Sydney trip: lunch at Banh Cuon Ba Oanh in Marrickville! It was our first time having Banh Cuon, and it tasted absolutely fantastic! It was quite busy, so it took a little while for the food to come out, but it was quite worth it if you enjoy this type of food 🙂🙂. No frills place. Good value! . Banh Cuon dac biet - steamed rice noodle rolls with mixed pork pieces and grilled pork: huge portion with lots of pork! The grilled pork in the sauce was super savoury. Amazing to dip everything into it 🤤🤤. . Banh Cuon tom / thit: lots of minced prawn. Subtle flavours. Dipping sauce was also really delicious!

Small local joint with outdoor seating that is busy during lunch times. It was my first time trying the special steam rice noodle roll with mixed pork pieces and grilled pork, so delicious! Had the yellow sticky rice with chicken to compliment it, it was also good and even better when mixed with the grilled pork special sauce. Will be back!

First time trying this place and its good service and food. Got there early but had to wait 15 minutes for table very busy. The rice noodle beef and pork delicious but what disappoint me was the congee came out cold so asked them to warm it up the waitress didn’t argue she politely took it to heat it up.

Totally delicious. The wait for a table and your food can take awhile but don’t worry it is worth it. The flavours and textures are all on point.

Freshly made and steamed rice rolls with various types of protein, lovely fresh flavours and dipping sauce is not too sweet/salty. Not many places sell freshly made so this gets too marks. There is limited seating and mostly outdoors so be prepared to wait and brave the elements

Very nice dish! Combination set is fantastic. Very big and filling. Reasonable price. Nice service. A bit of wait for table.

One of the best places to get bánh cuốn! The bánh cuốn is so smooth, silky and the fillings inside is nice and tender, not dry like other places. This is because they hand make and steam right there and then. The grilled pork and everything is nice and flavourful. Good portions size and price is alright. This is the only place that makes you feel like you’re sitting on the streets in Vietnam (because literally you’re sitting outside with wooden tables and stools) and just simply eating classic street food. Though it can be annoying with people smoking around the corner. You might want to get here early as the queue can get quit long. Overall, awesome flavours of food and a “mini” feel of eating Vietnamese street food but instead of on the streets of VN, it’s the streets of Marrickville.

Love this place, everything is gluten free and delicious. Sometimes there’s a long queue but if you come outside of the peak hours you can usually get a seat pretty quick. Both the steamed rice rolls and sticky rice were delicious. Our fave is the grilled pork. It’s become one of our regular spots!

10/10 authentic Vietnamese experience. Yes you will probably need to wait 15mins to order, but it is completely worth it. Quick, friendly service with delicious traditional Vietnamese food. Grilled Pork option is delicious! You feel like you’re sitting in Hanoi eating street food!

Best Banh Cuon in Sydney. I have tried this dish many times at any Vietnamese restaurant that serves it but this is by far the best. Fresh, great texture and excellent flavours.

Finally got to go here. This place is always so busy but we came on Friday for a late lunch and got a table. The banh cuon is so delicious. My mum got the sticky rice and that was really good too. The atmosphere is very Vietnamese with table outside and a busy kitchen inside

Delicious fresh steamed rice rolls and sticky rice dishes. A nice variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes. Outdoor seating gives that Vietnam street food feel. Parking is on the surrounding streets. Gets very busy during lunch hours.

There was a long line to get a seat, but I understand why everyone wants to have a taste of the fresh rice rolls from Bahn Cuon Ba Oanh! They are cooked fresh to order; and are soft, sticky and chewy! There’s a variety of meat fillings to choose from: we got the beef and the grilled pork options. Both had lovely flavour and added some saltiness to the relatively neutral flavour of the rice roll. The beef option had the beef folded inside the roll, whereas the pork was separate and had mushroom bits folded inside the roll. Not being a mushroom fan, I preferred the beef option (as it was sans mushroom). I did really like the pork meatball, but found the slices of grilled pork to be a bit dry. We tried one of their pork and egg buns too, which was something a bit different. I liked the fluffiness of the bun and the filling had great flavour. It had one big chunk of hard boiled egg inside, which wasn’t evenly distributed throughout the bun. There were also noodles inside adding a unique touch. Service was also impressively fast once we got a table and ordered!!

This place is an absolute must! The rice flour rolls are among the best I’ve had, the “pastry” is thin, the fish sauce is fresh and light. Also highly recommend their prawn congee - so much flavour! The fresh coconuts are also very refreshing. The queue to be seated can be long so advise to go at non-peak times.

Love the vegetarian steamed rice noodle roll - (carrot tofu and mushroom). Fresh pickled carrot and papaya. Chicken congee is tasty.

Food was amazing but not so great on the service. Be prepared to queue for a bit especially during peak hours. Queue moves fairly quick. The yellow sticky rice with braised pork, pork floss ($15) was probably my favourite here. The pork was tender, just the right saltiness especially when paired with everything else. The pork floss was quite different compared to the Chinese ones where it isn’t sweet but sort of umami and slightly salty. Great texture as well as the rice came with some sort of steamed yam/mung bean, plus the crunch from salad and crisp from the fried onions. The Ba Oanh’s special steamed rice noodle roll ($19) came about 30 minutes later after 3 times(?) of checking with the staff. The steamed rice noodles was fresh and had great texture but very neutral in terms of taste but a great combination when paired with some tartness of rice vinegar from the sauce, saltiness from the ‘ham’. Overall, no complains with the food at all - really clean and easy on the palate, great combinations. Would return and hope they don’t miss our orders this time.

First time visit and totally in love with the place! The food is really good, light and comforting. Their congee is tasty but their steam rice noodle rolls with grilled pork is the main star. The place is quite small and packed! So best to come not during their peak hours. Will come back again for their steam rice noodle rolls with grilled pork and try their sticky rice with braised pork & pork floss!

It’s a long wait for seating on the weekend but it’s worth the wait. Their steam rice noodles rolls with pork were good, a very hearty portion for its price. Pork was flavorsome with its sauce which made me crave for more. Would love to come back again for more of their rice noodles!

Usually get food to go here as it’s always packed if you don’t get in early. Indoor seating can get a bit hot and stuffy so I recommend getting a spot outside. Can’t go wrong with any of the steamed rice rolls. Despite the price increases, it’s still one of the better value offerings along Illawarra Road.

Their Banh Cuon is really good, get the combination and you get all the meats. Their yellow sticky rice is also good and their congee is the best comfort food for sickness or in winter. Loves the place.

Banh Cuon specialises in steamed rice paper rolls. The special costs $19 and comes with an assortment of herbs, meats, and a savoury broth for you to dip your rolls in. You can sit at the counter and watch the Vietnamese aunties smash out your food in minutes! Come early as there is often a queue out the door!

Arrived around 9:30ish for brunch and already a long line. We didn’t have to wait that long though for a table for 4. Loved the food. Loved the street food vibes. Service was quick. Congee was warm (not hot) but still enjoyed the flavours. A nice meal.

Best noodles ever, freshly made, soft, silky and super tasty. Much recommended! Try to come early as there's always a long line outside.

We all know Banh mi but how many more tried Banh cuon = "rice roll", is one of those rare Vietnamese dishes we can find in Sydney. I would recommend anyone to try this dish if you haven't had a chance to travel North in Vietnam to try the real thing. This is suffice.

Hidden gem in marrickville. Everything on this menu is delicious. I have trouble choosing each and every time, congee, rice rolls, noodle or sticky rice. Come early if you can, to beat the lunch rush hours.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
