This club has so much potential but sadly is let down by the minority that spoil the experience for others. I joined Bannatyne for use of the pool and spa facilities and I was very impressed by Kirkstall’s range of pools. They have a nice main pool with a decent length, a kids pool which is great because it means the main pool is mostly used by adults, and a spa pool with sauna, steam, and solarium. Sadly however many members using the spa pool do not make it a pleasant experience for women. When you are the only woman in a group of 25-30 men who are shouting, spitting, and openly leering at you it rather takes away from being able to relax. I have raised this with the team on site but sadly until there are women only hours introduced I can only give two stars as I don’t feel comfortable making use of facilities while members are spitting on the floors and shouting. Unfortunately placing signage next to the pool isn’t enough - these rules need to be enforced or there needs to be regular women-only times. Such a shame because this gym has such good potential and the spa area would be so lovely if it was properly looked after!

Cancelled my membership. This gym has really great equipment and the staff are all lovely but unfortunately this branch of Bannatyne attracts a bad crowd. Too many groups of rowdy, loud aggressive young lads that think they're gangsters. Especially in the spa. Last time I was in the steam room, they were having a wet paper towel fight and screaming at each other whilst people are there to try and relax after work. Same in the changing rooms. It's intimidating, not much that the gym staff can do about it; just far too many members with no manners or respect for other people.

Terrible customer service since Bannatyne took over from Virgin. On two occasions got our payments wrong. Both occasions we had to chase emails we sent in because they were ignored / missed. In the end I cancelled my subscription but this too was ignored / missed and led to them overcharging me. Wife and son have been using the gym and also state that the conditions have gone downhill since the take over. No life guard on duty in the pool and the place seems more focused on super-fit people rather than being accessible to everyone. Very disappointing as it was a great gym under Virgin.

As with other reviews there are a LOT of problems with this gym since Bannatynes has taken over. What I have found but not limited to; Very poor hygiene. Broken gym equipment Sauna cold Over crowded Over priced. DO NOT become a member here they will make it very difficult for you to leave when you will inevitably experience all the same problems other members have.

Gym staff good people and helpful. Management team are shocking and I think the staff have had enough of them too. Gym always dirty and smelly spa area always smelling like wee and when you complain to the bald general manger he claims to understand and then tells you you are wrong.

I visited here today for the first time with my 7 month old baby. It was not what I expected. I was told by a member of staff that the changing rooms were upstairs which makes no sense at all because the swimming pool is downstairs. I had to walk through the gym area with my baby to access the changing rooms. This felt wrong and it would be better if the changing rooms were down stairs next to the pool. The changing room upstairs was overcrowded and dirty so I asked a member of staff where the family changing room was and she said they don't have one but she showed me a disabled changing room back downstairs. I ended up in the disabled changing room downstairs it was very drak , gloomy and drab the paint was chipped on the walls. This disabled changing room was also not clean. We went in the children's swimming pool which felt very dated. There are windows separating the big pool and the children's pool and these looked like they had never been cleaned in their life I even started to wonder if bannatynes even have a cleaner. When it was time to go I couldn't wait to get out I got a shower but when I got home I felt like I needed another as I felt dirty. This Bannatynes gave me the ick. I feel like the best thing for it would to be knocked down and rebuilt again or at least get refurbished. It's been put in the wrong tier and it needs knocking at tier or 2. I felt like I was in a council run leisure centre but was being ripped of with the price aswell. I am now forced in to going to the Wakefield branch because its slightly better but their pool is freezing as they've been told to turn it down 2 degrees. I will tweet and email Duncan Bannatyne about it because he needs to sort it out.

A very busy gym with equipment often broken and the jacuzzi /sauna etc often breaks down. Not very clean either and members pester you to use the equipment then stand over you when waiting. We are moving elsewhere to another gym very soon .

Been using it for a few months now after joining with a friend and not too impressed with it…firstly I only use the gym area but pay nearly double than other gyms better equipped, you should offer a lower membership fee if you don’t access the pool or sauna area. There seems to be an out of order sign on a certain gym equipment each week and things never seem to get fixed, there’s some machines that have had a sign up from when I started nearly 2 months ago. The staff are nice and friendly!

Machines are old and constantly broken. Manager rather budget on revamping Pool. A breach of health and safety issues with members injuring themselves as a result of poor maintained equipment. Truly shocking and will be leaving, if things do not improve once contract is up. Pardon my French but it is a right sh1t show at the place. Looking at previous reviews regarding same issues the establishment obviously do not care. Absolute joke.

