Manisa is a tired city, leaning on the Sipil Mountain, with an old castle on its shore, which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. It is a city where historical monuments cannot be preserved, cannot attract tourism, and is neglected. The sarcophagi you see show 2000 years of Roman art. These sarcophagi, which contain magnificent craftsmanship and artistry, are so beautiful that they amaze those who see them in the dilapidated garden where they are located.

Well... Every city should have a museum, right? A well-established old settlement like Manisa should have a much larger museum.

Epicrates' 116-line will welcomes you at the entrance of the museum. Immediately on the right, there is the Ethnography section, which consists of sculptures and inscriptions mostly from the Roman period, as well as daily items used during the Ottoman period. You can also see the footprint of a Neanderthal human found in Salihli, dating back to 25000 BC, in this section. It is a pity that the archeology department, where the most valuable artifacts are located, is closed. Hoping to open soon...

Here is the new Manisa Arkeoloji Müzesi. It's closed. It would open in April 2023, so I was told here in November 2022. However, I don't see any sign of activity via www a year later.....

(Translated by Google) From the Bronze Age to the end of the Byzantine Period, the Archaeological Museum, where other items such as sculptured sarcophagi, earthenware pots, figurines, tombstones, mosaics, busts, jewellery, glass and ivory are located, and weapons, clothing reflecting the traditions, customs, beliefs and lifestyles of the people. I definitely recommend you to see the Ethnography museum, where you can find home goods and manuscripts. (Original) Bronz Çağdan Bizans Dönemi sonuna kadar heykel lahit gibi parçalar, , toprak kaplar, heykelcikler, mezar taşları, mozaikler, büstler, takılar , cam ve fildişi gibi diğer eşyaların yer aldığı Arkeolaji müzesi ve Halkın gelenek, görenek, inanç ve yaşam biçimini yansıtan silah, giysi, ev eşyaları ve el yazmalarının bulunduğu Etnografya müzesini mutlaka görmenizi öneririm.
