The surrounding and environment is so rough and unkempt. The palace fence is extremely high and inaccessible to people living around. Zero power supply. Its terrible!! I feel bad for the residents around there

This palace is a place to visit for someone interested in history and a journey back to pure colonial era. It is a reminder of traditions, culture and traditional institutions. Loom beyond the minimal comfort that may exist and embrace its symbolic representation of celebration of life and human heritage. The current Oba of Lagos, His Highness Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has served in the position since May 2003.

I always imagine how well this compound can be improved, especially the outward appearance. It is not helped by its location right in the middle of an illegal medicines market. A pity!

The Oba of Lagos, also known as the Eleko of Eko, is the traditional ruler (Oba) of Lagos. Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos in 2006. The Oba is a ceremonial. Ado was the first king of Lagos; he was the son of Asipa who was appointed to govern the land by the Oba of Benin. He had successors through all three of his.

Oba of Lagos palace is a traditional stool formerly under the British authorities. It was founded by Oba of Benin after attempt to push back riverine people and fishermen from Egun tribe of Dahomey and Ijaw and patches of Yoruba to establish a link to the waters for export-import trade. Till today Yoruba remain royal to the Oba of Lagos unlike other tribes that are royal to their respective traditional stools. Oba of Lagos remain largely fascist and uses force to regain administrative control of Lagos lost during the British rule. Incidenly British governor handed over to the Igbo tribe at independence. That attamot to control Lagos both administratively and culturally often bread inter-tribal conflict between the yoruba and igbo during general elections in Nigeria leading to voter suppression intimidation and killings. Cultural events are often designed to intimidate non yoruba - though a few are landmark events in Lagos. Market levies and government subventions help to sustain the financial resources of the Native stool. Palace design is connunual not palacial.

This is meant to be the abode of the Oba of Lagos. (king of Lagos Island), it is a very busy area as the roads can barely fit two cars and also a commercial capital. The Oba's staff of power was stolen from his Palace not too long ago which makes one wonder who the new king is and where does he reside?

This is the ancestral home of the highly respected Oba of Lagos. The palace is located at the heart of Lagos island. All the roads leading to the palace is usually very busy in the morning and evening time given that the palace is located very close to the popular idumota market. The palace is not open to tourists so if you are considering paying a visit, it’s a no no.. Also note there is no parking around the palace area hence you may consider taking an Uber or a bolt ride to the area so you don’t bother where to park your car.
