I did not like this hostel. The beds in the six-bed dorm should not have been triples. As people have alluded to before, the bottom bunk is on floor level. I’ve stayed in excellent hostels with triple beds before, but with this little space, forget it. It is way too cramped. I will note that an extra sink outside the bathroom was a good touch, curtains on the bed were nice, and the staff was great. Common area appears nice and there is a backyard for the summer. But ultimately, this place was way too cramped (we stayed 4 nights). I’ve stayed in plenty of hostels with great 6 bed dorms but i was not comfortable here.

Originally had booked for the 1st June but unfortunately got COVID and asked if we could change the date to the 27th June and they agreed which we appreciated as it was a non-refundable booking. We only came to London to stay here as we didn’t want to lose our money but turned up on the day and staff at reception said they couldn’t find our booking despite seeing the emails agreeing to this date for a private double room. They offered us space in a 9 bed dorm despite booking a private room or lose the money, so not only have we lost our money but they also have stopped replying to us which we find appalling. Don’t put the blame on the fact that it was a non-refundable booking when you agreed to change the date for the same room in the first place!! We rather would have been told the month before that it couldn’t be changed otherwise we wouldn’t have spent more money to get to your hostel! Would never visit again

I was there just a week or two before lockdown. It was cheap, really cheap. So that's the positive. I stayed a week and due to the design of the room I was stuck next to the bath room/shower on a top bunk. Actually not too bad as I had a little nook to myself. But it meant I didn't get a locker. Every bunk had two under the beds but due to how my bunk was wedged behind a corner it was not fitted. Bed had a used plaster stuck on it too. But again for what I was paying I kept my expectations low. Only trouble I had was one night a junkie was doing his thing and I walked in with another guest and a member of staff threatening him with the police if he didn't get out but the guy was a total zombie and the police had to be called. Speaking to the staff member this seemed to be the norm. Location is good, plenty of connections to transport and lots of food options near by if you're ok with fast food etc.

It wasn't a very social experience, especially compared to other hostels. In terms of cleanliness it was fine, not great, not terrible, the biggest problem for me was one bathroom in the dormitory with 10 beds. It seemed like on other floors the bathrooms were separate from the rooms but on my floor there was only the one in the room.

Stayed in the private room for 3 nights, and it was cosy enough given that our main purpose was to sleep there and not spend too much time in the room. The smart locks on the doors were… interesting (we had to change rooms as our door lock jammed and refused to lock). The room and ensuite are also quite compact, but the affordable price (in London, no less) and the really good location of the place are a plus. The breakfast was good value and the staff were kind and helpful!

If I could give 0 I would. Triple stacked beds with no room to sit up, very claustrophobic, the lowest bed is just a mattress on the floor. Have to make your own bed which is just a thin foam waterproof pad with a flat sheet on and a comforter that doesn’t feel like it is washed each time!? The shared bathroom is TINY definitely not large enough for 9 girls to share and is essentially a wet room so everything you take in gets wet. The staff are rude and unhelpful. Don’t stay here if you like sleep, my first night had a group of 50 teenagers check out at 2am, jumping off their beds in the room above us, shouting, laughing, dragging their cases down the stairs, it’s an old house so the walls and floors are so thin you can hear EVERYTHING. Second night same things but checking in. So for several hours my whole room was awake listening to these kids, I Went to see what was going on / complain to the night receptionist he just shrugs and says it’s a group. Emailed head office to tell them this they also don’t care. It’s no way cheap enough to put up with this level of service just stay somewhere else. They are just out for profit, just want to jam as many travellers as they can into the rooms and don’t care about your experience or the quality of service they provide

I love this hostel and I've stayed in plenty! Clean, well maintained with extras like air con/heating in every room. Very clean. All rooms en suite/private bathrooms. Kitchen space GREAT. Location is great. The only niggle for some might be that they're 3 level bunks, so not much head space, but it didn't bother me. It's my hostel of choice when I come to London.

Great location and good price for London. The whole building is quite small and it's perfect if you're backpacking but not so much if you have big suitcases since you have to go up fierce narrow stairs. However, the kitchen and the common area are nice and spacious. Although the rooms are tiny, you have the bathroom inside of it and that's very handy. Staff were nice

Good location and nice staff but that's about it. I stayed in one room with five other people and it was Very cramped. The whole room looks way better on the website than irl. The bunk beds were dirty and uncleaned (I had a toenail in my bed, a friend got some pubic hair and another a pencil, very lovely). I woke up to some weird brown, sticky thing on my pillow, very lovely. The lowest bunk is just a mattress on the dirty floor. The bathroom wasn't any better it had old hair and a bad smell. We also felt kind of unsafe. Could be good for travelling solo or as a pair but NOT for bigger groups.

