I knew that the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon offered the largest art collection outside of Paris. And yet I seriously underestimated the length of the tour through the halls of this beautiful 17th century abbey. The ticket price alone would justify the walk around the amazing building. It's good to know that access to the heavenly inner garden is completely free. The museum is literally in the heart of the city. Next to it is the Bartholdi Fountain and Lyon City Hall. My friend was disappointed by the lack of world-famous masterpieces. I, on the other hand, happily went through the cultural history of five millennia. I paid particular attention to the works of Rubens, Rembrandt, Rodin, Gauguin and van Gogh. The Museum of Fine Arts met me with artifacts from every single major civilization from antiquity to the present day. This is probably the most valuable jewel in Lyon.

Good museum. A walking tour of Dijon took us here. The permanent collection is free and we went to see the Tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy. Fascinating. We had to walk much of the museum to get there and deeply regretted not having the time to study the collection.

Good museum with the necessary for be in the spot light. Some areas are in renovation so make sure that you check it before. For enter I used the Lyon city card and was very convenient. I highly recommend that you use this card and just go around different museums.

Great Museum!! The paintings and sculpture section was good. There is a cafe and a bookshop inside. Outside there is a garden with few statues, its a nice place to sit and read during summers and autumn. The chocolat viennois in the cafe is a must try, so creamy and rich. Must visit if you come to Lyon.

This museum has some nice art and historical artifacts. It doesn't take long to get through the exhibits. The courtyard is a good place to sit and relax.

A fabulous museum. A wonderful collection of Egyptian, Roman and Greek antiquities. Fabulous art deco collection. Lots of great 20th century french art. Highly recommend.

It has a great collection. You need 2 to 3 hours to visit all of it. Unfortunately, the audio guide was enabled only for a few pieces. On top of that, there wasn't much English explanation next to the art pieces.

The museum of fine arts of Lyon is a tour-de-force marvel and a fantabulous experience. To begin the journey, it's location is impressive near Place des Terreaux and is inside a former Benedictine convent with stunning central courtyard surrounded by beautiful cloisters, a central garden with spectacular bronze and marble statues inside the garden and along the cloisters' corridors. It costs €8 to enter (absolutely worth it) and extra for personal electronic guide in several languages. It's one of the biggest art museums in France and exhibitions range from important classic and modern arts to Egyptian antiquities to religious art and sculptures. There's public lavatory and restaurant in the museum. I spent nearly two hours exploring this stunning art museum due to time constraints. But, you're allowed to exit and re-enter using the same ticket. If you're in for a really great experience, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon is a must destination and really take your time to explore the entire premise and not just the inside.

A huge museum with really beautiful art pieces and some good interesting brochures to get u organized. I loved the fact that there was no need for booking in advance and still, no people was waiting in line and inside it wasn't crowded at all so u could admire the art at your own pace with quality.

I very much liked the sculpture and 19th century painting section. The Egypt- and the 12 - 17 th century painting sections were less interesting to me personally. Still 8 eur/pp full price is definitely worth it.

The main idea I had is that the museum deserves greater laud. It has 3 main cathegories: paintings, sculptures, and fine art, I can say goods. It's not too big, not too hard to understand the idea, and with important historical periods and art directions. This is the museum for different "grades" of observing and enjoing. You know...I would like to come again, so you should come too, and ✔️ your first time.

The permanent collection is cool, but all signs next to the pictures were explained in French, nothing in English. The most important collection which includes Picasso was closed for refurbishment until end of March. Except for that it was a really fair price, they have free lockers and the part that covers Egypt is cool. Just we aware they close at 18:00 so be in advance as you might need minimum 3 or 4 hours.

Flat on the museum guards but that is unfortunately a classic and on the site and the necessary reservations in times of health crisis. I imagine that such an institution has a team dedicated to digital. I'll be back (Original) Lieu très sympathique, habitué du Louvre j'ai trouvé de belles pièces et ai aimé y rester de longues heures, bonne sélection de livres à la librairie. (Translated by Google) Interesting sculpture room. It is a shame that some of them are only clearly visible from certain angles because a statute is generally designed to be seen in all its dimensions. Maybe it would be necessary to change them from time to time ... This museum allows you to see quality works from all eras. The donation from Jacqueline Delubac, one of Sacha Guitry's wives, particularly enriched the contemporary art collection. The space devoted to temporary exhibitions is large enough to deal with a theme in a substantial way.

(Translated by Google) Entrance to the MHL is the same as for the Museum of Puppetry Arts, which is located in the same building. I expected a small museum on the history of the city, but found it in an exceptionally organized museum in a Renaissance building renovated to perfection. We walk through the museum and admire the quality of the rooms, the windows and the preservation of this jewel of old Lyon. As for the museum, the permanent collection is dense and long, but traces the history of the city chronologically with objects, stories, quotes and images of great value and quality. It’s absolutely impressive, and it remains my favorite museum in Lyon. For fans of cities, history and architecture, this place is a must.

From famous and classic paintings and sculptures to modern art and contemporary exhibitions, with a part of history and archeological finds, we needed 4 hours to get a close look. The building is very interesting and the garden ready for your breaks. Inside cafe and snacks. My only negative comment would be about the poor lighting in many of the exhibits.

