Earlier this week I took my 8m old daughter to emergency- her 2nd visit here within 6 months. I cannot fault the teams working- despite being obviously busy, both times we did not have to wait very long to be seen by a Doctor. All staff were caring, calm & ensured my daughter was well looked after and I feel very thankful. It gives me a sense of relief to know that we have such great support during an emergency so close to home. Although it is easier to leave a negative review, I felt it was important to share my positive experience.

No one cares here. Emergency department is supposed to act fast and these people just chit chat and make fun. They keep talking to each other and all they do is eat choclates and chill out. Emergency department is supposed to be fast and accurate. Such a stupid hospital.

Having two star rating and no signs of improvement, it’s better to close this hospital. I had taken my 4 year old kid to emergency. Sooner I realised it’s a torture on my kid after she felt asleep after long wait and making it difficult to treat her. An absolute trash staff who has absolutely no idea how to do an administration and keep updated the patients. Such a disgrace.

I'm extremely sad to give 1 star review ....being an hospital emergency they don't know and understand what's the emergency means. 7 to 8 hours wait always to see a doctor in an emergency... is it really worth to visit. I am extremely shocked and disappointed with their service...I really wish things can be changed ....this is an unacceptable in a developed country most important Health is getting neglected by the government.

Please just don’t come here. I had a hand injury which they made me wait three days with a painful drip in my arm of antibiotics. Doctors forgot my file and daily asked the same questions. Nurses making so much noises and chatting with colleagues. Where is the humility?! People, please go somewhere else. If you can pay for private, do it. It’s not worth the pain and waste of life. For the hospital: Triage and communication is very poor. Nurses and doctors for the most part were helpful until admission. After that I felt forgotten and unimportant. Left in lieu. Communicate with nurses, or have a system where patients can know what’s happening. I got massively anxious after waiting for plastics to see me. In the end I gave up and went to another hospital. Which was they saw me in 5 mins and spoke with a surgeon pretty much straight away. Not comparing just saying, things can be better and it’s not much to ask for.

The worst experience we’ve ever had at an emergency hospital. Their turnaround time between patients is extremely poor, patients coming in and out for testing and asked to wait in the waiting room and not given beds. One nurse would come in every 45 minutes. We arrived at 2:00am with chest pain and shortness of breath, it’s now 5:00am and no testing has been done such as ECG or blood tests. There is only 7 patients in the emergency room so not understanding the extremely slow time. At this point if you’re a local, you’re better off driving to a further hospital such as Austin or Epping. Service here is so poor and slow would not recommend for care.

I visited Sunshine Hospital with my wife for an emergency on October 10th, at midnight. Understandably, public hospitals can have long wait times, and we were prepared for that. However, what disappointed me was the communication process. Instead of staff coming to patients, they repeatedly called patients up to the front window via a microphone to give updates on their status. This was inconvenient and uncomfortable, especially for those who were unwell and needed rest. Furthermore, I found the staff at the front window to be a bit rude in their interactions. On the positive side, I must acknowledge the professionalism and dedication of the nursing staff. They were decent and provided good care. Improving both the communication process and the attitude of the front window staff could significantly enhance the overall experience at Sunshine Hospital.

I recently had to take my son here because of tonsillitis. This was after being turned away from Footscray hospital as they supposedly don’t admit kids. There was barely 10 patient parking spots near the emergency room (ER) entrance. And the other hospital car park is a long walk away (in an emergency) with no access to walk to the ER from inside the hospital. I’m a single parent and drove my son to hospital alone, so I had to drive around the ER so many times waiting for a parking spot. It was raining so I could not walk around with a sick baby. When I finally got to the ER the waiting line was out the door and I had to wait outside in the freezing cold with a baby who was already running a fever. A nurse only came to check on the baby once I was close to the front of the line, after having waited close to 40 mins. There was no special admittance even for babies. My baby was quite unwell by then and his fever had increased just from waiting out in the cold. Once inside, the staff provided quick treatment and I’m truly grateful. But there need to be better facilities and care provided at a ER. A triage nurse should check on patients waiting in line, specially kids and elderly, to assess if they need urgent care. Please, we come to hospital because it’s an emergency and shouldn’t have to wait till our loved ones feel worse.

