We spent a month in Portugal, started with a restaurant like this and finished with the same style.....loved it. The food is basic but tasty. We had the veal and pork medallions with sauce and fries. A typical Portugese meal and oh so good. Neighbouring table had a grilled fish. Looked beautiful. Prices are great. House red or white 8€ and eminently drinkable. Don't forget a digestif to finish. Limited options but we got a generous pour of Cointreau for 2€. So of course we had another! The owner/chef/bartender/waiter/dishwasher comes across a little rough but a really nice guy who will joke with you. Don't let the negative comments affect your experience.

It is a nice small restaurant near the Rato metro station. Cool old style place. The owner is a chef and a waiter and a barman, all-in-one. Great kind man. The food was very good! Tasty homemade meal. You need cash to pay.

One of the more authentically local places in Lisbon. The old man who takes your order also cooks everything himself. He is lovely. When we moved to Lisbon, this was the place that made us fall in love with grilled fish. Have been back regularly since. I'm sure he hasn't raised the prices of his menu since he opened decades ago. The dilema is that I would like to keep this place a secret but he also deserves to make more $.

This restaurant is a gem in an area of upscale restaurants. Everything from the food to the decor is simple. Even the service is managed by the same person who cooks. In my opinion simplicity in the kitchen always works. The food was tasty and delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. I'll be back for sure.

Great service and delicious home style food from the kindly owner who was a one man show when we visited based on other reviewers. Note that dinner starts at 7pm. Owner was kind enough to let us in at 530pm to cook specially for us- thank you?

What a nice place this is! A cosy, very local and traditional Portoguese tasca managed by a single person who is the host and also the chef. Super cool and relaxed athmosphere, delicious and abundant food, super cheap and high quality. If you are in the area, stop by and get ready to be amazed!

Went based on a recommendation from a regular visitor to Lisbon. Perfectly traditional, home cooked food and great service from the friendly owner. Menus in English, French & Portuguese; even with a slight challenge with language, we had an incredible three courses, with wine and coffee. Very reasonably priced!

Extremely good traditional Portuguese cuisine with very fair prices. The restaurant is small and a little hidden, but the owner is very friendly and makes everything himself. We had a wonderful dinner. Definitely recommend!

Nothing in this life is perfect, but the place gets 5 stars for the overall experience - local, homemade food, cheese as starter, fish fillet with rice and salad plus 2 beers =14€. PAY ONLY IN CASH Even if it might not look from the beginning, the people there(father and son) are genuinely nice, been there a few times already so trust me, This is not a tourist trap and not very touristic and I DO hope it stays under the radar, even with all these stars

The food was really good, the squid and the cod tasted fresh. Generous portions and for the price we paid we were happy and felt full. The owner/barman/chef/server is very nice and despite the language barrier we had no difficulties communicating.

Gem of a place! The owner is a one man show - greets guests, waits tables and cooks! And does all of them well. Food was excellent - very large portions and very reasonably priced. Came for dinner - enjoyed it so much we came back for lunch the next day. Would have come back many more times but we left Portugal after lunch :-(. Next time I'm in Lisbon I'll make a effort to return. Conveniently located ~ 1 block from the Rato Metro station.

Nice family restaurant at a very reasonable price. Good choice if you are looking for good Portuguese food with nothing to do with fast food. We had the bacalhau, alentejano pork and the grilled steak. All were good. Bring cash as he does not take credit cards.

During my trip to Lisbon, I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and I have to say their French fries were simply amazing. Crispy, hot and absolutely delicious. If you're a fan of fries like me, then this place is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

Really cozy place, extremely welcoming owner and delicious food. And very reasonable prices also. Only reason I don’t give him 5 stars is ‘cause we couldn’t pay with card and he forgot to mention till last time.

Despite the name this is not a tapas bar however the food is superbly cooked by the one man operation. The owner is so friendly and helpful even though his English is very limited. All in all a wonderful dining experience. Great value and well worth a detour.

Friendly owner, go for the reasonably priced no nonsense seafood. We loved it so much we came back twice in 3 days!

The best traditional Portuguese pork and clams I’ve had and the sauce was to die for! The owner was so friendly and was even worried when I dropped sauce on my shirt. Love love loved!

I did not what to expect, but it's a nice little local restaurant, not touristic. Service was really nice and polite with sincere kindness. Menu available in English (and even French) available on demand. My steak was excellent, I enjoyed my lunch.

We travel to many places around the World and finding restaurants like this is an absolute joy. The Owner is the chef, the barman, the waiter, the works. A real one man band. The ambiance is perfect, the food honest, simple and all you could wish for. Fine dining perhaps not, but the food is every bit as good as any you will find. A true gem.

A tiny, very unpretentious place, with excellent food, & a richly warm & friendly service. A breath of fresh air for those tired of the tourist traps - we were the only guests there until a couple of locals came in. Highly recommend.
