The location is GREAT! Like, you're right in the heart of the city centre, it doesn't get much better than that. My room was on the ninth floor, so I had a great view of the city skyline. The environment is pretty clean, reception staff were very helpful to me, and the complimentary breakfast is a big plus, with a reasonable variety of selections of food. Ranging from bacon, eggs, baked beans, and others in a buffet. My main issues were with Room service. The staff were quite mannerless, one of them literally entered my room without being asked to come in, at an uncomfortable time. That was extremely infuriating, and she was unapologetic. Additionally, the elevator kept doing this thing where it would randomly get stuck. That was a mild inconvenience. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here.

Dirty hotel that is falling apart. Avoid at all costs. Breakfast is rubbish. It is bad to the point if being comedic. Everywhere you turn there will be something broken. I've read a lot of the other reviews and the negative points were my experience. Interesting to see the replies from Holiday Inn corporate saying these issues are important (going back months). Obviously not important to do anything about it £££££££ It's a budget hotel so my expectations were low, but this goes beyond the joke. Staff very friendly, I feel sorry for them working here.

Great staff..... can not fault them at all. The room was vile. First we were put a disabled room when neither of us were in need of it. The bathroom was disgusting the hand rails were vile. The bed had a leg off that we fixed ourselves and the mattress was cheap and nasty. The tea station first was hidden we nearly missed it, but the found it covered in tea or coffee along with the wall beside it. I had the worst night sleep ever and the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. Never ever will I stay here again. I feel so sorry for the staff because they were honestly the only reason I it doesn't get a lower rating and its not fair on them.

The some of the staff were friendly but only one lift was working with no explanation for the inconvenience and long waits in the evening and morning. The windows in the room were so dirty, you couldn't see out very well. The lock to the bathroom was broken and there was no ventilation in the room and the controller was also broken. Not enough pillows in the room and the sofa bed was uncomfortable for our daughter to sleep on. The hotel although not that old, looks tired. All for a £200 one night stay. Please consider the various other options in the area.

Just checking out of here, for the price the room was lovely, nice new looking bathroom and comfy bed. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for what we paid, cereals, croissants and cooked. Only downside was the girl on reception. Having worked in a public facing career for many years, I know how important it is to be bright, friendly and smiley. On going for breakfast we were met with someone yawning her head off. No smile or good morning greeting. There was nowhere to sit in the breakfast area for two so we sat near the lifts. When we went around to get breakfast she was staring at her phone! By the lift area there was a drink machine but no spoons so back to the other side for collection of spoon. After looking for sugar I asked where it was, i was told on the tables. As there were none on the tables where we were sat I took the bowl of sugar from a table in the other side. She watched me but didn't bother having the bowl replaced or offer to have one fetched to my table. It shouldn't matter what the cost, good manners and professionism are what customers will remember

The only positive about this hotel was the location, right in the centre of the Manchester with security at the doors even through the night. However, the rooms were untidy: stains on my daughters bedding and pillow, the carpet, hairs in the shower; the bed side table had been ripped off the wall and replaced with a stool; there was no air conditioning in our room and it was extremely hot, even at 15C outside. It was great that they were able to store our luggage safely as we arrived early but when we returned 1 hour later than the check in time, we were still made to wait for a room. It was understandable the breakfast ended early at 9:30am due to it being a weekday but when we came down for breakfast at 8:50 there was nothing and had to eat elsewhere in Manchester despite paying for the breakfast at the hotel. Considering I payed £160 per night, we were very disappointed and did not think it was worth the cost.

I was a bit dubious about booking due to the reviews I read prior to booking. I can honestly say the customer service on arrival was exceptional from a very friendly guy called Mohammed. The rooms are Cosy and the location is great. I’m a Diamond elite member and was very impressed with customer service and cleanliness of the hotel. I will definitely return.

Hotel was amazing! It had everything most other hotels would have, rooms had hot drinks making facilities, good sized bathroom and a TV. The view from the rooms is good in certain rooms, it is right in the city centre, so you won't have much travelling to do. The reason I removed a star is the breakfast wasn't the freshest, but as you know this is a hotel for those on a budget. The main thing is, the staff did their best to provide for you with what they had.