This hostel has a great location and facilities, the reception is super friendly and helpful! However the cleaners are probably the most aggressive and rude staff I've encountered in the world. You can't cook your own breakfast in the morning as a rule until 10am (checkout), even to cook toast you have to take abuse from the cleaners who yell at you for taking the wrong cup, plate, glass or whatever basic utensil you require. They prepare breakfast however seem to be running around cleaning things at the same time. Overall this hostel is great but it gets one star because of the cleaners. Management please talk to your staff! I've stayed in hostels around the world and this is by far the most uncomfortable breakfast experience I've encountered.

Very small bathrooms and rooms. The stay was uncomfortable. You could hear the steps in above room and beds were uncomfortable and not clean. You have to put the sheet on your bed on your own, which was weird. Also, hostel was socially dead. On the positive side, staff were nice and friendly.

This hostel is great. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The room was clean, the shower and toilet were also very clean. Had breakfast which for £6.50 seemed very reasonable. Super close to Camden high Street. They do have an under 45 policy with some rooms so be careful when booking. I don't think it's suitable for disabled people. Stairs to the front door, didn't see a lift inside.

Very friendly hostel. Comfort is what it is, but we are not looking for the comfort of a three-star hotel at such an affordable price. The staff were very welcoming. We had very cool room neighbors and we had a very pleasant stay.

Awesome location, lots to do in the area but wow this is one of the worst hostels I've encountered for the rooms themselves. 6 people stuffed into the tiniest space possible. I'm 6,4 and I didn't even fit in the bed/ was impossible to get to the top bunk I had to ask to be switched. No AC, fan or wall chargers in the bunks. My room was also right outside of the back hangout area and some kind of factory making noise at 6am. You have to pay for everything towels, breakfast, lockers, laundry it gets to the point it's a bit ridiculous. The kitchen is way too small for how many people the hostel can host on a Saturday night there was a lineup to cook food and it was impossible to clean your dishes also.

It's a nice little hostel close to Camden, about half an hour to the centre of London. There is a common kitchen and areas to relax. Not too much space in the rooms to put luggage, I would also recommend to bring some hooks to hang your clothes /towels

I loved staying at this hostel! I stayed at a 4 bed mixed dorm and absolutely loved the fact that my bed was like a shuttle and felt like I have complete privacy. There was a private toilet with the room which is really great given that usually in hostels you have to share with a lot of people. Personally I did not find the toilet very comfortable. I am a very small person (5'3") and even I found it difficult to fit to use the toilet or the sink. The shower was OK. The common areas were lovely decorated and usually quiet ( probably this has to do with the time of year I visited as well - February). Staff very friendly and helpful. Overall cleaningness of the place was spotless (great job!). Finally this hostel is a great location. Literally at the heart of Camden. About 10min walk from Camden Market and metro station and a 20 min walk from King's Cross Station. Really great experience staying here as a solo traveler. Thank you ☺️ I would most certainly recommend!

Went there for the second time now. Its simple but nice. And for the price good. Had the first time a 4 beds dorm and now a 6 cause 4 wasn’t available at this time. If you’re 190cm like me I couldn’t recommend the 6 beds cause climbing up the bed is a mission. The employees there are besides the location the best and the reason why I returned in the first place. They also got a few nice areas inside this small looking environment. Which isn’t small! If you’re not looking for something fancy just for something to sleep but still want some sort of comfort you should consider to give it a try.

We booked a private Double Room here for a one night stay (simply as a base with an event to attend nearby) Immediately on arrival it was clear that the toilet was leaking - a trail of toilet water seeping from the toilet base and flowing across the bathroom into the shower. With a disgusting smell of sewage to boot. We immediately reported this to the desk staff who brought a maintenance man into the room to 'fix' it. All he did was flush the toilet a few times, wipe up the water trail and spray air freshener - he did leave the spray in our room and advised we should use it later (as in, he knew the issue, and the disgusting smell would return)! We needed to rush to attend our event so could not wait any longer to take further action (desk staff mumbled something about no other double rooms being available so we were stuck there). When we returned that night, it was worse than ever, water all over the floor and the bathroom STANK of sewage. No sign of any staff at the desk at that hour so we had no choice but to close the door and sleep through. Next morning we were forced to brace layers of loo roll against the toilet base to try in vain to stop the leak, put a towel down on the floor to avoid stepping in the worst of the gross, dank wet slop and spray half a can of air freshener into the room just to allow us to hold our breath, brush our teeth and get the hell out of there - there was no way we were able to shower in the room. Upon checking out, it was different staff on duty, they knew about the issue but were nonplussed, just essentially shrugging their shoulder and when I asked if they thought this was the level of experience they thought fair for the money we paid for the room, all we got was 'sorry, there is nothing more we can do'... I would implore people to give this property a very wide berth indeed! A filthy experience, disinterested staff and to be honest, an outright health hazard. Avoid avoid avoid!

