Side old town is full of ancient ruins so beautifully preserved. Lots of shops and cafes too. We visited at night and in morning (I preferred the quite morning where I could hear the sea and the birds). Beautiful mosque right in middle of it all. Needed a ticket for amphitheatre but everything else can be seen as you walk around.

A fantastic place to visit and wonder round lots of photo opportunities. Shops and gifts shops a plenty on main strip down to harbour area, boat trips from harbour tour and private ones . There's a museum on the right as you walk to side old town area from the bus station recommend the walk not to difficult. Stopped a couple of times at Ruby's side for a drink near to swing price's are in lira and had a nice relaxing beer . Overall a great place to visit plus easy to get to by the bus service in the area.

the best and most beautiful part of Side are the old ruins which are everywhere you look. We also recommend to visit the museum, where you can see the Turkish Coliseum. So so beautiful the whole city :)

Phenomenal things that you should definitely visit. We came to Antik without an agency (you sit in a small Bus that goes along the main road towards the center of Side for 1 €) and then from the bus parking lot for 0.24 € to the old part of town. There is no need to give € 20-30 to agencies. Along the old town you have a huge number of shops, restaurants and cafes, something for everyone!

🔘The Roman theater in Side🔘 ⚫Located in Side a city on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. ⚫Side was founded by Greek settlers in western Anatolia , this most likely occurred in the 7th century BC , Its main deity was Athena. ⚫The theater is the greatest preserved historical building in the city. ⚫It was built in the middle of the 2nd century AD, on the site of an earlier Hellenistic theater. It has a seating capability of 15,000–20,000 people. ⚫The outer façade of the theater was once two-storied, but only its lower part is still intact. ⚫The skene building (a structure at the back of a stage), was 63 meters (206 feet) long, had 3 stories that formed an ornamental façade, decorated with columns, niches, statues and reliefs. ⚫There were nine interconnected rooms on the lowest level of skene. 🐆In the late Roman Empire times, gladiatorial combats and shows with wild animals became more popular, so the theater was modified a thick wall separating the audience from the orchestra, was added.

I have been there recently and I was totally satisfied about visiting it, it’s like to be in ancient times somewhere in Greece, among temples and buildings of those times. To feel that atmosphere and touch culture. I think you won’t be disappointed about it and everyone should visit it at least once in your life. Thanks for reading my review. P. S. See photos down there 👇☺️👇

An ancient port city, it's known for long beaches and Greco-Roman ruins. In the center are the remains of the 2nd-century Antique Theater, which seated up to 15,000. The white marble columns of the Hellenistic Temple of Athena stand near the harbor. Other sites are sprinkled throughout, with finds housed at the Side Museum, a restored Roman bath complex.

Nice town to visit. Similar to Pompey. But for free. Won't take u much to walk around, so plan your visit on morning or evenings, because otherwise you gonna blow. Very hot on a sunny day.

(Translated by Google) You don't need to breathe in the mystical air and go back thousands of years, you will live when you get there today. Some shopkeepers disguised as the only ones polluting this place. Inside, very beautiful places, right next to the disease of our age, shops. In fact, such a texture is put into its mystical atmosphere. I wonder if the bazaar of thousands of years has been degenerated like that in the past, just like time is the rasp of everything. But despite everything, it is a very very beautiful place and life. It is a time to live. Never and never say I'm a traveler without seeing this place ...

The city is very beautiful and all the old ruins are free to see. Many cozy restaurants with fair prices and beautiful views over the sea or of the fantastic flowers they are crawling up along the old houses everywhere.

It is kept very clean and everything can be explored on foot. In high heat there is the possibility of going up and down with a locomotive for very little money, which is great! Especially for older or disabled people. What really annoyed me is the large number of salespeople. But the cafes and the food as well as dessert or refreshment make everything up for it. In the high season you have to consider that it is very, very busy.

founded/Create by Greek settler 700BC and then 67BC brought under control by the Romans tells an amazing story / part of history reflected in such a small place. Definitely a must when you are visiting turkey. Mind all sellers - they cheat you with my rates Lira/EUR and the good prices. Very impressive to see what kind of buildings already have been produced two thousand years ago.

Such a small town but so much to see, so much history and ruins. Old town is renovated fully with like a million little shops, places to sit for a drink or food, everything is so clean and shining. Old town is built over ancient town, so there are places where you walk over glass floor so that you can see the findings of ancient ruins below which is such a good idea to display them like that. There os a hill above the center with more ancient ruins and some from the Byzantine period.

Very interesting and large historical site. A good place to visit, by walking through the area and have a rest close to the harbor or Apollon temple for a cay or coffee. Beware of some self named guides they tell you they will show you some special places. They just try to take you off the tracks and push you and to give money to them. I would not recommend to go there during lunch time. Overall a place to visit.

Although now heavily commercialised, the city is wonderful! It’s got lots of ancient ruins on show and they are constantly digging for more! They have put glass floors in certain points so you can view the remains through them whilst visiting.

A beautiful modern town created in the place of an ancient city. If you can add a couple of extra days in your Turkey itinerary, please spend that time here in this small but picturesque town full of energy as well as calmness. You can book a hotel and stay in the hotels inside, roam around, shop, do water sports, sun bathe, relax on the beaches, swim in the sea, have great food and wine in the restaurants.