Ideally located on the door step of Oxford Road Railway Station. The check in process was fast (be prepared for a £50 deposit to be taken even though the room was paid in full before arrival) Then it was all downhill, two very slow lifts which dont sync with each other took us to our room. The bathroom floor in said room was a trip hazard (Room 101) how this was not picked up by house keeping staff is beyond me. After bringing this issue up we were shown to another room, this room was not to the brands usual standard either. The floor clearly had not been hoovered and the bed sheets and sofa bed were also stained, the bathroom sink tap was covered in limescale and I believe there is some serious room for improvements in housekeeping here. We stuck out the second room as we were only staying for a night. Breakfast the next morning was painful, no bacon, thin watery beans, cheap sausage (not the usual Holiday Inn Express ones either) and a container of mushed up hash browns. I expected budget when I booked but for the ££ paid I think there is some improvements to be made. The staff we encountered were friendly and trying there very best to work with what they have, but the state of the rooms & breakfast was a serious let down and I dont think we will use this property for our next visit.

The lift wasn’t working, they had run out of double rooms and after pushing gave me a disabled access room with a double bed. The bathroom was very tired and one of the bedside lights didn’t work. On the plus side it was in a very convenient spot and the breakfast was lovely.

Terrible service from the staff that ignore your e-mails when you ask that you need proforma invoice for the payment in advance. Fire alarm at 7.00 AM. Lifts that need to be reprogrammed. Dust in room everywhere. Breakfast with just 4-5 items. Internet is not working in the room, absolute disaster from beginning to the end. All for over 400€ for 3 nights. One of the worst, when not the worse hotel experience ever!

20 minutes walk to centre, 100 yards from nearest train station. Rooms clean and basic. Breakfast had a good selection but always crowded. I asked for an iron and it arrived within a few minutes. Taking the lift was a bit if a wait. Very good for a budget hotel.

This place is a bit of a mixed bag. With some effort from. management it could score better POSITIVES I was working at the Manchester Central Convention Centre for a few days. The hotel is reasonably priced and is in walking distance of the Convention Centre. The area, although full of pubs and bars felt safe. The room (902) was fine, plenty of room but nowhere safe to leave laptops etc. Parking is in a Europark car park Called York Street Car Park in Pritchard Street off Castle Street which runs perpendicular to the hotel. The price for car parking is very reasonable, about £9 for 24 hours and you can pay for several days at a time. See my notes below though!! The car park is big, is well lit and feels very safe even at night (the car park at the convention centre has terrible reviews) NEGATIVES The bathroom was not clean (see my photos). Housekeeping really need to look at this as it is long term sloppiness rather than a one off missed corner. There were stains on the carpet and stains on the settee. For me the breakfast was poor. Everything is cooked in vast quantity then left the swelter in steamy dishes. The scrambled egg is the usual awful hotel stuff, the sausages full of filler and the bacon dried up and miserable. I love a cooked breakfast but his was in no way special and verging on unpleasant. The fruit juice is made up in a dispensing machine which often just churns out water. The toaster is set so low that your bread has to go through twice but it soon becomes apparant that this is because everyone tries to put croissants through and sets fire to them (despite the big sign on top of it saying don't do it). So then they have to switch it all off and open all the windows to get rid of the smoke. Note to Holiday Inn - why not offer warm croissants? My view was pretty poor, looking straight into the kitchens of the uni accomodation opposite. My tv remote control had no cover on the battery compartment which is both unhygenic and meant the batteries kept falling out. There were tiles lifting at the bathroom door The shower leaks and floods the floor a bit The window vent desperately needs cleaning - no one has looked at this for months!! see photo Beware on car parking - you need to pay at the machines by the entrance to get the hotel's special rate, you don't get the reduced rate if you pay by phone, you need to press the hotel button on the machine first to get this rate and if you have a van you seem to pay a different rate (£20 per day). I messed this up and the parking company have still failed to respond to my message several days later so I may yet have a fine to fight about. The car park is a loose stone open area between buildings. It is large but some of the turns are very tight if it is busy and you have a van. Your vehicle will be covered in grey dust at the end of your stay. The weird reception downstairs leaves an odd wasted space on the ground floor which makes it look unloved with security there to stop random people walking in off the street. The lifts are painfully slow.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was cool outside and the heater was in working order. Breakfast was excellent and the location was perfect. Walking distance to the train station and several eating spots.

