triple threat alert! they boast in Ramen, Coffee, and a Motorcycle Workshop! and they are serious about all three too! workshop is downstairs and the restaurant section is upstairs - i dont recall any lifts for those who had any physical disabilities ramen was delicious. hearty and rich in flavour. they get all their produce sourced locally too! they also do coffee workshops, so check out their page for deets!

Spacious upstairs, not a lot of people with large communal tables. I ordered the vegetarian The Monk Ramen and it was tasty and spicy! They didn't warn you about that. I can work here all day.

Was very impressed with Rising Sun Workshop, located above an actual workshop it has a classy industrial interior. The food is delicious and given attentive love from its chefs. The eggplant dip was perhaps one of the best dips I have had in the last year.

**Thanks for being open on Monday** Having had a big Sunday night, and feeling dusty the morning after, it was decided that ramen was the meal to heal. Unfortunately, as most know, not all restaurants trade on Monday. And all the other joints I frequent in the area were closed. I had known of Rising Sun for a while but never remembered to go. I was absolutely delighted by my first visit there. Big open spaces, high ceilings, large benches, cool workshop. And the ramen was stupendous - rich in flavour, decadent and perfectly cooked noodles. Nourishing to say the least. Will be back.

3.5 Stars. Really cool concept with the fully operational motorbike garage attached to the store! The food took some time to come out which was disappointing. I can see what they're trying to do with the menu, but I don't feel as though the food lives up to the expectation or price tag (which was also disappointing). With that being said, the quality was solid and I would love to come back one day. The service was great!

Had a delicious dinner at Rising Sun Workshop. The food is clever, skilfully made and creative without being too out there for the average diner. We loved all the smaller plates. Special mentions: the lotus root dumpling (wow!), abalone skewer (that butter), squid with native vegetables and squid ink sauce, and radish cake (amazing textures). The mains unfortunately weren't quite as on point. The nikujaga short rib was incredibly chewy. The Murray Cod served with pil pil meanwhile was muddy-tasting, which spoiled an otherwise elegant and light dish. Strong finish however with the chocolate parfait. Service was very friendly, if a little lacking at times. I think this is in part due to the restaurant layout where they have to frequently go downstairs to fetch food, while the upstairs area is quite vast. I'll definitely come back, and also to try the lunchtime ramens.

Rising Sun Workshop is located in a side street off King St, Newtown. Attached to a community funded garage that runs workshops where people can learn how to fix their motor bikes, this cafe is a cool space with its decor industrial and all things motorcycle. When you enter there is an open space with a garage totally separated from the cafe but allowing you to see all of the action. The cafe itself spans two storeys, with plenty of space upstairs. On our day of visit, around 10:30 it was pretty much full up. The cafe is operating via a QR system, where you order your food off the app and the staff deliver it to you. The staff are relaxed and friendly. The menu is predominately ramen and other Japanese influenced dish. On our visit, there were a number of dishes that got our attention. We opted for their signature dish, the breakfast ramen, which was superb. The breakfast ramen is not just a gimmick, it actually tastes like breakfast. Buttered toast broth with bacon, eggs and tomato. We added a side of corn to it. No wonder this dish is popular, can’t recommend it enough. In addition to this we had the Hirasmasa Kingfish Tataki, beautifully marinating in Japanese Mayo atop a yuzu pickled fennel and served with tapioca crisps. A light and refreshing option and a generous portion too. The coffee by single O was nice, and we had a few coffees with our brekkie, as well as a thick choc chip cookie! No wonder this place scored a one hat in the Good Food Guide!

This is such a cool Ramen shop - it’s actually integrated into a motorbike mechanic workshop. They keep the menu simple, but the Breakfast Ramen was insane - never had a broth that tastes like buttered toast but this one did. Would visit again.

Rising Sun Workshop is located in an odd and unassuming area of Newtown. I really liked the concept of the place with large work benches, gave it a real communal feel. Ordered the darkness which was really nice. The gyoza was on point and the scotch egg was also a winner. The flavours all worked well together. It's a small menu but I'll have to go back to try the other dishes!

I had the sausage and egg with milk bun for lunch today and I feel the burger was certainly enjoyable, however, I'm pretty sure you could find burgers like this in any other cafe.

First off, I wanna talk about the Gyoza. I'm reading the reviews and I think the Gyoza doesn't get enough attention because me and my friends agree that it's THE BEST GYOZA WE'VE EVER HAD! It's so tender and so soft and it melts into your mouth. The Light ramen was delicious! The broth and noodles were awesome and all the condiments such as the pork truly epitomises and upholds it's Light ramen name with such tenderness and softness. The Darkness ramen has a unique broth to it and although it was nice, I would much prefer the Light ramen. Although, The Darkness is there for your ramen adventures if you wanna try something a bit new with a sort of sweet taste to the broth. And of course, I have to mention the mushroom in both dishes. I don't know what mushroom it is but it wasn't my cup of tea. I found it to overpower whatever condiments I am having alongside the broth and noodles in the ramen. It was too sweet for me to belong there but if you can avoid that mushroom, I think that the Ramen would be fantastic. The service is great and are open to explaining the dishes on the menu. The vibe of the restaurant is pretty cool with a motorbike themed look, matching the motorbike repair shop downstairs. I found the toilet to be very unique as well by having a sink on the toilet. This would make it very convenient and it made it very cool. Also, this place is PERFECT for a catch up or meet up with a friend for lunch! PS: please please never remove the fuel levels on the ramen bowls. They are such a neat thing to look at and such fun!

