A great open-air museum where the tribal life of the Basotho, the culture and also the architectural development from the 16th to the 20th century and the European influence become comprehensible. The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, is almost an integral part, otherwise you won't understand much. The staff, who take on different roles such as chief, advisor, medicine man or musician, make the guide's stories come alive. Recommendation!

Interesting history... from old traditional ways to modern traditional ways. Living museum... Friendly and enthusiastic staff, from the receptionist to the tour guide and those depicting life lived in the past. So much to see and to learn. The scenic route to get to the place is breathtaking .. It is unfortunate that the upkeep is not a priority with the government.

It's about the culture, history and heritage of the Basotho nation before the arrival of Jan van Riebeck. The place is currently under renovation

Great scenic place with great potential. Could be maintained better, though.

I am very disappointed, the place is closed and looks spooky. I don't understand why San parks does not take care of the Basotho Heritage. I don't believe that corona has affected the business here, why are the other provinces e.g Mpumalanga, Kwa - Zulu Natal and the others are still functional. 🤔

Lovely experience. Got a real feel for how life has changed for the Basotho people. Got to taste a variety of foods. Worthwhile. Don't believe the scale on the map from Golden Gate, it is much further than expected but well sign-posted.

It's inside the golden gate national park. But not worthy at all. There's not much maintenance at this place. Also it was smelling a lot. We just came out immediately after going inside for 5 min. I've heard a lot about this place from other friends who visited 5 years ago, it's nothing like what they said.

I learnt a lot about the History of Basotho people. What amazes me is that in their culture it's men first. And during the tour they observed that. And in the olden days, they raise children as a community. I loved the tour. You pay R60 entrance

Very disappointed as this is another tourist cultural icon that is showing a lot of neglect. Paint and plaster peeling off walls, paths and roads overgrown with weeds and grass. Apart from the high view point, we would not return. Very sad 😔

Beautiful place to experience the Basotho culture from the 1800 to currently. You get to interact with the culture at first glance and hand. Our tour guide was so welcoming and helpful he made our experience worth while. You get to test food and drinks the Basotho people eat. This place in the Golden Gate National Park a spectacular site with Beautiful views leading to Clarens. This tourist attraction is close to the Amphitheater of the Drakensburg mountain known as the Maloti mountain in Sesotho.

Please if you are in the area visit the Basotho Cultural village. The are more suited to accommodate big school or tourist groups but we couls see enough of what it was about. We had some of there traditional cuisine tripe and dumplings (which was a bit different for our Capetonian tastebuds) which I could enjoy. Lovely friendly staff.

We heard about this via previous visitors. Why not more attention is given to marketing, amazes me because it is a great experience. Loved having been made part of the tour. Very informative. Very pleasantly surprized tastings.

Very informative tour by a knowledgeable guide full of Sotho cultural practices. Highly recommend. Some of the buildings and structures can now do with a good revamp

Very interesting, informative, living history. Keep supporting it! Guides were good. I think it is under-used. Gives a good insight into consequence of invasion, making peace and continuing to exist as a culture, a story being enacted around the world at the moment so the story of the Basotho people has relevance for all cultures today

It's a beautiful place, nice mountain view but the facility is not maintained good. The were no tissues in the bathroom, there were no lights outside at night and one driveway in and out. But still a beautiful place to see.

Good insight into the way of life of the Basotho tribe. We had a very friendly and competent guide and met very committed people. We had a tour for the two of us and didn't have to wait. There is a point deduction because some things could be renovated again.

The "village" was deserted, parking overgrown with weeds, generally unkept and not open to the public? Waste of time.

Much quieter than the main camp. The kitchen is hard work but the shower is wonderful. Warm bed and peaceful. I recommend this if you are going to stay in this area.

Sadly we did not experience anything unique or really worthwhile to recommend a visit, as the focus appeared to only be on making money from visitors rather than pride in sharing culture and historical knowledge, unlike some other centers and / or museums where truly passionate people were going out of their way to share their ancestry... but decide for yourself

Was unfortunately closed, but managed to see the museum. Beautiful area to explore

We were unable to take the tour around the village as it is not operational. Most of the products to purchase were iut of stock. But it is a nice place, pity we couldn't see much of it

For the nature and traditional South African people who are into exploring and learning more about different cultures, this is an amazing place to go to to learn more about the Basotho people. A place willed with heritage, beautiful scenery, calmness and wonderful atmosphere

It can improve, not much products available in Curio shop. Tour guide was busy with another group. Tickets for Tour can be purchased in Curio shop. Basotho ladies selling their hand made items outside which is beautiful.

The Basotho Cultural Village is situated in the majestic Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The staff were warm and welcoming. The guides were busy, but they kindly arranged for another staff member, Steve, to be our guide. Steve was informative and gave us a comprehensive tour which included a history of the Basotho people. The inhabitants of the village were friendly and gave the tour an authentic feel. We witnessed the chief arbitrating a court case. We had a consultation with the village healer and taste-tested traditional food and drink. We also learned some Basotho etiquette and basic greeting phrases. We could take pictures and videos of the experience. The most memorable part of the visit was the musical piece rendered by a duo with accordion and traditional percussion instrument. The property has hutted accommodation, a conference centre and a restaurant where we enjoyed the most divine scones with tea. This was well worth the visit. Well done staff of Basotho Cultural Village!
