We chose this hostel as they were the cheapest place we could find who provided secure bike storage. The bike storage was very useful but otherwise we were disappointed. We had a private room but we were repeatedly woken up in the night by doors slamming and, on one occasion, another guest screaming in the corridor. The communal kitchen seemed very small considering the size of the hostel. The common room was nice but seems to get hired out for private events, for example a tattoo artist was working there the day we arrived so the space was used up for this. Our room was dusty and the shower cubicle needed cleaning properly. I wouldn't stay again.

Good location, good quality beds but I've seen better services.

Away Hostel is a welcoming hostel in beautiful vibrant Lyon. I loved how big and spacious and well-lit the dorms are, although I never found a way to make the bedside lamps work for either of my rooms. The bathrooms are also huge, open, and gender specific, and the lights are controlled by motion sensor. Super friendly and helpful staff. The kitchen is small and doesn't permit true cooking - hotplate only - but there is a large refrigerator to store your food, and there is an attached cafe and coffee shop that make it easy to meet others. Hostel also has large coin-operated storage, which fits large backpacks and suitcases.

I stayed for two nights at this hostel, and there’s a lot to say. First of all, bathrooms are nasty, smelly, floors are dirty and you kinda doubt it when you want to take a shower. This hostel is simply fantastic! The rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious. I stayed here with my school group and we were able to keep our six bed room to just the three of us in the room. The showers are great and the bathrooms are kept clean. There is a beautiful lobby with a kitchen, bar/breakfast area and a very handy card system for accessing your room and the inside of the hostel. There is a laundry machine as well that costs five euros. Just be sure to pay at the front desk as that is where they will give you the tokens to use the machines. Overall, for my four day stay, I could not have asked for a better hostel!

Very nice hostel in the center of Lyon, welcoming staff, good coffee :) The biggest minus to me was lack of privacy curtains in multi rooms, also 2 showers out of 5 and 1 toilet out of 2 were closed for maintenance, which caused queues. Hopefully, they get fixed soon!

Easily the best hostel I've ever been to! It was a nice surprise for me honestly! The room was very clean, the staff are all friendly and the location is convenient for pretty much any place you may want to visit when in Lyon.

This is a great hostel! Reception was super friendly and happy to help me practice my French, and the common area was nice as well. The dorm rooms are very spacious (as is the whole place), and the bathrooms are clean enough (though more toilets would be appreciated). I was a bit uncomfortable with the summer heat, but reception put me next to the window so that I could always at least get the evening breeze (then there were a ton of mosquitoes though). The location is great, and I loved Lyon overall! Would for sure recommend this hostel. People are friendly, but it isn't the most social hostel I've seen.

I spent more than 2 weeks at Away Hostel until I found another accommodation in Lyon. The Hostel is quite well located in the first arrondissement, close to bars, restaurants and night life. There is even a bar downstairs in the same building. Due to its location in a very vibrant neighborhood I would not recommend staying in this hostel if you look for a calm place to stay - it is definitely not calm at all. I have stayed 2 weeks in a Co Living room and really appreciated it as there are just 5 instead of 10 beds in one dorm and you have much more private space there. The price is fine and it also includes breakfast so that at the end it is even cheaper than a normal dorm (but you have to stay at least 2 weeks). I was not very satisfied about the cleaneliness in the bathrooms and the kitchen. The kitchen is not well equipped at all, at the beginning of my stay there was one single hotplate for all the guests of the hostel which made it quite difficult to cook dinner there. Later they added another hotplate but still the kitchen equipment, dishes and cutlery was not very satisfying. I have stayed in a lot of hostels so far and have experienced that people kind of adapt to the cleanliness found at a place. If a kitchen was really clean you would not even dare to leave it dirtyer afterwards. I would definitely recommend those who run Away Hostel to clean this common area more carefully - guests will thank you!

Very nice hostel! The interior is cosy, which makes you feel at home. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to get an extra bed for our toddler. The daily specials for lunch were tasty and high quality, as was the breakfast. The shared kitchen could have been a bit cleaner but was useful.

This place has a simple and efficient check-in and out system. The rooms were nicely designed and cleaned, and the common bathrooms were clean as well and had proper space for each facility. It's 28-July and the bathrooms have been last cleaned on the 25th. It's incredibly filthy. Not only the toilets but the showers... i've entered one and the small flies attacked me. I've backpacked for years in Asia-SouthAmerica and Europe... and it's really shocking to find a +20eur in this condition. The kitchen smells funny as for not taking out the trash for days and days. Do something guys... otherwise you will be flooded by rats in a few days.

It was just an okay experience at best..after reading loads of reviews I had high expectations for this place but was honestly let down by a handful of experiences. First, the water in the showers and sink requires you to push the handle to keep the water activated. Totally fine and normal for a sink, but in the shower it was a weird experience that didn’t really allow you fully be able to handle cleaning yourself while also keeping the water running - didn’t love this. Then, one morning my boyfriend and I went down to get breakfast that apparently ended at 10:30 (which nobody informed us of) and even though the food was all still out on the table to grab we asked if we could pay and grab a few things quickly before they cleaned it up but were told that it wasn’t allowed…even though it was all literally still out and nobody was cleaning it up at all. Lastly, the welcoming vibe that you hope most hostels have to encourage making friends was almost nonexistent. There just didn’t feel like a good place to mingle with other travelers. Overall, the accommodations were fine and it’s a great location, but I personally wouldn’t stay here again for these few reasons.

Overall this was a great stay. We booked a private room since this was our first time staying in a hostel. The room was clean and nicely set up. The room came with a queen bed, desk space, and a sink. There was also a ac and heating space units provided. The windows had wood shutters that shut out light completely, which was nice. The bathrooms were fairly clean. When we arrived there was someone in there cleaning. But when we went to shower that night, there were nats in the shower stalls. That was the only negative of this stay.

The kitchen space is dingy and small for such a large space but the living areas are well lit and spacious. The rooms were so hot so it was quite hard to sleep at night, you can rent a small portable fan for 5 euros but it doesn't do too much to help with the heat. It is super hot these days but it is actually healthier we can sweat a little in this season so detoxification can have opportunities to work naturally. I guess cleaning staff couldn't make it (I stayed from 22pm till 6am) on time. Not a big complaint but still, it was a little disgusting. On the other side, the separated showers with plenty of space to change and to shower is really nice. Aswell as the spacious rooms (shared with 8 people but feeling like I was alone thanks to the arrangement and the size of the room). I would like to try it again in the future, for a ñittle longer :)

My stay at Away Hostel had left a great impression for me during this trip. The staff was very friendly (one of the staff members spoke Korean, which I thought was funny and kind) and the hostels were kept very clean. I've stayed in maybe four hostels in France and this was by far the tidiest. The rooms were wide and squeaky clean, which I appreciated. Being that the city was Lyon and not Paris, it was hard to find any shady characters and the neighborhood also felt very safe. All in all, this was a great hostel.

I loved this hostel! The location is great, really central and in the middle of some great restaurants and bars, also perfect for daily touristic things. The rooms are big, good constructed just a bit dusty, the bathrooms were really clean. The best part about my stay was the breakfast! They have a pancake station, were you can make yourself pancakes and top them with chocolate, jam and/or fruits. Besides that, they have bread, cheese and ham, butter, jam, eggs, vegetables, yoghurts and granola and of course coffee & tea. I will absolutely come pack for my next stay in Lyon!
