With only a week until we headed home, we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights in Lyon at Les Suites de l'Ile Barbe before moving on to Marseille - and what a treat! This property has been in the family since 1891 and part of it has been renovated into apartments. Our host Bénédicte booked a restaurant nearby for the night we arrived and generally looked after us. If you’re looking for somewhere special in Lyon - two bedrooms with en-suites and a dining table and lounge seating 10 check it out - oh and there are peacocks in the garden 🦚 We will definitely be back - and we’ll bring friends next time.

10 stars experience! An truly amazing experience! The apartment was so clean and beautiful and it lead to a dreamy garden and lake view this was an experience never to be forgotten. The host is so professional and generous I loved my stay and will definitely come back!

The hotel is in a beautiful location - a 15 min taxi from central Lyon. One can rent a bike and save the 15 euro fare. The rooms are sparkling clean and large by European standards. What you lose in location, you gain in terms of space - and peace and quiet. The pricing offsets to costs of transportation to Lyon. Breakfast is served in your room, you have a choice of eggs, oatmeal, yogurt etc. coffee machine in your room. The family lives in site, so security is not an issue. The parking lot is small, don’t bring your gigantic SUV. The garden is organic, not pristinely manicured as one may expect in North America - likely because of environmental regulations because the hotel is on an island. The owner is very responsive to your needs via WhatsApp. For instance my wife wanted a glass of wine and the owner offered a bottle from her own collection (which appears to be well chosen). There is a great bakery within walking distance - like a must see in Lyon. No hesitation to book here again. No need to be downtown. The owner’s tastes in restaurants is outstanding - let her book for you!

Absolutely fantastic place, perfect quiet location, ideal interior, and warm welcome. Tenth century old monastery rebuild to cozy and elegant apartments - with literally everything you might need for a great stay - from a modern kitchen to clever air conditioning and glowing wall pictures turning to be smart TVs.

Our family had a really wonderful stay - the loft was incredibly spacious, well decorated, and comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen. The amenities were very nice as well, with a beautiful garden and nearby area, and delicious breakfast brought to our room. Bénédicte was very welcoming and helpful, and considerate of our travel plans and providing recommendations. This was such a relaxing and pleasant stay in Lyon - highly recommend for anyone traveling in the area to experience this beautiful location just north of the central part of the city.

Bénédicte is a wonderful host! The rooms were fantastic both in style and comfort, and the service was excellent. The island is beautiful, and comes with its own incredible history. Definitely recommend this hotel is you are looking for a wonderfully beautiful spot to stay while in Lyon.

Absolutely stunning. I went with my mother, we were received as KINGS. A real paradise, ruled by natural, positive, benevolent fellows. It was a real dream. Bénédicte took care of us like we were her family's members. Absolutely not extravagant in terms of price, while completely idyllic. The site is incredibly, romantically inspired.. That's Lyon. Lyon people are known for being really very kind with great tastes... At l'Ile Barbe, it feels like the region reputation is just obviously a major. I will get back there as soon as I can.