The rooms are clean and functional. Very comfortable and quiet. The free breakfast is a bonus. We had a flickering light in our room. It was fixed very quickly. It is good to have an ac in summer. Would return again.

Location is amazing, close to the centre, station and great bus routes. Breakfast isn't particularly good, but plenty of places to eat vert close. Rooms were functional and bed comfortable, if a bit cold (though in fairness it was -9 outside when I was there). Overall though, for the price and location, would stay there again.

Ok, is probably the best rating for this hotel. Some small little things could improve it from just ok, but unfortunately these weren't done. Despite the room being booked way in advance it wasn't ready when we tried to check in at 2.30pm. yes we were half an hour early and we didn't mind waiting but it still wasn't ready at 3.00pm which was when we should have been able to check in. The person on reception "found" us a room that was ready and so we went to it. The room was spotless and clean, the sofa bed made up ready as we were staying at 2 adults and 2 children. The sofa bed wasn't particularly comfortable though and so it was a disturbed night's sleep for all. There was no chair for the dressing table despite there being plenty of space for one so this made getting ready quite difficult as there was no mirror on the desk to do hair/makeup. With the sofa being made up as a bed you couldn't sit there to get ready either. The room was extremely warm, and despite trying to turn it down with the wall controls it made no difference. The lifts were temperamental and didn't seem to work all the time. Breakfast was a waste of time. It was mega busy which we expected as we weren't there first thing, however the availability of anything was limited. Food wasn't restocked quickly, cups/glasses weren't refilled promptly and the tables weren't cleaned very quickly between guests leaving meaning that there was a wait for a table too. Not wanting to completely run the place down the location is great, we were there for a night at the palace theatre and it was spot on location wise for that. Parking was good value too for town centre parking. Just a few little tweaks could really make this hotel great, but unfortunately for us it wasn't that case for our stay.

Good central location, stayed here as we were visiting the theatre nearby. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice. There isn’t a wide variety but considering it is included in the price of the room it is enough. The only thing about breakfast is the lack of dining space leading guests to have to use the seating around the corner outside of the dining space. The beds were comfy in the room and the room was clean but the negative was the fact the bathroom smelt of urine so we had to keep the door closed and not that this is a fault of the hotel but there was a person outside the hotel at around 11.30 with a boombox and we could hear it through the window so considering it’s on a buy Manchester street maybe the windows could do with being a bit thicker to block out the noise. Other than that it’s not a bad hotel and would probably stay here again.

My stay here was not bad some building works going on but sure that’s due to finish soon and one lift was not working. I arrived in the evening and was welcomed by security checking I had a booking and then allowed downstairs to check in but they seem to only be there during the evening. Reception The reception team was helpful and friendly when I checked in. And the guy that checked me out meet me with a big smile and made my morning so thank you Room Was very surprised on the size of the room. The ac was not working so heaters where there in case I needed them. Overall the cleaning of the room was to a good standard. If you need an iron board they only have limited so need to request one. Overall it’s a nice hotel and only a short walk from the station. There is a Sainsbury’s local near by if needed and a theatre so if staying a few night then book a show. There are also several pubs near by if you fancy a change of scenery for a drink. Also the gay village is a short walk from the hotel if you visiting for pride.

