It's a pity that I won't visit this nice place due to the arrogant bartender-manager. The environment is nice, the cocktails are nice, the waiter is nice. But an accident happened and the behavior of the owner was awful. The drinks from the table next to us dropped, while both my friend and the people next to our table were moving. My friend said "I am sorry", the people smiled and the waiter brought them 2 new cocktails...which he billed to our table without even asking or at least informing us! We could have not money, the drinks might have been finished already, the people on the next table were moving as well... When we talked with the manager, he said that we are right because nobody really saw it, but we should still pay for the drinks, because otherwise he should pay. He didn't even agree to at least split the amount. Of we were informed, we would of course agree to share the cost! Oh well, on the bottom line, good cocktail bars are much more than good cocktails and Mr Smith is more of a Mr in the decoration of the bar than in reality. My friends and I left the bar deeply disappointed.

What a wonderful place! I can't give sufficient praise about this speakeasy that's sufficient. Let's start with the entrance. I walked a block because I didn't understand the entrance. Only only on my way out I recognized the obvious hint of the cocktail shaker door handles. Second, the host was such a friendly and cheerful guy. We both felt completely welcomed when we entered the place. Third, I expected it to be much bigger but the underground location was very cozy and stylish. Last but not least; the drinks. Come on. So much choice and all a treat for your tongue. I highly recommend the SquarePants. It's a whole experience. Besides that I had a wonderful first date. Lots of that was due to visiting mr. Smith 😌

I want to be like Mr. Smith! Lovely underground (literally and figuratively) place. Take the recommendation of the bartender and server. I like to explain my style and preferences and let the bartender be creative, or recommend something creative and maybe not onthe menu. In this case I was not disappointed. The drinks hit on all points…spicy and smoky then smooth and refreshing. Sure they were a little pricy, but you get what you pay for! The vibe was relaxing and welcoming. Reservations are recommended and we used WhatsApp to text. They book in 2 hr increments which was plenty of time to sip on 2 cocktails. I’d recommend sitting at the bar if it’s an option (it was not for us because it was not open). But, it looks like fun to watch them make drinks and talk with each bartender. Cheers!

Really nice cocktail bar, definitely a different experience in a classical horeca city. In other words Close your eyes and think of New York. Cocktails are great, but be aware that the price is quite steep but definitely worth it. Service is great, cool speak easy vibe

Be prepared to be lost in the street looking for the place - don't miss out the door nº55 with the buzzer for drinks! One of the best "to-do" in Maastricht. Starting with the "secret bar" experience, to the friendly and experienced service that gave us many recommendations and was really fast on delivering the drinks. Regarding these ones, were extremely well done, and suitable for the price, served with some snacks. The place itself is a basement with vintage items and small tables. Perfect for a date, pre-drinks, or just a cocktail night. Truly recommend!

Excellent Speak Easy Cocktail Bar! Style, Quality, Decor, Atmosphere, Cocktails, Service, all 10/10. Ruben, Erin and Tess made me fell so welcome and entertained! Certainly the number 1 place for a cocktail in Masstricht and i would imagine Netherlands 🇳🇱

This speakeasy bar was very cool! The service was great, the atmosphere is cozy and we loved the drinks. Our favorite was the tea kettle gin drink. Amazing! You will definitely need a reservation.

Can not get enough of this place, me and my friends enjoy it every-time we go. From the cocktails to the service and the atmosphere its amazing. The cocktail are pricy compared to some places but worth it for sure. Some flavors are out there so I would recommend to ask the workers if you have concerns and are picky. They are also happy to help.

A wonderful speakeasy. Reserved a place in advance. Arrived on time and they breezed us into their lovely cavernous space. Everything was well thought through. The cocktails (and 1 mocktail) were delicious, the team great and welcoming. A great experience.

Try to text and reserve ahead a few days prior if able, especially big group. If it’s just yourself and another person you may get lucky showing up right when they open for a seat no reservation. Patiently wait at door for them to answer as it gets busy and could take a minute. Highly recommend sitting at bar and watching these mixologists in their craft. All of your senses will be touched. True professionals and the drinks out of this world, way better than my experience in Amsterdam at a similar place. Anytime I visit Maastricht I always try to stop by Mr. Smith’s, amazing experience and great trying new drinks that will provide a nice break from the great Belgian beers in town. The bartenders are so friendly, explain drink creations, put on a show and most importantly love what they do as well as the people.

This is a cocktailbar, delicious cocktails. There are a lot different kind of cocktails and they are all good. It is a small place in the basement. One thing you have to know when you are planning to go for a drink… when you use the gps and you are at the place you will not see the signs.. you will recognize it on the door handle … it’s a must .. good to experience it. It’s better to make a reservation …. I would say … enjoy your drink!!!

I had a wonderful time at Mr. Smith! The host Huub was very friendly and really helpful in picking nice cocktails. Unfortunately I do not know the bartender's name but he was able to make me an amazing off-menu paloma! Also the barrel-aged cocktail tasted very good! Thank you Mr. Smith for creating such an amazing cocktailbar for us to try and experience.

Reserved in advance, and literally thought they were closed when I arrived…a truly hidden gem, secret bar…with amazing cocktails and a different experience. It is a cocktail bar so do not expect to drink anything else.

I can just discribe this as utterly marvelous. This place is such a experience. The moment you step in you feel welcome and like entering a new world. Amazing speakeasy atmosphere and incredible matching furniture/design. Very tasty, experimental and innovative cocktails at a decent pricepoint. I mean it’s not the cheapest cocktail, but definitely worth any penny. Been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Can recommend any cocktail lover to come by and enjoy an this amazing bar!

Best cocktail bar in Maastricht. Great environment inside and a great range of cocktails, can be a bit pricey but is a cosy place, great for a small group or date. They do give some snacks with the drinks but unfortunately the popcorn seemed a bit stale, nevertheless we were there for drinks and they were great!

I've always had a nice time here! Drinks are ~12 euro each, which now during inflation is very good. Quality, creative drinks, great service and a nice atmosphere. Although the music is often too loud

We booked two seats for two hours in advance and I would recommend to do so as the place was full. You need to find the place with the 55 house number as no external indication is provided on the house façade, except on the doorbell « Press for drinks ». Welcomed by the host we went to the basement for a nice atmosphere, design an terrible cocktails. I would personally recommend the « Nanas », spicy with jalapeños inside. Surprising but very good. Service is very nice and makes recommendations based on your taste.

Such a great place ! Makes you feel like a VIP because it is a bit hidden. There is no sign outside that tells you there is a bar. The barman was fun and let us make our cocktails ourselves after showing it to us. Recommends to everyone

It's hard to decide what was better, the service or the cocktails. Sadly we were only there for 2 hours so we could only try 4. All tasted excellent. The waitress was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. I've seen some reviews complaining about prices, but I had to pay less than expected. I will definitely come back during my next visit to Maastricht.
