This museum is so cute! The weather was great so it was so nice to walk around and see all the different types of plants. At first it was hard to find the main entrance but after finding it we were kindly greeted by the employees at the ticket booth. After walking through the museum you can visit their giftshop, which has the cutest stuff, or you can relax in the cafe. And if you don't feel like walking through the museum but just want to visit the cafe you can do that, no need to pay an entrance fee. There are bathrooms and lockers available. I highly recommend this museum if you are interested in plants or you just want to take a stroll. Also there are cats :)

Spring is coming! Incredibly attractive with several different gardens, Chinese, Japanese, Rose etc. Walking around the river and sitting on the grassland with blossoms is just so chilling that you feel alive again. You can also hear various superb birds flying and playing around the trees. Perfect place to recharge yourself!!!

Not the most accessible botanical garden. It was easy to buy tickets online, but once we arrived not a single person spoke to us. Beautiful plant, flowers, and art exhibition, but for some areas it was not even possible to carry the stroller up the stairs as they were too narrow. For a baby, you can best bring a carrier to see the water lotuses and butterfly area. But if you are in a weelchair, you are out of luck. To pay a full ticket when you cannot do everything or go everywhere is not really okay. That said, even in October, there was a lot to see and learn about. The greenhouse and tropical area was a highlight, but they should cut the plants so they don't hang where you walk. If you pass by with a baby in stroller, they tend to grab leafs and ruin.

Lovely green area with many plants and exbibitions. Nice place to have a chill day, visit something or have a nice meal at their café. Good to couple with a visit to the observatory.

Wonderful collection of succulents, orchids and other plants from across the world. Look for the tiny frogs and huge crickets. Beautiful place in the heart of Leiden

We spent a day in Leiden and decided to visit the Botanical Garden. It was indeed a great idea! I really liked this garden and there are some huge plants I have never seen before. I can definitely recommend visiting this botanical garden as the atmosphere is really quaint and even though it was cold it was enjoyable!

Great place to visit. The atmosphere is lovely. Good opportunity to learn about nature and plants. Also, you could go to enjoy time with someone. My recommendation is to take a map from the shop, so could have am organized experience of all the sites you can visit. The staff is quite friendly

Usually I’m not such a big botanical garden fan, but this one was just very awesome: I spend a super long time in the tropical house which offers a lot of lovely, pretty plants. Outside it’s super nice to strike around and enjoy the garden. When I was there it was sunny and warm, so I also just lay in the sun and enjoyed my time there as if it was a regular park. Outside the garden, there is also a cafe with very delicious apple pie! Definitely worth a a try.

Extremely beautiful and relaxing garden. They had a variety of greenery and it was a great experience. The gift shop was amazing and had lots of trinkets to choose from! The cafe was absolutely amazing. The service was great and the food was perfect. Definitely make a reservation as it gets busy, or aim to arrive when they open!

Well, an unexpected journey brought so much joy and relax for both kids & adults! And the most prominent part of the enjoyment is related to the Leiden Botanical Garden.

Recently visited this botanical in Leiden and it was such a nice experience. It gave jungle and nature experience, it’s definitely a place for plant lovers, a large variety to see. The highlight of my visit was definitely this guy playing the guitar while people just sat on the grass and enjoyed every minute of his presence. It’s also a family friendly place to visit if you have kids. The only annoying thing about visiting is that in some areas got a bit clustered with people and moving around gets a bit tricky. Also some areas were closed, so I didn’t get to visit everything. Otherwise, the whole experience was greatttt.

Massive botanical gardens. Was unable to see it all in the time we had alloted. I wish it was during the season for blooms, but was still a beautiful scene. Got some really cool pics, and some good exercise.

Wonderful botanical garden that’s part of the university of Leiden, but publicly accessible (and one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe). Wonderfully quaint, and very well maintained, it feels like because of the connection to the university, there’s a lot of great scientific insights and tidbits shared throughout. The highlight is probably the indoor pond with the giant water lilies and beautiful lotus flowers.

A nice quiet spot to enjoy viewing flowers, as well as birds, bees and fish. In fact they have a special "magnifier" so you can see what is going on in the bottom of the pond!