It's gone down hill so much! It's definitely not worth £65 per month. In the last few months there has been countless pieces of equipment not working. Sick of seeing the 'oops we're on it' poster on stuff. I understand stuff breaks but stuff that breaks all the time probably needs replacing. I don't often go in the spa area anymore, it's not a relaxing experience. It's overcrowded, dirty with sand and grit in the pool, plasters in the steam room. Posters up asking members not to shave and spit in there (who are these members?!!) Parts of the pool are usually blocked off too. I have brought it up with management but didn't really get anywhere. Such a shame as it used to be a lovely place to work out and relax. The two stars are because the cleaning and gym staff seem hardworking and pleasant.

Just been here for the first time with gympass. The reception staff were fantastic: welcoming, friendly and sorted access super fast. The changing rooms are open plan but with some private cubicles. The showers are private (doors)....just remember to take your towel down to the pool with you! There's a suit drying machine and the lockers use your access bracelet to lock and unlock. I will definitely be using this gym frequently.

Not as good as when it was Virgn gymn. It wasn't as clean steps down to pool covered in wet fluff dirt. Steam room was not working . Child's pool suddenly had a downpour coming from ceiling, could have possibly coming from mens or ladies shower rooms . It was a worry that ceiling may come down. At reception exit I mentioned it. Bit sad that I was taking guests to see the pool and gym too. It would also be good to not just rely on gym users sanitising equipment after use as if u watch most gym users don't do it . Could possibly employ a cleaner to go round if would feel safer. With respect . I dont think my guests will be joining now .:(

Friendly and helpful reception staff. Cleaners work hard also. Issue currently is its just so busy at night. The opening hours should be later i think, 9.30pm for the spa/pool area shutting is not good, another hour would make a big difference. Its now no longer a quiet place to go for a swim at night, which i assume is down to everyone trying to get in before 9.30pm. Not seen huge investment in the gym or pool areas since Bannatyne took over, rather disappointing when so many of us were excited for this brand to arrive.

Cold jaccuzi in December for the past two days (no mention of any repairs). Sauna falling apart…Gym floor & equipment dirty…Changing rooms smells like a dirty public toilet. Cleaning staff in changing rooms very rudely mannered-closed my locker while i was stood getting dressed banging the hoover around at a peak time also causing a trip hazard for me and others - when I mentioned to him i was told that I don’t appreciate what hes doing and got loud and intimidating. Rushed HIS JOB then was stood chatting away at the reception on my way out. Another cleaning staff splashed a bucket of water with detergents in it on me as i was in the next shower and i had finished showering and was drying myself. Can’t see this place lasting long as bannatyne!

Very disappointing to see the degrading of this gym since it switched from virgin to Bannatyne. Often very busy. Showers disgusting at times, rarely seem to be cleaned. On top of that, when trying to cancel they made things very difficult, and charged for more months than we initially agreed to after moving away - switching our membership without us being aware. Poor experience

We are leaving. Since Bannatyne took over things are running badly; poor cleanse in and around swimming pools, stupid rules like not able of being in the pool by myself with my 2 kids when I am always capable of look after them both wherever I go lol. Always short of staff, a lot of classes cancelled and poor customer service.

To our opinion Bannatyne its absolutely best gym/health club in UK. Here is network of 80 or 100? of Bannatyne clubs in UK (+ they bought another network of health clubs) - so must be in some city/town near you (easy driving distance). Great place for relax, for whole family. Jacuzzi/spa zone is fantastic and made with big love! Very warm water in the pool! (in another clubs guests/clients very often complain that water is not warm enough). Comparing with another clubs in Europe its outstandind and exelent! (we visit Bannatyne club in Leeds)

A lot of improvements needed at this gym. More up to date equipment and improved/ motivational classes. Management needs to take feedback onboard and act on things.

Poor cleanliness of the gym floor, complained several times about areas of gym that have build up of mud/filth but they clearly don’t care. Gym seems understaffed equipment if left out by members with no care and lack of cleaning...It seems they only clean the changing rooms. Members also working out in sliders and socks. Expected a lot more from a premium gym. I use other branches of Bannatyne and they are on a different level.

I have been coming in this gym for the past 2 months and there is always problem with toilets here. In 2 months toilets were working for 2 days and out of order for 58 days. Rubbish that. It is suppose to be one of the best gym in Leeds but m really disappointed 😞

I’ve been here over 20years now and you can’t fault it . It’s a very good gym with everything available , boxing , classes , spa , showers , swimming pool , weights area , running, rowing, etc and lots more . It’s very affordable for anyone to join … if anything the cleaning team need to keep it a bit more tidy other than that it’s 5 stars all the way 👍🏾 😊

Was wanting to join in dec/jan. Every time I came the gym was closed. Customer services seems non existent. I finally got there when gym was open, wanted a day pass before I joined to be told it’s £25 for 1 day… wow. No thanks, for a spa area that looks like it hasn’t had a refurb in donkeys and non existent customer service I’ll pass. Plenty other gyms around kirkstall offering free days in jan to sign up.