Thought this was okay. Priced reasonably for what they have to offer. It was a bit confusing to navigate the recommended route through the building. Building itself is quite nice, and the collection I found the most interesting was the room with the different coins.

Beautiful museum and home of the famous Perseus vs. Medusa statue. In this interpretation Perseus is right about to behead Medusa, and you can see the pain and horror in her eyes. In contrast, Perseus appears focused and committed in finishing the task, and there is no sense of remorse. Compare this statue to the one in Florence where Perseus has already beheaded Medusa and is raising her head in victory.

Very large museum with eye-catching paintings and sculptures. Mostly you can find religious artwork on the walls. The reception speaks English very well and they are kind. The toilet on the -1 floor doesn’t have a lift and there is no soap. The hygiene could be way better.

Must Read: There is a coat storage area, but they will advise you to keep them with you because it gets cold in the museum. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! It gets quite hot so give them your coat for storage. If you are using an audio tour and you have the wrong language, press 9?9 and then you'll be able to select your language. (It might be ?9? if that doesn't work) I'm not an arts person but this place has a whole lot of variety from artifacts to paintings. There is an entry fee of about 8 euros. Audio tours are available in English and French.

I love this museum, specifically the collections of statues and impressionist paintings! Ceramics and other items are great as well. The museum is nice but the restaurant in the first floor has the rudest staff I have seen in Lyon so far, we made a mistake taking our seat ourselves instead of waiting because there was no one there to ask. After that the waiter started being unbelievable rude to me and my mother saying "now thanks to u I have to clean all the stuff you touched.. Unbelievable" if we make a mistake you can tell us that, no problem but in a nice way. When I said to him that a sign in english would help (its a museum where a lot of tourist are). He answered very rudly that we are in france and there is no need for any other languages than French here. When I told the waiter that French was not my first language he look at me in a way I would have loved to punch you in the face.

The Lyon Museum of Fine Arts is second to Musee d'Orly with respect to impressionist paintings. The collection is very rich with works of Monet, Manet and several others. There is also a chic coffee house which serves hot beverages and lunch. My personal opinion is that this museum is the first place any visitor to Lyon should consider.

From the beginning of the second millennium, the ladies of St Pierre, the Benedictines, occupied this building. This real estate complex was partially rebuilt during the 17th century and kept its religious function until the revolution when it was closed. It was during the consulate that it gradually became a real estate complex dedicated to art. It will become the seat of the School of Fine Arts. This museum is ideally located in the heart of the city, on the Place des Terreaux, at the foot of the Croix Rousse hill, next to the town hall and close to the opera house.

Still worth a visit. Located in Old Lyon and above all an old Lyon building. The higher you go, the higher you go in the century without the history of Lyon. And this courtyard with its espalier terraces or spending time with friends during a lunch or a snack - coffee. Please, even if I'm not from Lyon, so absolutely not from Lyon or adoption but living in Lyon for 41 years I love this city and its spirit ... So ladies and gentlemen, nerd of all board and annoying everywhere avoid changing names ..... Because it must change, we wonder why! LYON has its particular identity, customs and habits. Lyon is not Paris or any other big city (Original) C'est quoi ce nouveau snobisme de renommer Le lieu.... Too bad that the works on display are not particularly remarkable, and that even if the closing indicates 18h30, at 18h15 the guards will have already chased you out .. (Translated by Google) A very interesting museum with lots of great exhibits. It's just a shame that, as is unfortunately common in France, the exhibits are only available in French and the associated texts only in French. There are also one or the other explanation sheet in other languages, but to really enjoy it, a corresponding description in English would be almost mandatory. So tourists could become even more excited about the wonderful French culture.

Great collections from antiquity to modern art. Don’t miss the sculpture hall. You can enter the courtyard for free, very nice spot to get away from the city’s noise, even to have a snack.

Stunning place I had a great visit, the pieces presented don’t have much space restriction so you can look the sculptures and painting really close! They give you a map and the rooms are numbered so you don’t get lost and it makes sure that you’ll see everything After entering, before getting into the museum itself there’s a cute little garden thing that’s is pretty atmospheric and relaxing with some sculptures sprinkled on it :)

This museum has a good selection of items split into 3 main areas: 1) sculptures, 2) artifacts (featuring many from Ancient Egypt / Greece / Roman Empire), and 3) artworks (from the usual abundance of Christianity works, to classical scenes and portraits including works by Claude Monet, to some more modern paintings). Takes about 2.5-3 hours to see everything at a wandering pace. Easy to navigate with free maps available. Only French information next to objects/paintings, though the titles are translated to English where applicable. €8 entry seemed reasonable to me. Café was expensive (€5 for a cappuccino or can of coke), but most cafés in Lyon are expensive. Free lockers available. I would recommend it to those that enjoy looking around museums/galleries, or if the weather is bad.

Great museum with plenty of different things! - English audio guide was not fully covering the exhibition. - Few wrong English labels for art objects: "young girl with a Kid" instead of "young girl with a goat"

The museum is situated in the city center, in front is a big square with a beautiful fountain, the exhibition is composed by different sculptures, paintings, coins, and many artefacts. If you are interested of culture and history I will strongly recommend this place.

The building is so unique. You will see a garden in the middle and when you came inside you might imagine that you back to the old era as it's maintained well and seems that they did minimum renovation to the building. Nice place to visit after you went to the square outside
