The food was really good and it was pretty big portion even though I got the smaller size of Pho. The tea was very strong which with this type it should be. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and look forward to returning..

I am a regular customer of Burma Garden restaurant, and I always admire their fried catfish with lemongrass. Until my last visit, I highly recommended this restaurant to my friends and colleagues, and they also started going there! In such a get-together on May 4, 2023, we went to have lunch and had a miserable and unprofessional experience. We were six people, and the waitress came to us to take orders; another joined later. She did not write down the orders and not surprisingly messed up the orders. Another friend from the group ordered for the person who attended later. We ordered a total of five fried catfish and two tamarind fish. Things only went wrong from there. The server brought four fried catfish and three tamarind fish. When we were served the wrong food, and we explained that this was not my order, the waitress denied it. She returned with the check and kept pointing fingers at me that I ordered the tamarind fish item instead of the fried catfish. She pointed out that I was the last person to order and I ordered tamarind fish, whereas the last person to order was my friend who was sitting two seats on my left. When I failed to make her understand that showing the check does not prove that this was my order cause she did not write it in the first place. Moreover, all my other friends were also trying to make her understand. She left and sent the owner of the restaurant. The restaurant owner also VERY AGGRESSIVELY started arguing with me by pointing the finger at me. She was expressing her disturbance to the point that she began to describe the steps if her chef were to cook my correct order. They never even tried to understand that it was the server's fault, who tried to remember a large group's orders without writing them down. Later the server came and pointed at me that I had made a mistake with my order. Later the owner came, and she started pointing at me by just listening to the server while she was not physically present when the server took the order. They never thought of saying sorry for their behavior. I wonder, if we were a group of White Americans, would they behave in the way they behaved? Their unprofessional and aggressive behavior hurt me the most as their regular visitor. I will not recommend this place to my friends anymore, cause even if the food might taste good, the unprofessionalism is intolerable.

If I have to pinpoint my favorite Bloomington restaurant, it would definitely be Burma Garden. I've gone multiple times in the last 2 years and the food never disappoints. In addition, the quality and service is always consistent. The owners are always willing to accommodate dietary needs/preferences and offer alternatives to dishes as I am a vegetarian. I've posted my most frequented dishes below: curry eggplant and ohn no khao swe. My boyfriend gets the ohn no khao swe every time and absolutely loves it. The curry eggplant melts in your mouth and goes great with the coconut rice.

The Curry Eggplant is delicious, a real unique dish. The sweet iced Burmese tea is also very good and rich (and different than I was expecting in a good way. It almost tasted of chocolate). I love the decorations in this place, and the staff was very friendly and service quick. They have a lot of interesting and varied vegetarian options.

Excellent food. I had never tasted Burmese cuisine before, so I decided to go here with my friends for lunch. Prices are moderately expensive ($$). The lady (I guess she's the owner), helped us out with the menu, explained the ingredients and origin. Overall a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend!

This is the second time I’ve eaten Burmese food. If you think that it is just a variation of Thai cuisine, don’t make that mistake, because it is not! They have their own unique curries, soups and appetizers that are similar to Indian food and other south east Asian dishes, yet unique to the region now called Myanmar

Food was very good and authentic Burmese. I have Burmese roots and the food was close to what we eat at home. Friendly host and good service. Will visit again.

I had veggie pho no tofu. Sometimes I get a broth besides veggie for collagen but she recommended that I just stick with the veggie broth. I went with her recommendation. I just put a little bit of chili sauce and a little sriracha. The veggie broth was so flavorful ❤️. I ate it all and had a hard time breathing afterward 😂. Thank you so much.

I ordered tea leaf salad for my appetizer, and I found a pebble in it. The salad had peanuts in it so I didn't know until I started chewing that freaking pebble! Indeed I complained to the owner/manager about the dish, but she simply said it was beyond her control as all the ingredients she used were imported from her home country. No apologize, no refund, no discount, no nothing. Now my gum is bruised. When you order this appetizer, just be extra careful.

Love the food. However, seems like the restaurant is moving away from Burmese food to becoming just another Asian restaurant. If you are looking for authentic Burmese cuisine, this restaurant is becoming a let down.

Our server Alex did a great job with our larger group. He was very patient with us. We all loved our food! Definitely add a bit of spice, it was a touch bland without. Cannot wait to return! Very authentic food& decor.