Very good health club. However let down by people taking their children into unauthorised areas! But enjoyed our visit and as members we should be allowed more frequent visits to other bannatynes! In higher tirers! Benefits all round. None members are given plenty of freedom!

Since the takeover of Bannatyne from virgin the cleanliness has gone downhill. Both the showers and spa area are dirty, not cleaned and smell foul. Contacted Bannatyne and no response

ill mannered staff members who don’t know the difference between a policy and a section. Management don’t know their own complaints procedures as I was passed around four people and given an email for someone called Chris but the email began with GM? Clearly staff are dealing with internal affairs themselves instead of escalating the issues to higher authorities. Staff don’t know how to build a therapeutic relationship with their club members. I had been at this gym for nearly a year and not one staff member approached me or introduced themselves or offered any assistance. There’s also a massive communication breakdown between staff members as I had no option but to email the very person the incident took place with. If you’re looking for someone professional to speak to you won’t find them at this Branch. I also entailed into my email how I was discriminated against during the incident due to my disabilities but this was totally brushed off and not even address at all. They were happy to terminate my contract as fast as possible in the hope of the problematic areas I arose would calmly be brushed under the carpet. Lastly the manager likes to accuse people of using their mobile phones and his excuse is that you may take pictures of others. Clear lack of trust with their clients and to add the cherry on top the manager also went on to say how I should change my routine to suit their business needs.

I found this place because it was the best gym in this area offering swimming and a Spa. However, the club doesn't want to invest in anything if something broken takes weeks to fix like water. In hot weather air con not working and reception even dont know it. The spa also needs to fix you get maybe 7 min when it works and then a long break when it again starts to work so annoying.

Great staff all-round, from the reception to the facility rooms (gym, pool .etc) they are very well mannered and greet you with a smile. Very clean and well kept place, equipment is modern and taken care of, just a great place to spend your morning health routine. They also have a kids pool which is seperate to the olympic pool, I take my daughter there every Friday and it's very cheap (£6 a month) to take her anytime.

Been here for over 10 year .. used to be a decent exclusive gym back in the days .. staff have always been lovely!! last few years it’s gone down hill and was hoping when bannatyne took over would be better but that’s not been the case at all in fact it looks to be getting even worse ! It’s dirty in the showers, changing rooms people walking all over u no etiquette at all in the gym and staff don’t really do anything about that ! . It’s either full of kids now or students , it’s ram packed full of people all the time . It’s like a council leisure centre! But with a spar area.. they’ve cut closing times dramatically down from 12 to 11 now 10 but u have to leave the spar and pool by 9.30 witch in my eyes is scandalous for what u pay and so now there’s no choice of more peaceful times in fact they’ve made it worse (8 on a weekend)and now instead of people slowly filtering out before closing everyone is rushed out 9.30 and cueing to get in the showers witch gives it an uncomfortable atmosphere and never in my life have I had to do this at any gym and it’s every night .. is because there just trying to get as many people to join , to bring up the numbers but not improving the gym in the slightest nor bringing down the cost as it’s not wroth the money u pay anymore ! Staff friendly but really disappointed in what they’ve done to the gym not considerate to members/ long term members at all . As I say it literally a leisure centre now . Just an honest review from a very disappointed member and are considering moving gyms it’s just convenient to where I live plus pool and sauna but now your cueing to shower and the gym over crowded I’m not seeing the point of continuing to pay these prices in future ! If there was another big gym like it with the same facilities local I’d be there like a shot and I think that’s why big gym like this get away with what they do just getting as many people and anyone to join the gym on all sorts of deals .. really takes the p**s out of members paying nearly £50 a month ! But yet just keep doing cut backs to the connivence of the company not the customers

My go to gym for relaxation and spa. It has a nice gym area with plenty of machines and free weights. It also has studios and box fit rooms with punching bags etc. For me it's the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and swimming pool. Perfect for Sunday relaxation

Fantastic gym, and the childcare is very good. We joined during the summer holidays and my children loved attending with me. They had so much fun at club V while I worked out. All the staff at club are amazing with the children. I’ve had to leave with the days getting shorter and it being a longer commute but will definitely be back next summer. All the staff are very friendly. I also found it very good value for all of the facilities in comparison to David Lloyds which was the only other gym with a kids club.

  • 3/5 christopher g. 2 years ago on Google
Really great facility and atmosphere overall. The spa area is stand out in comparison to other gyms I’ve been and I’ve made a point of travelling around to take a look! Would be 5* but lacking in range of equipment so more experienced gym goers, specifically body builders need to improvise a lot. (no stair master and a very limited plate loaded range) the equipment they do have is well maintained and the classes are awesome. All round welcoming and good experience. Kids love the pool

Since they’ve taken over from virgin standards have dropped dramatically clothes spinner in ladies changing room has been broken over a month. They’ve removed all the life guards from kids and main pool replacing friendly faces with corporate attitude staff .. NO THANKS