Lovely botanical garden where flora meets history. There’s a lot you can learn about plants and their origin, especially about the ones brought to Europe from exotic lands by Dutch and German explorers. We found the theme gardens particularly interesting, like the Japanese and Chinese ones, as well as the evolution of plants. I am not sure how crowded it is during the weekend but we went on a Friday and it was not crowded at all. Really beautiful place, don’t miss out on visiting it.

Large variety of plants and flowers. Including real rarities that bloom once in a few decade, lots of flesh-eating plants, various buildings with different climates, huge butterflies and lots more. Personally my favorite part was the tropical greenhouse, including elevated walkways on different heights that enable you to walk through and experience all levels of the ‘jungle’ from various animal species vantage-points. There’s also an online tool made by Leiden Universality where you can find extended information of all plants and shows you the best walking route on an online map. Next to Hortus there’s also the Observatory (oldest still functioning university observatory in the world) which is certainly worth a visit!

This botanical garden was really great. I took 1.30 hours, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for me, because there were so many plants to take pictures... I will definitely visit again. Rest assured, it's much fuller than you expected.

Lovely vibe, gorgeous plants and the tropical plant section was my favorite. To my opinion, good date idea to visit this garden, as you would have enough time and minimal distractions to discuss together. And the lovely ambiance sets the vibe.

If you love plants you will love them. They had a variety of trees, flowers and plants. The plants were from different countries like China, Korea, Japan. Great learning for children as they have an interactive plant introduction from that.

Fantastic botanic garden with a lovely cafe and very interesting green houses. Perfect place for a sunny day

Im not the greatest plant fan but could still get enjoyment from a great walk. Inside the buildings it can be a sauna with hot weather and combined with the stairs i was definitely sweating.😅

Beautiful gardens, plants, exotic specimens in the hot houses and very relaxing oriental garden. Plenty of shade and seating, with secluded spots and canalside views. Plus a great restaurant in the cafe / orangerie

Beautiful place, totally worth it! Big greenhouse with awesome plants as the victoria water lilly, several cactus. Beautiful and magical gardens by the canal, a pond full of frogs, plenty of wild life: bees, birds, flowers. Good and clean toilets. To visit the observatory you have to schedule first.

One of oldest European botanical gardens in (1590 by Carolus Clusius). Lots of plants packed in a relatively small area. Interesting section of carnivores plants. You can relax with a very intersting local beer in the restaurant.

What a beautiful garden. There is a lot to see and you can spend 3 or 4 hours in the whole botanic garden. They have pop up cafe where you get their own beer with flowers from the garden.

A absolute treasure trove of plants from all over the world in 'almost' their real home environment. A must visit for all nature lovers visiting Leiden.

A very beautiful place if you like plants and tropical atmosphere. They have most unique collections of tropical plants and flowers. Also you can just sit and relax next to the canal. You also have nice cafe to have a quick bite and drink 🍺

Most peaceful part of Leiden. Beautiful botanical garden, next to the Academic Building of the Leiden University. Magnificent big, century old trees (the Gingko Biloba is a personal favourite), a tropical glass house with an interesting collection of tropical plants and also the historical old observatory is situated here. Next to the entrance/exit there is a small shop and a little cafetaria with a nice terrace where they serve sandwiches, tea, beers and little snacks. They organise interesting activities, tours and exhibitions regularly for adults and children.

Beautiful botanic garden, with huge and old trees. It’s also very quiet, despite being in the city center. The tropical hothouse is also ver impressive. I also liked the observatory, a very photogenic building. Ideal to get out of the busy city for a relaxing stroll.

We went in June. The outer space is nice for relax (I would describe it as nice park, without weed all around). But unfortunately we didn't see much flowers and parts of the garden seems a little neglected (e.g. vegetable garden). The inner space on the other hand was amazing. Very interesting information about various species. Very well taken care of.

A nice place for a walk and to admire beautiful plants and flowers. A few hours are enough to see the whole park. There are also small ponds and you can sit by the river to relax for a bit.

Really an amazing experience. We booked an English speaking guide around 16 and he really tried to show us as many things as possible since the garden is quite big. The guide was really friendly and explained us a lot of stuff about the medicinal herbs they had and the plants in general. When in Leiden please visit it!!