Overall rating 7/10 Pros: Very fair price Reasonable basic breakfast Good location Comfortable bed Good sized sofa bed in the family room Cons X-small family room Can be bit cleaner Rooms were fairly cold Very thick duvets We stayed for two night between Xmas Eve and Boxing Day. We were mainly visiting family so only needed a place to sleep. It worked well for us as we didn’t spend much time in the hotel, and it was fairly priced. The complimentary breakfast was just about right to get a quick bite, basic fry up and some croissants. The location was good on Oxford road which is 10 minutes walk to the city centre and good transport links. Obviously there isn’t much to do around here as it’s mainly a student area. We stayed in a family room with two young children. The room was fairly small and once the sofa bed is open there was no space left at all. There was not a chair or dressing cupboard, just a slim hanging rail for a couple of coats and dresses. Our room was overlooking the canal, the window was grim and you can barely see through it. The room was clean with a clean bathroom, but clearly no one cleaned under the bed or the corners in a while. We arrived late the first night and the room was freezing, the central heating is centrally timed and controlled so we couldn’t put it on. Overall, it was what we expected for the price. Good enough for a couple of nights, but not longer than that. I wouldn’t personally come back, but I wouldn’t say I wouldn’t recommend it.

Good value. Very reasonable considering the brilliant central location. Only disappointment was extremely watered down orange juice at breakfast. It wasn't really in keeping with the rest of the high standard of the brilliant staff and the lovely accommodation. I would definitely recommend it.

It's literally round the corner from the 02 ritz I managed to walk to it with my bad back and legs it was perfect for me. It was clean and staff were friendly. The night security guy was lovely to us. Would definitely use the hotel again. Breakfast was good too plenty of choice.

Had to use the hotel due to a mix up with booking at another location. The staff especially Michael Eccles went out of there way to help can not thank them enough. The rooms were excellent, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent again nice and hot with an excellent choice, the only minor point which the hotel can not do anything about is the parking. But they have a deal with a car park which is less than 5 minutes away and £8.50 is very good value for 24 hour parking. If you are looking for a very clean hotel with excellent staff then this is the one for you

Staff were superb upon check in/out and breakfast. Rooms were very comfortable, with a good choice of lighting and enough plug socket access. Shower rooms were modern, good powerful shower, and plenty of hot water. The only things I could identify needing attention were; shower walls were done in black tiles with grey grout, upon inspection the grouting was covered in black mould as it goes unnoticed by cleaners, and the shower tray needed unblocker pouring down the waste trap as water took ages to drain away. All in all a very good stay, no hesitation about returning.

Really good hotel with a central location near the University. The rooms are immaculate and spacious with all mod cons required. The breakfast was great with so many different options. The staff are all lovely and very helpful, especially the night security man who took the time to chat with me early in the morning as I couldn't sleep. I really appreciated that. The only issue I have is the lifts. 2 very small lifts for such a big hotel was just very unpractical as most of the time I had to use the stairs as when the lift landed on my floor it was full. This happened most of my stay.

  • 4/5 Jen P. 2 years ago on Google
It wasn't terrible, but it was a good price, and you do get what you pay for. Travelled in for work; checking in and out was easy, the staff are lovely. The hotel is conveniently located, has the basic amenities you need, but you can tell it's a bit old - small, creaky lifts; old and slightly noisy air conditioning units. The room I stayed in faced the back of the building so I wasn't subject to any street noise. All in all, a decent experience.

Came to Manchester for academical purposes. The hotel is well located, around 5 to 10min walk from the University of Manchester main campus. The arrival and check in were done promptly. There is a card key for the room, which is needed to activate the room lights. The room is wide and of great ambience, didn't feel any cold during the night - also the A&C doesn't seem to be noisy, which was great. But, there was a very weird noise appearing now and then, which i think that it was from some sort of a pipe, when people flushed the toilet? Also, could hear banging of doors, loud chatting on the corridors and the elevator arrival sound - perhaps something for the hotel management to sort, regarding sound proof?! Bed and pillows were very comfy. The legs of the bed were very wobbly, seemed that it was going to break. There is a power socket next to the bed. Had english breakfast which was simple and without many choices. The check-out was done quick. Overall, felt a bit overpriced.
