A wonderful place in Montmartre where you can meet artists who will draw your profile. This historic site is the heart of Montmartre, along with the Sacré Coeur. There are many restaurants, cafés and boutiques. Perfect for tourists, it's always crowded. In winter, you can enjoy a glass of mulled wine while strolling through the narrow streets of Montmartre.

This is a very colourful square, full of artists’ stalls eager to sketch/paint your portrait, or sell you a painting. From observation beware the touts walking around trying to convince you to have your portrait done, if its something you want, go to the square, and find an artist you like. If you want a portrait painting then this is a good place to get on. It's a square surrounded by restaurants where artists sit and you can have a portrait painted. There were ones that were even painting a portrait from photos that visitors had wanted.

The square is famous for portrait artists and painters, who exhibit and paint their works outdoors. It is one of the most emblematic places in Montmartre. It is a reminder of the bohemian Paris of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, where Montmartre was the birthplace of Impressionism. The Place was opened to the public in 1635 as the central square of the town of Montmartre.

This place was really great! A small little Street of artists. This place in more active in the afternoon like after 2pm or so. You can also get a portrait or drawing done by one of the artists in the street. The price varies artist to artist. Prices range from €30 per person to €60 per person.

Place du Tertre is a nice small place at hill behind Montmartre church. The place ia full of vibrant atmosphere with gift shops, creperie, bars and restaurants. There are painters making your sketches. You can see Paris city from here. There are cars going around in this small place which is bit cautious.

After visiting Sacre-Coeur we walked this little town. It is very scenic and looks like what you would imagine old Paris looked like. This square was pretty cool. There are a ton of artists that are selling their wares. Quite a few are doing portraits and other things. Dropped a star just because you do get hassled a little by artist that are doing drawings. We stopped and had a little bite and drink at Cafe Brasserie. While sitting there we were asked about 5 or 6 times about getting something made for us. When asked about price, I couldn't tell if he was kidding or not, but told me $200, we politely declined. We walked all around and checked out the other artist just making whatever they do. While sitting at the Cafe there was a wedding photo shoot in front of us, hopefully they photo shopped us out. Now this area is packed! So be prepared to be bumping into people, but well worth the adventure!

It was heartbreaking seriously to see that it was so empty during this difficult time. I pray for the artists to stay strong and hold on until everything gets back to normal once again.

Place du Tertre in Paris is a great place to stroll through! This is a very charming area. Lots of quaint shops and unique restaurants lining the street. All the lights and music playing made for a wonderful night. We didn't see any of the artists out in the evening, unfortunately. I hope to return in the summer to see this plaza come alive during the day!

I really recommend to go here. There are many many artists who paint portraits or sceneries, and you can either let yourself be painted, or enjoy seeing the many other people get painted. There’s a very cozy vibe, with lots of restaurants and artists, which with most of them you can really see they enjoy what they’re doing. Furthermore there’s the moulin rouge, some basilisks, and a very nice view of the city downtown.

A unique area to explore and watch different artists showcase their talents. If you are interested in getting yourself drawn, make sure you take the time to choose your drawer according to your style. Depending on how detailed your drawing is, it can take up to 30mins to sit.

The highlight of my visit. The history and architecture of Paris is amazing but Place du Tertre allows you to experience Paris as many have done before, with the resident artists. I spent time wondering across cobbled stones, watching them work and chatting to those not busy. They come from near and far and each adds to the spirit of captured memories. Lots of brasseries to choose from and Montmartre and Dali museums right there. And a few steps away is Sacre Coetre, a basilica overlooking Paris. Well worth the visit, especially if you appreciate art.

(Translated by Google) In the heart of the ancient village of Montmartre, this old town square has retained the architectural charm of the two- or three-storey maisonettes dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Place du Tertre is located 130 m above sea level on the Montmartre hill, in the Clignancourt district of the 18th arrondissement of Paris. It is famous all over the world for its painters and its terraces, many artists erect their easels there every day for tourists. the easels for painters and portrait artists are shared 140 spaces, ie 1 m² for two artists working alternately. It is one of the most visited places in Paris. A must see. This is an amazing spot, my favourite in all of Paris. Artists gather showing off their work, painting in the background, and others offer caricatures and portraits which you can sit for. The art varies from truly extraordinary to the banal, meant for tourist purchase. Restaurants and cafes surround this historic square so you can take your time, enjoy the moment, and soak it all in.

Place du Tertre was the heart of the prestigious Benedictine Montmartre Abbey. With its many artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the Place du Tertre is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art.

A charming spot in Montmartre. The experience here depends greatly on what time of year you visit. I have visited in both November and April. In November, the square is mostly empty and quite. In April it is brimming with tourist and energy. I don't recommend trying to drive in the area during the tourist season because the pedestrians are so thick the cars cannot move. We enjoy visiting the square and looking at the artists working.

Classic tourist spot. Crowded when the sun comes out. Nonetheless a charming area behind the Sacred Heart cathedral. Plenty of surprisingly talented artists if you fancy having a caricature drawn of you. Restaurants and cafes all around, sometimes tricky to find a spot so reserve ahead of time if possible.

Not bad, the waiters and staff there are really sweet. I'm not a super fan of the food though ( depends cause I love food with more seasoning)... if not its still great, the location is reasonable and is close to a really beautiful view of the city of Paris

Nice outdoor dining. But to be honest, the food is tasteless. We constantly have to add salt and pepper on the food. We expected too high for the restaurant but it was a dissapointment. Our total food cost 62€.

don’t go on a summer Saturday afternoon..! it was shoulder to shoulder packed. you could barely even stop to look at the artists or really see the square. all the cafes seemed a bit too chaotic to enjoy. also just lots of touristy/souvenir shops all around that didn’t make it feel too ‘authentic’. you do get a nice view of Sacre Coeur around the corner, from the side.. vs the front which is just packed with people.

Was beautiful the art was absolutely stunning and there was a great atmosphere in the whole square. Would recommend going! The food is quite over prices at the restaurants in the area but what can you expect from such a big tourist attraction?

  • 5/5 Christopher W. 1 year ago on Google
This square is touristy on the weekend but there is a beauty in local artists walking their aisles up the hill to paint and sell their art. In the middle of the week I had wonderful conversations with people who came to the square where artists have come to paint for a long time, the same way that Picasso came to paint as one of the local artists. Well worth a visit. As an aside, crepes were not as good as elsewhere in the city or even Montmartre. Follow your visit up with a wander through nearby Basilica of Sacré Coeur and climb an uncomfortable number of stairs to see the entire city from it's summit.

Some amazing artist in the area. Didn't see any artwork from the street walking artists but the ones set up around the square sitting down had some great talent. Expect to pay around 50 euro for a black and white and 80 for a colour. There's a guy selling tunes as well to put your art work in so no stress there. The church on the top of the hill is amazing also, worth the visit.