I took my 17 month old son to the emergency department here and the care given by the staff was good. There is obviously some wait time as the place is always busy. The triage staff, doctors and other staff were calm and helpful. Thanks a lot folks. The place looks understaffed and needs more staff to cope with the rush and to give some relief to the existing hardworking staff.

No one cares for the patient here specially for newborn. Staffs are unprofessional, less experienced or even i am not scared to say lack of knowledge .If there is zero or minus ratings then I’ll give that. When my bub is 4 days old we went in emergency we had some other concerns for our baby as we all know new born babies born with jaundice. Midwife already checked his jaundice point my baby was not at risk. Still in emergency department they prick 3-4 time on my bub’s feet they done capillary test twice but they didn’t know how to do I guess becoz they failed twice and they didn’t tell us. i think pt . Dr relationship should be transparent always so we trust doctors. After failing in 2nd attempt they asking for 3rd time prick but I denied. Instead of emergency department doctors they all look trainees. Here google don’t have minus rating otherwise they don’t deserves one star.

Don't go there it's dangerous. I accidentally overdosed on paracetamol and the emergency protocol is to inject the antidote within an 8 hour windows else catastrophic liver failure. By the time I got to Sunshine ED, I had a 3 hour window to get the injection. When I presented to reception, they told me to sit in the waiting room and expect a 9 hour wait. After 1 hour I called an ambulance to pick me up from Sunshine ED and drive to John Fawkner Private where they administered the antidote within about 3 minutes. Sunshine Hospital should be bulldozed and forgotten it ever existed

Line was out the door. At one point only One nurse was at the windows for triage. Had to stand in line just over 30 mins which feels like eternity when your sick. Don't get me started on the care inside short stay. Most were friendly but friendly doesn't cut it when getting sent home with out answers/results. Worst hospital I have been to in Melbourne. Not ruling out Legal Advice.

If I could give this no stars I would. A few months ago I was suffering with sudden onset heart palpitations at work on a Saturday, I was put into the ambulance offload area and discharged within a matter of hours with the advice to see my GP on the Monday for a holter monitor though I’d already seen my GP the day prior. Later that night I had to call an ambulance to my home as my symptoms had worsened and there was no way of knowing if I was having runs of SVT, I was brought in again and put into SSU as I had represented. My Dr overnight was alright and proceeded to do more tests than I had received that day and put me on cardiac monitoring. The following morning however, I had no episodes overnight but was beginning to experience them again and was told to push the nurse call button so someone could capture the ECG- when I did… no one came for 10 minutes, in this period of time I had pre-vasovagal symptoms and palpitations so severe I was reduced to tears (I understand nurse call buttons aren’t always responded to especially with belligerent pts who abuse them but I had not touched it all night). A nurse did come eventually but couldn’t capture the ECG because the leads weren’t on properly. It was almost time for me to be discharged and I felt 100% worse than I did when I arrived. The Dr I had did an ultrasound of my heart and observed the ECG and was pointing out that I was having PVCs… like yes anyone who understood basic ECG morphology would know this! I eventually self-discharged and took myself to Epworth Richmond. Prior to leaving the Dr did a D-dimer as all the other tests were NAD for my “peace of mind.” Upon arrival to Epworth they put me into a resus cubicle as my HR had been consistently sitting >90bpm for two days and I had difficulty breathing- my temp was 38.1 (febrile) and lo and behold… my d-dimer was positive. I had a severe infection (I met SIRS criteria thankfully not a blood clot). I am absolutely appalled at the care I received at WHS. I was gaslighted into thinking it was anxiety related, left feeling unsafe in my cubicle and was treated like a circus freak when it came to my ultrasound… don’t come here unless you want to risk your life or unless your presenting complaint is obvious because these people seem to struggle with the concept of being thorough… the consultant told me it was a vagus nerve issue even though I’d explained that I had a high temperature when my episodes would occur… like way out of the ball park. I’d like to thank the staff at epworth and the paramedics that brought me in because they were genuinely the only people that made me feel heard and safe during such a scary time.

Cannot believe what I just witnessed. Came to this hospital with a head injury. I and 6 other people waited in line at the ED, just to check in. After about 20 minutes not one person had been seen to. But a lot of staff were sitting around chatting. One woman was sitting down in great distress and not one staff member checked on her. Going to another hospital now as this is absolutely appalling!

