Born and raised in this neighborhood but never tried until today. Wish I had come earlier. It's a very warm, cozy atmosphere. You can feel immediately that every other patron has been there multiple times already. It seems the go-to order is "a special and an egg", which is a sandwich/sliced hot dog, and a pickled egg that comes with peperoncinos and pretzels. Not the most complex of cuisines but it sure has a comforting taste.

This is the coolest bar ever... bar none. 98 years old. All cash. Beer in schooners. Wine coolers and hard seltzer are the only non-beer options. About 8 items on the food menu including pickled eggs (they sell 500 per day and serve them with pretzels and mustard). The most expensive food item is Joe's special at $3.70. Sausage sandwich with pretzels. This place is a slice of great bar culture.. Check it out!

Traveling from Massachusetts with my girlfriend who is from California. I had to try this place that she couldn't stop talking about. This place is great. The staff is spot on, the beer was incredibly cold and had to try the special, twice. I plan on coming back to California and will be making this bar on top of my list.

Staff is very nice. Food was great, and the schooners of beer were ice cold! Make sure to pick up one of their world famous shirts while your there.

Joe Jost's will be celebrating it's 99th Anniversary on Thursday, August 10. This place defines the term "neighbor bar.". It has been an institution in Long Beach since in opened in 1924. The food isn't spectacular, but it is comfort food. Five sandwiches all priced under $4, roasted peanuts, bags of chips and pickled eggs and that's pretty much the extent of it. I had the Polish sausage with cheese, dill pickle spears and mustard on rye for $3.70, tax included. Simple, easy, satisfying. Add a tasty local lager, TVs tuned to Dodgers at Padres, made this guy happy. Great staff!

The best. I live in Maine but my great grandfathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, father, mother, brothers, sisters, wife, myself & my unborn child have all patronized this establishment and we all fully recommend You do the same. Long Live Joe Josts. Forever.

Excellent atmosphere and food for a decent price. The hot dog sandwich and peanuts were delicious. It was my first time with my buddy who has been going there for 30 years. Even got a t shirt.👌

This place will be a 100 years old in 2024! The beers are always nice and cold someone tap and summon cans but a good selection! Don't forget to try their pickled eggs they're absolutely delicious. My favorite is Joe's special with egg salad. Bring cash they don't take cards and luckily they do have an ATM for those that forget or don't carry cash.

A nice place to meet new people while having a drink at the bar. Pleasant individuals who tell tall tails to one another while drinking beer, eating hot dogs, and drinking more beer. This is the kind of spot where I could easily spend every evening. 99 years old and a bit worn but where else can you play pool, darts, and piss in a stainless steel troff,

Great neighborhood bar. The beer is nice and cold, and the pickled eggs are the best. You might have to wait a little while for a seat in the bar during peak times or you can always head to the back room where they have pool tables and plenty and lots of seating too.

You need to order your own food at the bar but that's okay and The Limited menu food comes really really quickly. We had the liverwurst sandwich and pickled eggs. The egg was broken so he just gave it as a freebie which was nice. Tasty. We went there two nights in a row and both nights they had a party in the back and even covered the pool tables to make an extra table. That pretty much eliminates Billiards for anyone so one star off for that. Maybe they need to build a bigger banquet area for parties.

I hadn’t been there for about 45 years. It was excellent then, as now. Excellent all around! No wonder they’ve been around for 100 years! Prices are very inexpensive.

I've been to Joe Jost's several times and recommended to friend they check it out. While the bar may be a cool place DON'T EVER purchase merchandise though there online store. The customer service is non-existent and you'll never receive the item(s). Can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with the experience. This will certainly prevent me from spending another with this bar or online rip off store. What a shame...

Good beers, awesome pickled egg. The sandwiches could have a better selection. Other than that, It's a nice pit stop with terrific ambiance

One of my favorite places in Long Beach! It's a classic beer bar. Great beer selection. Cash only, no credit cards, so be prepared. Pool tables, shuffle board, and overall great atmosphere.

I am in Long Beach 4-5 times a year, and finally decided to see what all the talk was surrounding this place. Parking is a bit tight, but I was lucky and showed up as a car was leaving around 1:30pm on a Thursday. I was surprised to see the bar area full, but there were some seats in the back. But, again I got lucky as someone left the bar as I was walking back. Even through the chaos, I was greeted by one of the bartenders before I was able to take my seat. I had heard a lot about their ice cold beer in oversized glasses called schooners. I ordered an 805, and absolutely was not disappointed. I then asked about their pickled eggs that they are famous for. They sell 3,000 of those eggs a week, according to the bartender. There were two eggs with pepper on them delivered in a paper boat container that were on top of pretzels and a few yellow chilies. The eggs were amazing! While I was at it, I also asked about their famous sandwich, which consists of rye bread, a polish sausage cut down the middle with pickle out in the cut, and a white cheese. That did not disappoint either. There were a lot of locals when I was there, and they were friendly enough. This is a cash only place, with an ATM machine available for a $1.50 fee. Overall, a great experience…and I will be back.

Don't sleep on Joe's guys. It may seem intimidating because most of the clientel are older, middle-aged veterans, but it's a more diverse crowd once you get in there. Plus the staff is extremely friendly and so inviting that you will feel right at home. I never have to wait too long for a beer, even when it's jam packed. The bar has been around for like, over 80 years. The food is reminiscent of old time 40s or 50s deli, with just several different sandwiches on rye and ice cold beer. Joe's special is the favorite but if you are really feeling hungry, ask for a "Marley", which is a polish dog, pickle, and egg salad sandwich. It's probably the best sandwich ever. Their pickle egg recipe is amazing so make sure you try them. Overall I love this place, and the old time feel they bring with the bar stools lined close together and high-rise booth benches. It's cash only cats, remember to bring your green or use their ATM. Kids are allowed in the front booths but not in the back area. They have awesome root beer on tap as well for non drinkers. Check it out for sure!!!

Coldest beer in town. Cheap eats. The pickled eggs are inventive and quite tasty.

Loved Joe Jost's. Always get the Joe's special, a schooner of beer and a picked egg. Thought I try the egg salad sandwich and it was great.

Always a great experience at this iconic Long Beach establishment. The service is always awesome and of course the ice cold beer and pickled eggs never disappoint

Good, but didn't live up to the hype for us. We went due to all the great reviews and don't regret it but we also won't rush back. You should go, but lower your expectations before walking through the door. The staff were nice, small selection of draft beers, simple sandwiches (but prepared quickly). I wanted to love the eggs but I've had better - we though they were fresh but not marinated long enough. This place may be great on a packed weekend, not so much on a slow weeknight.