The ramen was good, it had a really nice soft texture to the pork and the egg which made it unique, I also really enjoyed the noodles themselves. The taste itself was okay. I enjoyed it overall, it was mild and the more I ate it, the more I wanted to have more to it. It was pretty good but not the best.

hidden bike/ramen shop&cafe in Newtown!(behind Chemistwarehouse area). Machine Parking just next to the shop. interesting concept to have coffee and ramen. 1st floor has lots open seats, very spacious and cool!

would give service 100/5. they were utmost accomodating with allergies and food was so so yummy 💓💓 the chef came out and let me know he will clean the utensils and the servers were willing to help and make me feel comfortable

Loved it! The concept of the place was well thought-out and you'll see little details here and there that tie everything together. The ambiance and interior is top-notch! Works for casual catch-ups, couple lunch dates, and even work meetings -- everything! Everything was delicious and well-made: the mushroom sandwich and the Light Ramen (that was actually light) but the pork gyoza was the absolute winner for me! Honestly the best I've had by far! Although they have drinks, I'm not sure I would visit on an evening. As they are bit more expensive than usual and I'll be losing out on some great menu items.

Been here a few times, best ramen in Newtown but also great atmosphere in the still functional motorbike repair shop, love the little touches like the headlight suspended lights or fuel gauge inside the bowls. The Breakfast ramen is a great fusion dish, not a fan of grilled tomatoes and clearly not alone in that as "no tomato" is a menu option, along with adding pork belly that I highly recommend, some of the most flavourful pork belly I've eaten (and I look like a guy who's eaten a lot of pork..)

I liked the ramen I had roughly 3 years ago when I went to this shop. 1 got disappointed this time. It took an hour to serve the gyoza, which is cold. Imagine, the ramen was served a few more minutes after that. And one of the ramen we had is not warm. Mine was borderline warm to cold. Given their pricing to their ramen, the service could be better. Not coming back in the near future.

The order took a while and was happy to wait hoping it was worth it. However, I was underwhelmed. The Rising Sun Breakfast had a similar Kaiseki style but the portions were very tiny for the price.

Fantastic experience- food & ambiance. Cleverly located in a quiet side street off the very busy King Street, inside it’s an oasis of calm. They have a breakfast & lunch menu including a breakfast ramen, and a dinner menu. There’s a nice selection of Australian wines, by the glass / carafe / bottle. As it was a cold winters night most of our group went for “The Darkness” ramen - it was so rich and packed with complex flavour. Amazing. We also tried the gyoza (incredible) and the caraage chicken (nice). And the caramelised brussel sprouts were a revelation! Highly recommended!

First of all, Nice atmosphere and big restaurant, friendly staff but very poor hygiene. I got a table upstair where I could see kitchen clearly. I saw a Chef licking his fingers while he was preparing the food. Very Disgusting 🤮. Moreover, coffee wasn’t hot. Really disappointed.

The inside of the restaurant’s pretty cool with a bikes workshop in the corner. At first, I thought there’s construction going on inside of the place. The restaurant’s got two floors in it. It looked like the place’s short staffed ‘cause the service’s pretty slow. I was told to go upstairs to wait for my seat though there’s plenty of seats around. I eventually went for a big table for sharing. I ordered a breakfast plate which’s out of stock after I paid for it. They’re kind enough to refund for me and I opted for their darkness ramen instead and it’s free. I had to wait for around half an hour for the ramen though, which pretty much squeezed out every ounce of patience from me since it wasn’t my first choice. Darkness ramen tasted pretty average to me. Not impressed with their free range chicken. Their soup’s just alright. Though that’s what I’d expected based on the description from the menu.

Pest control would be nice. Had dinner here and little bugs circled our dishes. We saw a cockroach as well. The ouzo fennel was not edible, extremely bitter. Pork and sirloin taste good but small portion for the price. Friendly staff though!

Make sure you call to book on the weekend. The waiting staffs are friendly and we got our table way before the schedule 1.5 hours wait time. I have the Darkness, it is tasty but on the saltier side. My wife has the Light and the taste was right and there is a distinctive fish broth taste that is amazing.

Well articulated industrial interiors, with natural shadow plays if you happen to visit on a sunny day. They have relatively smaller servings compared to other establishments with the same price point. But they don’t disappoint — food comes with a glorious presentation.

Have heard so much about this place and finally able to visit. Parking can be tricky in Newtown. Cool interior deco with real workshop on one side and cafe/dining on the other. They are trialing QR ordering system so less of a personal touch. Food is okay, more fusion than traditional taste.

I really enjoyed my visit to Rising Sun Workshop. They have very cool interiors, with a car workshop on the ground floor and the main seating area upstairs. It has a chilled ambience and it wasn't crowded or noisy - perfect for catch ups. Service was good and the staff were attentive. I had the Dark Ramen which was delicious and the portion was just right. They also serve Mecca coffee and I was very happy with the batch brew I ordered.

Had a lovely bowl of The Monk ramen for lunch at RSW. It wasn’t the best ramen I’ve had but it was still delicious and worth a visit on your ramen adventures across Sydney. I found the service a little cold. I wasn’t sure if it was because of the increasing covid restrictions or if it was me… I came past on a particularly busy work-day and picked up mum along the way. I had to take a fair few work calls and I definitely felt obnoxious afterwards. We weren’t approached to see if we needed anything during our sitting or how the meal was when we were leaving (standard practice). I just felt like the vibe wasn’t all that friendly or welcoming. Overall, I was underwhelmed with the experience. As a food enthusiast and owner of a custom Ducati Monster, I was so looking forward to checking out and eating at rising sun workshop. Maybe next time. I will be back soon for a re-review.

This is the only place in Sydney I've found that does vegan and gluten free ramen! It's delicious! A must try.

I've been a couple of times to Rising sun and it has never failed me, it can be quite busy so I would recommend booking in advance, being off the main st in Newtown and above a bike garage it feels like a hidden place only the locals really know about.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
