The Maiden Tower (Kiz Kulesi in Turkish) is erected on a small islet at the southern approach of the Bosporus Strait. The islets was used for different reasons along the history of Constantinople/Istanbul. From a defence point to Lighthouse to quarantine center. The tower we see today replaced a larger one that was destroyed in an earthquake and a fire. The Maiden Tower witnessed many works of restorations, the last one was done in 1998 to prepare it for shooting some scenes in james Bond's film The World Is Not Enough. From Uskudar, on the eastern side of Istanbul, the boat trip takes few minutes (15 min.) to the tower. Today, the tower serves as a cafe and a restaurant with a 360 degree view of Istanbul. The outer terrace can be rented for parties. Prices are fair, considering you are having your drink or meal in such a beautiful piece of history.

Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi) is a small tower on a small island at the southern entrance to the Bosphorus, about 200 meters from the coast of Uskudar in Istanbul. It was said about the reason for its construction, that there was a sultan who loved his daughter very much, and he had a dream that on his daughter’s eighteenth birthday, she would be bitten by a snake and take her life. The father did not find a way to protect his daughter except to keep her away from dry land, as he blocked part of the Bosphorus Strait, and built a tower for her in an attempt to eliminate the possibility of any snake reaching her.

General information The objective called by the inhabitants of Istanbul (Turkey) the Virgin's Tower is known by Europeans as the Leandros Tower. Used over time as a lighthouse, it was transformed into a cafe. This 1250-square-meter building is built on a rocky island 200 meters offshore in front of the Salacak district of Usküdar. From the place of the layer Wherever it was, the Tower of the Virgin was the silent witness to events throughout history. For hundreds of years, he has also been the source of inspiration for countless poets and writers. Personal information: I wholeheartedly recommend. I can simply say that the atmosphere is very pleasant and quiet, with a unique view of the Salacak neighborhood. The location is very elegant and romantic, having at the same time a pleasant impact mainly on couples.

A place accessible by boat, on the Asian side. You don't have to wait a long time for your transportation because the boats go and come back every 10-15 minutes. A pleasant location.

Kiz Kulesi a beautiful piece of history in the heart of the Bosphorus. You'll get there by using a little ferryboat and nowadays this tower is a restaurant where once an Ottoman Sultan locked up his daughter according to what the legend says. When you look at Kiz Kulesi from the shore, you'll see Aya Sofia on the left and the Blue Mosque on the right, way in the back, a beautiful sight. Whenever in Istanbul... definitely worth your visit.

It’s a great place, especially for a romantic walk at the Bosporus. Looks great at night from Asian side looking at the tower whilst across Bosporus you see all the sightseeing highlights. I don’t recommend the restaurant. Although it is a nice experience to be taken by boat and the interior is nice, the food is below average for a high price. Very sad, as its just focusing on tourists and do not serve the service and food experience, a romantic dinner deserves.

Beautiful This building Used as a symbol for the great city of Istanbul, ‏the Old story of building this beautiful tower: An ancient king dreamed about his lovely daughter death by a snake bite so he decided to isolate her in the middle of the sea far away from any risk ‏he built the tower and put her there ‏unfortunately the girl died when she received a gift as a basket of fruits with a snake hiding inside it and the snake attacked the beautiful girl . People use this story to remember that what ever you do you will never be able to avoid your destiny Any how it is very romantic to watch it from Üsküdar in Asian side of the City

A beautiful place to relax and enjoy. Nice spot to take a good photos. As it is by sea there are a lot of seagulls that you can feed and play whit them. You can get here from European side when you take ferry on Kabatas - Besiktas station and take walk by the sea on Asian side (approximately 20 min). Unfortunately when I was there it was closed for tourist because of renewal.

Inspiration for numerous legends (the name also) and place where famous movies where filmed. Actually, this was a customs office for ships travelling through Bosphorus, but later an interesting legend spread about a maiden whose father built this tower to protect her from grace prophecy that she will die from a snake bite. Unfortunately, when she turned 18 she was bitten by a snake which was hidden in a food basket and died.

This is one of my very favourite places in Istanbul and it's really worth the money to go there. Doesn't matter if during the day or during the night - always just terrific and amazing! I've made my marriage proposal to my wife there and the staff in there has been really helpful and supporting. Private table at night covered with rose petals and the full menu and great pictures during the proposal afterwards! But to go there during the night you need to make a reservation via call or via app - so if you just want to visit and see the beauty and mark of Istanbul I'd recommend you to go there during the day - night is quite expensive. All in all - I assure you wouldn't regret going to the beautiful and great Maiden's Tower!

One of the best “look out” spots in Istanbul, it so happens to have a very warm and romantic feel to it too. It cost 30TL for the tickets, a water taxi drops you off at the tower where u can enjoy a lovely meal at the ground level resturant for a reasonable price, enjoy a cuppa at the top cafe or just walk up to enjoy the spectacular view. It’s worth mentioning that as you climb up the stairs you can read the stories and myths associated with the tower. If you’re someone who appreciated history, a great view and a warm cuppa that’s the place for you!

