a total letdown - wasted time and money - stay away! It was supposed to be a nice and relaxed dinner at the end of our Mauritius vacation, so we asked Google about nice restaurants nearby and based on the reviews we selected Les Copains d'Abord and went there. Already at the annoyed look of the young waitress when asking for a table, one should have listened to one's gut feeling and turned around. The restaurant was moderately busy and filled up with tourists as the evening progressed. Ordering was not easy, steak and anything to do with beef was not available that evening, soft drinks had to be clarified with the counter first. Well, it can happen, no problem, then something from the Mauritius kitchen - as starters octopus salad and fried chicken, as well as vegetarian tempura from the specially advertised veggie menu. First letdown - the octopus salad was just salty, the fried chicken wasn't crispy and the tempura batter wasn't done.. we had to ask for napkins, the second beer was put out as a bottle (no problem at all in a beach bar, but not in a restaurant advertised as elegant). For the main course we had chosen local curry (chicken and shrimp and vegetarian) and grilled squid - you can get that hot and delicious on every corner in Mauritius - but unfortunately not in Le Copains d'Abord - the rice was overcooked but cold and the curry lukewarm, but with a strange taste. The grilled squid was not through but raw inside so 3 times inedible. With our request for help, the three young ladies working the waitresses were unfortunately completely overwhelmed - they suggested heating the food again... the phone call with the owner was unfortunately not characterized by any solutions or hospitality, instead of being accommodating, they threatened to call the police, should I do not want to pay or only partially. Conclusion: For us a given evening-no recommendation. Here someone is resting on their old good reviews. Reviews and reality don't match. We recommend choosing another restaurant.

We went this place based on our driver advice (Hafiz) .. the restaurant opens at 6 pm .. the service is good .. the chef was welcoming and patient to give us a brief for some dishes (since it's our first time with Mauritius' foods), he is so passionate about his special dishes and flavors! and the food latterly just met his artistic brief!! The food was really delicious and worth to try! Super and highly recommended! ✨

Fried Capitaine with Rice and Lentils! Was really yummy and the atmosphere is quite cosy even if you eating alone!

We had an amazing lunch here. Nice view of the bay of mahebourg .The staff is polite and looked after us. We had an awesome Mauritian meal. The lady owner is warm and welcoming and I can’t resist to come back. We give this a restaurant a thumb up

Our first proper meal out on our first visit to Mauritius and this has made us really delighted for what is to come. The location is lovely, the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was utterly delicious. We are really hoping to have more meals at this restaurant during our stay. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful place on the Mahebourg waterfront, serving a good variety of food and drinks, a very nice ambience and sweet staff that goes out of its way to make the experience memorable. We were a group of 3 friends who visited for dinner and liked the food and feel so much we came back for lunch. Had very tasty vegetarian food as well.Has such a quaint vibe to it, would definitely recommend visiting if you want a relaxed, non touristy, pleasant meal by the waterfront in Mahebourg.

The food and service at Copains d'Abord was excellent! The crab was super fresh with a delicious garlic butter sauce. Really enjoyed the authentic octopus curry too. There's a beautiful view of the waterfront and prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend 👍🏾

The worst restaurant experience ever. No service at all with a lady owner not listening to what we wanted to say. Waited 1 hour for the starters and another 1 hour for the main dish. 🤮😡🤬 ⛔️NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL ⛔️

Good food and lovely view The restaurant has a fresh seafood. The food was really nice and full of flavor. The seafood platter was good and so was the captain and corne fish. Amazing kind of food presentation on our plate. As they say we eat first with the eyes

Really tasty Indian food in a quiet restaurant near the seafront. We had the octopus curry and a side of tempura prawns and the portion sizes were big enough that this easily filled two people. The curry was really tasty and came with a delicious black lentil daal. The tempura prawns were equally fantastic. Service was fairly quick and there were loads of seats when we visited on a Monday lunchtime. We were given complimentary coconut sweets and fruity rum after the meal.

Great place with the sea view. I really liked sea food: everything was fresh and tasty. Local sea bass with coconut sauce and pineapple was just amazing!

We went to the open air market right next to this restaurant. It was a bit hot and we wanted a bit of shelter while we waited to meet up with another member of our group. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas. They have indoor seating too with wide open gated windows. It started raining heavily and we had to move two tables from back because the rain was getting in. We ordered the calamari steak meal with fries and the breaded chicken. The table next to us ordered the seafood platter for two which was massive. The restroom are clean. There is a clothing store inside it which was a bit odd. We didn’t check it out. They charged our lunch twice so we needed to ask them to re-do the bill. My father-in-law grew up in town and comes to this place regularly for meals.

Wonderful restaurant. The food was really really good. I ate a Tempura Prawns as a starter and a fish dish with coconut milk as a main course. And we got at great gift on the house, a delicious Rhum with a piece of chocolate with that. The Rhum was so nice in taste like a dessert. Thanks for a great dinner.

This restaurant is very nice, the food the staff and the Chef! Definitely looking for ways of coming back to the beautiful, peaceful Mauritius! The seafood was absolutely delicious, from corn fish to captain to octopus and lobster! I had it all and both myself and my Hubby loved it! Highly recommend