Booked a 6 person's room for a school trip with friends. Nice location near camden market and good breakfast. Staff polite but not anything special. Mostly a clean place. Everything is very cramped but that is to be expected. Rooms were very very small, especially the bathroom with the shower. There were 3 level beds that were fairly comfortable but hard to get onto since the lowest level is directly on the ground. Since we all had luggage the floor, it was entirely covered with it, even though we tried to minimize the space it took over.. Additionally, there is a weird policy in the rooms to not leave food out/ eat in rooms or you get fined (unsure about the cost but I believe £20). If you're looking for a comfortable stay with friends i wouldn't really recommend this place but with minimal luggage and less people in one room i can imagine it being a nice experience. Going into a big room with strangers sounds like a nightmare

The hostel is a very great deal. Fantastic location, good price and communal spaces. There are only one small bathroom even in the 10 people room. And really small one! So this is the only bad thing.

Good location, pretty central, in the city and good price value, clean place with curtains in front of beds and bathroom in bedroom, I shared with 5 other people. Underground, and overground stations, Euston and Eurostar station are in walkable distance. Supermarkets and restaurants are close by and staff is helpful and friendly.

Nice hostel with invidual "pod" beds. Curtain to pull over for privacy and lockers in Room. One very small bathroom (toilet and shower in one) which was not ideal for a room of 10 people. Clean stay and great location.

  • 5/5 Paul D. 8 months ago on Google
Awesome location just minutes walk from Camden. Easy to get in and out and the rooms are clean with USB power in each bunk. All the beds seem to have curtains so at least there is privacy when you want it.

It's a nice hostel. First one without a bar attached. Lol There is no lift, and if you're over 45, you need to book a private room. The front stairs are steep, but the handrails are sturdy. There is a kitchen setup in the basement and a smoking section off the back. The building does not have much noise reduction so you hear everything going on. The staff was great.

I booked a private room I.e. my own bed and my own bathroom, separate from the main hostel rooms, for a small additional amount. It was a small but very clean room. The rooms seemed to be cleaned everyday, the air conditioner was very good (and VERY COLD, great for the London summer). It was definitely worth it for the price and location in Camden.

  • 5/5 Sanmegh T. 9 months ago on Google
Great rooms with privacy-protecting bunk beds, lockers inside the rooms as well as for extra luggage storage, more communal toilets other than the ones inside the rooms, very friendly staff, amazing communal areas including back garden, kitchen, dining etc. The only downside would be breakfast didn't have more options compared to its price. But otherwise a superb stay; I would definitely go back!

I really enjoyed my stay in the hostel! The staff was really great, they were very friendly! The common areas were great and the rooms to! The breakfast was really good with a lot of options! I really recommend this place!

Clean, inexpensive and pretty much what we expected. Don't need any frills and that's exactly what we got. Shower water tepid and the sound of footsteps throughout the night was rather irritating but to be fair there were earplugs provided. Would i recommend it...yes, provided you are aware of these issues. Great breakfast!

Smart Stay Camden Inn is amazing! The staff are very accommodating and helpful. Such a lovely clean hostel. They let me stay a while I was getting my accommodation sorted in London. Great area so close to everything in the heart of Camden. They are also very reasonably priced. I can’t thank the staff enough for making my stay so easy. I will be visiting again when travelling.

  • 1/5 Will S. 1 year ago on Google
For £70 a night this place is not worth it. The rooms are fairly clean which is the only good thing. Beds come with a USB 2 slot but not a proper plug, so if you have a USB-C charger for your phone forget about it. For some reason the room temperature is set to 50 degrees so if you don't deal with heat we'll forget about getting any sleep. Particularly if you're on a top bunk. Very claustrophobic, little space for anything. Receptionists were okay, nothing to shout about.

  • 5/5 Christoffer H. 1 year ago on Google
Does the job of providing somewhere to stay cheaply while in London. Its a pretty nice area, and the room was fine. Our group had to sleep with the window open as it would otherwise get quite humid but all in all good.

