Les Gorges du Pont du Diable

A huge cave with a sad and beautiful legend. Definitely a place to see and visit.

There is a strip of parking along the main road for a lot of cars with trees for shade on a hot day. The ticketing is in the shop at the shop counter and they don't have a lot of English. The path to the gorge is back out the shop at the end of the building. It starts out easy as you enter the trees and pass the first notice board and a picnic table. When you reach the first steps you get a glimpse of how far down you need to walk to get to the entrance of the gorge walk. It is a long way down with many steps. There are seats to rest for those that need it. Eventually a hut is reached. More descriptions of what you will see including a video playing on loop. At the entrance a guide will check your tickets, give some background to the gorge and then direct you down the metal staircase. It is well constructed as mentioned and they are steep. The gorge below is visible through the steps, adding to the sense of depth of the gorge. There are many twists and turns too to thread a route through all the giant boulders that form the bridge. There is a glass viewpoint to stand on over the gorge. You are asked to put on slippers over your shoes to keep it clean. A photo opportunity. Soon you are underneath the bridge and able to marvel at the gorge, bridge and river. The exit of the river can be viewed before going back in and walking along the walkway above the river. Listen to the water through a horn and walk beyond the bridge itself around a corner and eventually up and out of the walkway. The gorge from here looks more like a cave with the bridge being the roof. A path takes you back to the start. Fairly flat. Now the big climb back up.
