the main road. So check in the morning or the afternoon. This place is beautiful and big. The rooms are huge and comfortable. I had great view from my room and also had a nice shower. The breakfast was great. The lady and her daughter are very friendly and helpful people. They have nice greenery. This place is great for planning meetings, a break away to write a book and just to isolate yourself from the world. It has this quietness.

Amazingly beautiful setting and service. The cowshed restaurant is unique with exceptional food and definitely worth a visit. Booking a spot is essential as they only open weekends and are busy.

Lots of potential they just need to focus on detail such as heating in restaurant. Fireplace only able to reach tables near it. Maybe a gas heater would help.

As I'm told by the staff, historically rich location. This is ground zero for Lord Barrington, who ruled over the garden route, building this beautiful manor, twinned to his European home, built by his Italian slaves... I don't know how true it all is, or how accurately I've perceived the story, but it's a really great place to drink and have an exceptional meal. Highly recommended with a strong European feel.

Absolutely magical place! The whole Estate is just breathtaking, from when you drive in, to the Manor House, scenery, the rooms, and just the entire historic feel of the property! I feel like I travelled back in time - it’s truly a breath of fresh air. Staff are friendly, warm and welcoming, always checking in to see what they can do for you, this goes for the hotel and the restaurant - everyone is on top of it. Speaking of food, the food at the Cowshed is out of this world, prepared with a true love and passion for the craft - and it shows. We had the opportunity to do a tour and dine in the Manor House, and I’d recommend that to anyone if you can. Definitely a must visit destination in Knysna!

Portland Manor is a hidden gem in the knysna forest region of Rheenendal just before Knysna, it's location allows to take a step back in time, with its unique country charm and Victorian style accommodation. It's so rich in history and a perfect place to relax and unwind, or for the adventure seeker, there are canoes, fishing, beautiful hiking trails, and bike routes to explore. The Restaurant Cowshed serves good, wholesome, delicious food, especially the pizzas.

Fantastic country escape. Lots to do on site. Fascinating history, friendly, helpful staff. Great food in the restaurant, the Cowshed, and craft beer in the quaint pub. Loved it!

One of the best experiences I've had so far. The service we received was so refreshing. The staff were so friendly, helpful and super accommodating. They really went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The food was amazing and the location is really beautiful. We also never got bored. There's swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking and even a pool table. This has become my top choice for accommodation in Knysna.

Dinner at the restaurant was very disappointing, staff not trained at all. Had to ask for everything. Wine was not opened, starters came with mains on cold plates.

We had a great weekend at Portland Manor hotel. The hotel has renovated their rooms and the grounds were looking beautiful. Debbie is a fantastic host and goes out of her way to help. We organised a supper in their quaint quirky pub for 35 people. Meal was good value. It is a safe spacious area for kids and the suite rooms are big . We were water skiing so it was very convenient as the lake is on the doorstep. Yes it old buts clean and feels olde worlde in a good way . enjoyable stay.

Blast from the past. We drove past Portland Manor in December 2017 and remembered we were last there in 1998 not long before we got married. The place is now bigger, has more facilities and under new ownership. The lunch we had was excellent. We will be back for another stay

Portland Manor is truly stunning. The buildings are beautiful both inside and out, with gorgeous original features brought to life by the wonderful owners. The grounds are equally fantastic; there is a lake, wonderful wooded areas and the whole place is so peaceful. On top of this, the owners and staff are incredibly lovely and welcoming, honestly the best kind of people you can meet. The food is delicious, you can tell it is made with love. One of my absolute favourite places to stay, would definitely recommend; you won't be disappointed.

One of the most glorious places in the Garden Route, fantastic gardens and grounds, huge Dam, beautiful walks, peacocks Zebras and even an Ostrich! They do fantastic weddings here too with authentic historic accommodations 😊