Great hostel. Great people around. Great area. And super good price for this localisation. And of course don't expect sleeping on the golden pillow, beacouse stilli- it's hostel ;) I recommended it from the bottom of my heart 😊 And of course I have to mention reception- Jean, Itamar, Luigi- super helpful guys, always try to do their best!

I had a good experience. Very friendly staff and I met some nice and lovely people. it was nice in the evening talking with other guests in the common room. Camden is a location of London I will recomend to everyone to visit. Staying here was also very nice. clean, good price, friendly people. Also if you are travelling alone.

Had a good stay in the Hostel. It's excellent for one or two nights, but when staying longer you might want a better bed. The dorms are clean, the kitchen and common room less. Staff was friendly and welcoming and worked really fast. Overall a good stay.

Just the best hostel across the globe thanks to Jean and Itamar. 5stars+

  • 2/5 Marco V. 4 years ago on Google
I stayed three nights. While the location is decent, and the price is fair, there are a few issues with the hostel. The worst offense in my view was that the beds were much too short for me (193cm) making a restful sleep quite challenging. I think the tallest you can be in these beds, comfortably, is 185cm. Besides that, the sheets I was given had some pink stains on them, though otherwise they smelled clean. One of the lockers in my room didn't work, so my partner and I had to share our locker. The rooms are very small and the whole place feels quite cramped, though that didn't bother me.

  • 4/5 Kieran H. 2 years ago on Google
Was clean and tidy hostel, and wasn't actually too bad price wise for London for a private room, my only complaint would be the walls and ceilings are like paper and you can hear other rooms easily, so I recommend some quality earplugs for sleeping, luckily I had some but I can see this ruining some people's experiences so thought I'd leave just a bit of constructive feedback. Had a great time otherwise, camden is definitely one of the best little areas of London.

Unfortunately, very poor experience with Smart Hostels Camden. Was given an invalid room at first (was not supposed to be bookable because of works ongoing) then bounced from one overcrowded room to another. I understand that because of regulations they aren't allowed to pack too many people into the same space, however this was not the case and both rooms I was in had little care for social distancing.

  • 5/5 Paul L. 2 years ago on Google
My first experience of hostel stays was exceptional in every way. The midweek price was unbeatable and the location fantastic with Camden Market a few minutes walk away and not too far from the airport and main attractions of the city. The lads on the counter we're warm and friendly and very helpful. The premises are modern and clean feeling fresh after being refurbished. The check in was easy and quick, and the requirement of photo ID was very reassuring safety wise. Even the triple bunks are very comfortable although they may not look it. I will definitely be back again soon, no doubt. If you are staying in London on a budget this is the place.

  • 5/5 Anthony M. 2 years ago on Google
Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Facilities were good - nice lounge with plenty of desks and plug sockets, TV room and fully equipped kitchen. I stayed in a mixed 6 bed dorm which was clean, the bunk beds were comfortable enough and there were lockers in the room (a padlock can be purchased from reception for £4). Price was very reasonable, highly recommend hostel in the heart of Camden Town 👌🏻

  • 4/5 GEORGE W. 2 years ago on Google
So … I think this is probably a pretty fair review. The staff, facilities, location and price are all absolutely paramount (as far as a budget hostel is concerned). No complaints about those in the slightest. However you must be prepared for the wide variety of clientele. That’s nothing against the establishment (or the clientele) but it something you must be prepared for. (Mask and ear plugs are an absolute must).

  • 3/5 Anwar D. 2 years ago on Google
It is an okay Hostel! It's cheap and very clean but it doesn't feel comfortable. It's also very small and everything is white, which comes down to what you prefer. The staff were really nice and friendly though. The rooms themselves were small but doable, windows could open, but the actual size of the beds was too small.

  • 3/5 A G. 2 years ago on Google
My experience in the hostel was contradictory, on the one hand, there was a lot of noise at night, there is always someone at the reception but nobody respects the guests who are sleeping, the cleaning and kitchen girls are always speaking in their language noisily, even when you're present which doesn't seem polite to me and I'm not English native, they have very strict with the rules, but on more than one occasion I saw one cleaner touching the ham and cheese without gloves or food tongs!! The rooms are not good cleaned, nor do they change the towels (when we had that include in our price), I had to ask that. On the other hand, the location is great, the room is small but fine for a few days and there are two fantastic receptionists!! The dyed blond boy and the long-haired man, they were very very kind all the time, the two of them made the stay more pleasant. thank you very much!