The well-preserved ruins, including the impressive Temple of Apollo, the grand theater, and the ancient agora, are a testament to Side’s importance in antiquity. Exploring these ruins provides a unique opportunity to connect with the past and appreciate the architectural marvels of this ancient city. The location right by the sparkling Mediterranean Sea adds to the charm. The sight of the sea and the ancient ruins harmoniously coexisting is a sight to behold, making it a picturesque spot for photos.

In addition to the numerous Greek cities that have a rich history, I must say that Side is equally remarkable. From the moment you enter the old town, you'll be captivated by its ancient beauty. I'd also like to commend the city's efficient transportation arrangements.

A great place to visit. Take the land train into the town from the entrance and back up for just 50c or equivalent in Lira. Plenty of shops, bars and cafés Great historical place to visit and see. Very flat so also great for the elderly if there are any 👍 I would advise allowing 4-5 hours to see and do everything.

It is a captivating destination that not only showcases ancient history but also pays homage to its feline inhabitants. As you stroll through the narrow streets and explore the historical ruins, you'll often come across adorable cats lounging in the sun or gracefully roaming around. These friendly and well-cared-for cats add a unique charm to the town, capturing the hearts of visitors, especially animal lovers. The locals' respect and affection for these feline companions are evident, as they ensure their well-being. For cat enthusiasts, Side Old Town provides an enchanting experience where history and adorable cats coexist.. As you wander through the bustling streets, you'll discover delightful shops, cozy cafes, and vibrant restaurants serving up delicious cuisine. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, making it a joy to explore. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or simply seeking a picturesque setting, Side Old Town offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you enchanted.

Beautiful historical setting. Can walk round and get up close. Very cheap entry to go inside the theatre for a better view. Information all around so you can really imagine what was there in its prime. Plus shops and bars on the doorstep so makes for a great day out.

Amazing and undersold. Incredible and extensive ruins, many more than I expected based on the tourist guides. Not as big as Ephesus but still really nice and highly recommend. Wish we had more time to explore. More shade than other ancient sites, which was a relief in the August heat. Cute remodeled town and harbor, but very touristy and expensive. A good day trip!

We visited there yesterday, completely by accident, as we were looking for a car park and thought to visit the beach! Parking was free, so we took a walk and got on the small tram running from the car park for 4 lira. We passed by extensive ruins and some of them were still under excavation. The other end of the tram leads into a shopping area, which is packed with tourists and restaurants, but throughout there are sections of glass pavements, covering even more ruins which lead right down to the harbour. A facsinating place to look around, there was obviously a large town on this site in ancient times. An unexpected delight.

  • 4/5 Safia J. 1 year ago on Google
Really nice area, very touristy. It is worth coming here at sunset when it is a bit cooler. Be prepared to have restaurateurs hassle you to eat at their establishment. Kids had a good day. It was calm and relaxing. Nice as a slow paced day.

A very beautiful place that borders the sea, and there are shops for a wide variety of goods - from clothes to souvenirs and traditional goods. if you have time for the beach, be sure to visit the small beach - it is characterized by very fine sand, very clean water without the excitement of the sea.

Side Ancient City - A Hidden Gem Amidst the Buzz Side Ancient City is a true gem that manages to capture the essence of history while avoiding overwhelming crowds. Despite its popularity, the site never felt overly crowded, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. It's worth noting that the general pricing at Side Ancient City can be quite high. To make the most of your visit, it may be wise to grab a meal before arriving at the site. However, fret not, as there are excellent restaurants nearby that offer pick-up services, ensuring you won't go hungry during your exploration. With its captivating ambiance and convenient dining options, Side Ancient City promises an enchanting experience that seamlessly blends history and culinary delights.

It is a nice old ruin but unfortunately after you've read the brief history posters and looked at the view there isn't much to do. They didn't have an app or listening devices that give you anything "extra". Nothing that delves deeper into the building's history or of its structure or fun facts. If you pay extra there is a museum little across the street that once combined with this attraction will give you a better picture but it's not particularly cheap to pay for both, your mileage may vary.

  • 5/5 S S. 11 months ago on Google
Impressive remains of the old roman city. Currently there's lots of preservation activities ongoing. A walk to the lesser crowded parts of the ruins is definitely recommended. Signs, if readable explain most of the larger buildings. The old city wall in the east gives you an overview over the whole area.

  • 3/5 Nihar M. 11 months ago on Google
Nothing much to see. Some old ruined structures, with a massive place filled with Restaurants and other shops. The tickets for tourist(non-Turkish) is a rip off. All in all, more of a cafe /Resturant & shop Area to visit than ancient findings.

Phenomenal peninsula full of ancient ruins 🤘🤠🏛️ This ancient city is chock full of amphitheaters, statues, pillars, arches, and even a few street pups 🐶💜🐾 Honestly one of the craziest things about this place is they are currently doing archaeological excavations right here on the seaside. People have lived here for thousands of years and even still today we are learning new things about their culture and society as we speak 🤯 Even though there's no one here because of the zombie apocalypse you can tell in the summer time when there's no lockdowns this place would be a happening area with a lot of energy and good vibes. I love all the restaurants and bars built into the ruins 👌👌👌