My husband and I decided to stop here for dinner recently. We both enjoy trying new places and had never been here before. We are also vegetarian and were grateful for the many options available to us. We started off with an appetizer of samusas. They were flaky and flavorful. We both ordered vegetarian coconut curry with tofu in medium and fire spiciness levels. My husband adores spicy food and the heat the didn't disappoint; he even broke a sweat! Our waitress was kind and attentive. It was a perfect evening to eat outdoors as well. We highly recommend stopping in or ordering takeout. Their food and service is outstanding! We only wish we lived nearer.

You must be some kind of fool if you walk past this place and not eat here! I was going to go to the Korean restaurant however they spelled it Korea restaurant and so I decided not to go there for obvious spelling related issues and opt for the Burmese restaurant! I was delighted as this was the best meal that I’ve had in a long time!!! The owner was amazing and REALLY from Burma and not Iowa as previously suspected!

My wife and daughter tried Burma Garden and raved about it, going on and on. I said, ”It can’t be THAT good.” But then I had a chance to go with them. Guess what? It IS that good! Their server had recommended the coconut tofu curry and Burmese eggplant curry, so that’s what we got again. We got spiciness 2 out of 5, and that was a nice little kick but not too much. SO much flavor, I can’t describe it. Anyway, definitely recommended!

5 Stars for my first time visit. Enjoyed the clear rolls, Green chicken curry, and fried ribs. Drinks were cokes in a can, meh. Service was excellent. Overall, glad we dined here.

This is my favorite restaurant in the whole town. I love and order the clear rolls, coconut chicken curry spicy level 5 (for EXTREME heat, no small tongues) and the tea leaf salad with all of the fixins (this also includes raw birds eye chili.. or something like em, HOT, HOT,HOT) If you like sour, sweet, spicy, delightful food this is the perfect combination. We love them so much!

Love this place! Their Pho is the best soup in town. It's family owned and an absolute gem. I could eat here every day.

They got my order wrong (Pork fried rice instead of Pork fried rice noodles, honest mistake) but I decided to take it anyway. It was okay but honestly pretty bland. I would try the place again but I would not recommend the fried rice.

You are missing out if you are near Bloomington and don't eat here. I'm in town from NY for a few days and might eat here every remaining night of my trip. Authentic, great food with a friendly, peaceful atmosphere. They would do well in any city in the US. Bloomington is better for having them here. A very pleasant surprise and great recommendation by Cole over at Godot Marketing.

It's really hard to find a restaurant with a number of vegan options. Let alone one that has dishes as delicious as Burma Garden. We eat here about 3 times a week. Must try the onions with yellow peas, the lemongrass tofu, and the mushroom and tofu stir fry. Authentic, reliable, consistent, and so so yummy!

We had reservations at 6pm and we showed up at 6pm. The restaurant was 50% full. We wanted to order appetizers first and then dinner, but the old hostess warned us that we may have to leave the restaurant to make place for others. We said ok. Honestly, the restaurant was 50% full even when we left an hour later. I will not go back to this restaurant. Just across the street is a Thai place that had a line outside. Next time it will be that Thai place. Food was ok.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants. Due to The Melting Pot that is my family this food reminds me of home and gave a name to flavor pairings that it didn't know existed outside of my family

Nice and quiet restaurant in a converted home. The waitstaff was very friendly, and the food was all very good. We got the fried fish cakes, salted fish and shrimp fried rice, and coconut chicken curry. The curry was one of the best dishes I have had any time recently. I greatly enjoyed the visit and would recommend to anyone!

All in all good food and a nice simple atmosphere. There aren't a lot of tables inside, but it works well. The food was very good. I enjoyed it and the person I had dinner with did too. I will eat here again if I'm in the area and have a taste for Indian food.

Little "mom and pop" place with a big flavor food. I appreciate their honesty in attempting to deliver authenticity of the ethnic food. Some must try dishes, catfish lemongrass, fried fish cake and tea leave salad.

This is the best food in town, imho. We always get the pork ribs with tamarind sauce, the catfish with lemon grass, and the garlic noodles--but that's because that's what we tried the first time and it's so good we never want to risk trying anything else! Awesome. One complaint: no alcohol, not even byob.

I moved away from Bloomington 6 years ago and still crave the dishes at this restaurant. The food is so good. I am close to NYC now and there are no traditional Burmese restaurants! One more reason the Bloomington is the very best town.