  • 3/5 Kenneth B. 2 years ago on Google
The walls, the stairs, and the railings all felt like they were made of cardboard, and the rooms were so small I could barely fit inside the bathroom. That said, the staff were nice and everything was clean. Next time I will try to find a nicer place, but this works in a pinch. Gotta love the location in the middle of Camden town though!

  • 3/5 Will S. 2 years ago on Google
Facilities are rather straightforward for the price, however bear in mind that there are some nicks and bumps here and there. The biggest issue I had was with my roommates, as it seems like nobody had any consideration for people who were sleeping, and a woman who was staying in the room smoked cigarettes in the shared bathroom while she showered. As much as I hate being a stickler, some basic ground rules, or even a simple reminder to be considerate of others here would be nice, and would better keep civility amongst the guests. I can forgive people for snoring, but if it's 10pm and you decide to turn the room lights on, strike up conversations with people who wanna sleep, and you start watching YouTube with the sound on, then I have a problem with you, that's what the common room is for! Sorry for the rant but if this makes only one person more considerate in a hostel, then good.

It's not the best hostel I've been to, but also not the worst. Beds are comfortable and equipped with a USB charger for your phone and a lamp. Bathrooms are small and a bit unhygienic. Camden is about as good as it gets location-wise. If you're looking for a cheap stay in London, this is your place.

  • 5/5 DB A. 2 years ago on Google
They best hostel in London. I've stayed in many in hostels due to work. In search of the holy grail of hostels this is the best ever. Probably the best in Europe, oh but we're British so best in England and Europe. I can not find a single fault and I normally do. What a awesome place.

  • 2/5 Rosie W. 2 years ago on Google
Uncomfortable, short beds and the bathroom is cramped and badly designed (no where to put your towel or clothes). I also wouldn't feel safe travelling there solo as a woman. There is also nowhere comfortable to relax there so if you get tired in London you'll have to go to a cafe or something instead, spending more money. It was very clean, however.

  • 4/5 Delfina S. 1 year ago on Google
Super clean. Good price. The beds in shared rooms are like navy not very comfortable and quite tight. But the Portuguese guy at the front desk was amazing. And the breakfast is very very good and complete for a very reasonable price.

Great value for money. We visited London in May and stayed for 4 nights. The hostel was very clean, the staff really accomodated and friendly. There is always someone at the reception desk for anything you might need. The kitchen is fully equipped. It is near King's Cross and St. Pancras Station and some bus stops with regular routes. The best choice for tourists who wish to see most of London in short amount of time cause it's very close to city center.

My son who’s 18 had his 1st time in London and rang me at midnight as the receptionist wouldn’t let him in without photo id that he had lost. I called them up and they agreed for him to check in. Which was a relief for me as a mum because we live in north wales. So I couldn’t just pick him up from London and there was no trains. He would of been on the streets where he doesn’t know. Thank you to whoever he was at reception. You gave me peace of mind.

The hostel is very noisy, they don't have silence rules after 10pm. The bathroom inside the room is tiny. For those who want to rest and sleep at night I do not recommend.

  • 1/5 Young Y. 2 years ago on Google
The staff at the dining room were super nice and kind, when I told them that I cannot do the washing without the gloves due to allergy, they said its ok leave it. But I was shocked by the shower facility, I just got off the plain after about 20 hours of travel time including waiting at the airport thus I needed a good shower. It had no shower hose, some tiny tap was fitted at the top and I had to push the button with my foot almost every second. I still felt unwashed after struggling with the shower and was miserable. Sure, its a cheap price, but the shower hose and continous flowing water are the basics of accommodation. I do not recommend this place.

    · I didn’t know, you can get free breakfast if you post them and hashtag them! We booked double room with private bathroom. Reception girl Bindu was very friendly and helpful to us. We press the wrong button in the air conditioner remote and we confuse the system. She fixed this when we were not in the room to make sure we have a warm place! We are very happy with the place, we will definitely back soon!!!💗

Stayed a length of 14 nights. Location was good to the tube station. Rooms are clean and spacious. Only but is that it can get quite warm if the room is full but other than that all good. Kitchen is well equipped and clean. Noise was kept to minimum at night usually by 11pm lights are off and people are chilling in their beds. The beds are comfortable. However my room had a 3 tier bunk bed. I was lucky enough to get a bottom but really saw some people struggle to climb up. I want to specially thank Bindu from the reception who has gone above and beyond to meet all my requests (additional pillow, looking after my things while I was checking out, solving any queries that I might have had) she is very nice, polite and professional. I am very please with my customer service experience. Looking forward to come back if I ever pop in London again.