Bugün görülen kulenin temelleri ve alt katın önemli kısımları II. Mehmed devri yapısıdır. Kulenin etrafındaki sahanlık geniş kaplanmıştır. Üstündeki madalyon halindeki bir mermer levhada, kuleye şimdiki şeklini veren Sultan II. Mahmud'un, Hattat Rasim’in kaleminden çıkmış 1832 tarihli bir tuğrası vardır.

It was a really amazing experience to grab a cocktail and drinks up in the top of the tower. They have a decent variety of liquors and a few non-alcoholic beverages as well. Prices weren't cheap but also weren't crazy expensive. Our bartender was very friendly and was helping us learn some Turkish. We loved the relaxed vibe inside and it felt great to feel the strong sea breeze that came through the windows as we drank our drinks. The boat / ferry picks up directly across the bay on the asian side of Istanbul. The cost of entry during normal "public" hours is 40 Lira for the boat and entry.

Kiz Kulesi or The Maiden's Tower was built in 1725 on the small islet near Uskudar on Asian coast of Istanbul. It was the Era of the Tulips in the Ottoman Empire. Although on the Florentine map of Constantinople made in 1422, we can see the lighthouse on that island. Bosphorus, Istanbul, 🇹🇷 Turkey 🇹🇷. April 30, 2023.

This island, which first hosted a tomb in the Greek period, was used as a customs station with the additional building built in the Byzantine period. In the Ottoman period, many functions were loaded from the show platform, the defense castle, the exile station to the quarantine room. The Maiden's Tower, which is its main duty, has never lost its function of guiding people with its existence for centuries and to guide the passing ships at night with its lighthouse. The Maiden's Tower was restored in 2000 and turned into a place where cutlery sounds are heard. Transportation to the Maiden's Tower is made by boats from Salacak and Ortaköy. The Maiden's Tower, which has a very old historical background, was once used to collect taxes from ships passing through the Bosphorus. A large chain was drawn along the European Side with the tower, and ships were allowed to pass between the Anatolian Side and the Maiden's Tower (at that time, the ship could pass because of its small size). After a while, the Tower could not carry the chain and collapsed towards the European Side. When looking into the water from the tower, its ruins are visible. The tower, known as Arkla (small castle) and Damialis (calf cub) in ancient times, became famous with the name of "Tour de Leandros" (Leandros's tower) for a while. Now it is integrated with the name of the Maiden's Tower and is called by this name. (Original) Üsküdar'ın sembolü haline gelen kule, Üsküdar’da Bizans devrinden kalan tek eserdir. After the naval victory at Cyzicus, the ancient Athenian general Alcibiades possibly built a custom station for ships coming from the Black Sea on a small rock in front of Chrysopolis (today's Üsküdar). In 1110 Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus built a wooden tower protected by a stone wall. From the tower an iron chain stretched across to another tower erected on the European shore, at the quarter of Mangana in Constantinople. The islet was then connected to the Asiatic shore through a defense wall, whose underwater remains are still visible.During the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, the tower held a Byzantine garrison commanded by the Venetian Gabriele Trevisano. Subsequently, the structure was used as a watchtower by the Ottoman Turks during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The tower, often named Leander's Tower in reference to the legend of Hero and Leander (which took place in the Dardanelles strait, also known as the Hellespont in antiquity), was destroyed during the earthquake of 1509, and burned in 1721. Since then it was used as a lighthouse, and the surrounding walls were repaired in 1731 and 1734, until in 1763 it was erected using stone. From 1829 the tower was used as a quarantine station, and in 1832 was restored by Sultan Mahmud II.Restored again by the harbour authority in 1945, the most recent restoration began in 1998 for the James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough, and steel supports were added around the ancient tower as a precaution after the 17 August 1999 earthquake. The interior of the tower has been converted into a café and restaurant, with views of the former Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman capital.Private boats make trips to the tower several times a day.

Maiden's Tower is a structure built on a small islet off Salacak offshore of the Bosphorus, close to the Marmara Sea, which is the subject of legends, about which various rumors are told. The tower, which has become the symbol of Üsküdar, is the only work remaining from the Byzantine period in Üsküdar. The tower, which has a historical history dating back to 24 BC, was established on a small island where the Black Sea meets the Marmara. Some European historians call it Leander Tower. There are many rumors about the tower. Evliya Çelebi describes the tower as follows: "It is an artfully built high tower on four corners in the sea, far from the land of an arrow shot. Its height is exactly 80 (eighty) cubits. Its surface is two hundred steps. It has doors from two sides." The foundations of the tower seen today and the important parts of the lower floor II.