We wanted to thank the beautiful team who so patiently worked so hard with all the different cases that were in emergency on the day we also came in. Clearly it's not an easy job helping so many different people in need. We think the team, including the doctors, nurses and support staff were wonderful. We felt so well looked after and are so grateful for this service and the care we received. Thank you so much.

Very bad service. A small number of guard nurses and doctors are irregular. There is no one to monitor the health conditions of those in the waiting room. My companion was waiting and suddenly her condition worsened and there was no one to help them. Very bad. The health sector is very poor in Australia, especially the emergency room

Amazing staff and team at Sunshine ED. My partner Laura fell at home, and severely sprained her ankle. I took her to ED and they immediately gave her pain killers, x-ray and assessment before discharge after 45min. I couldn’t believe how efficient and friendly the staff were - a testament to our public Healthcare system. Thank you Sunshine Hospital ED. You made the experience very positive despite the circumstances!

I've spent 12hrs hear and the doctors won't listen. I told them what they thought wasn't right and I was right. If they listened to patients used the right resources for what the patient is telling them. They would cut there work load in half anf patients would get the proper treatment

Even though the waiting time is a bit long but people need to understand that due to Covid and high ageing population of the area, the long waiting time is expected. Having said that, all of the staff that I encountered during my surgery was very nice, from receptionists to nurses, doctors and surgeons. Just be patient and acknowledge good service they provide, especially the nurses. 👍 👍

Queue to get to the counter and then another minimum 8 hours wait until the emergency, looks like system is designed to fail to make case for private. Serious issues with night staff temperament as well.

My 6 month old baby sent to Sunshine Hosp via AV due to anaphylaxis. Because of their prompt treatment and high skilled healtcare workers, my baby is safe and okay at the end. Kuddos Dr. Sarah (paeds consultant), you are amazing. No wonder why you are a consultant, a great leader. She heard the stridor straight away and quickly ordered adrenaline. Thanks to Dr. Chris who is a sharp shooter, he cannulated my chunky baby at first attempt. To all amazing nurses from paeds to resus, too many names to remember in that panic state but Tash (the resus nurse) and argh she was wearing green smack gown with black curly hair -you made me feel reassured- sorry if I can't remember your name, I will never forget your face. Thank you for bringing up the Hokey Poke for my baby and everything. There was a staff too I guess he was a nurse prac, he asked me if my baby at least enjoyed the meal and I said yes. haha that was the first mini laugh in that overwhelming experience. Thank you guys. To AV who picked us from home, thanks for encouraging us to go to ED and smooth ride. To PIPER what else I can say when I finally burst my tears, you guys made me feel not alone.

The nurses that took care of me during my time here has been an amazing experience. Special thanks to Bronte, Suman and Laura who took extra great care of me and gave me my life back from a infection that spreads throughout my throat. An infection that makes it difficult/impossible to swallow anything, slows down my breathing and increase my heart rate. Thank you for your service.

Waited so many Hours in emergency. They had the air con on so long and high that it started to affect my eyes and I got a massive headache. The Asian lady Ning that was attending me was very inconsistent. I told her I hadn't eaten in over a day and it took her 3 hours to bring me a sandwich.

Worst hospital I've ever been too. Waiting 40 Minutes just for a wheelchair to get my girlfriend out of the car , then told another 6 hour wait just to see a doctor without any pain medication given while she was in immense pain. Staff are very rude and do not care at all , better off going to your go then waiting at this so called emergency department

  • 1/5 Greg S. 2 years ago on Google
Horrendous wait times, with no pillows available and a limit of two blankets per person to make their wait more bearable. Emergency department with security guard stationed at waiting room door possibly necessary but tragic. But it's not the fault of the staff. They are stressed and pushed to the limit. They do an admirable job in holding it together in a doomed system.

  • 1/5 navdeep p. 2 years ago on Google
I under emergency means you will have to wait longer than your GP but that doesn't mean no one will come and see you while you are struggling to breathe and have chest pain because of post covid infection. Its been 5 hours and (god knows how many more )setting on very uncomfortable chair waiting for Dr to come and see me. Worse experience of my life, no priority for patients in pain. Very disappointed from this system and confused where to go next for instant help.

Took my aunt in (80) year old last nite. She waited 5 hrs to be admitted. I wasn’t allowed to stay with her and today I’ve tried 4 times to call in to check on her and I’m told Sorry ma’am, I’m not on the ward so I can’t help. What happened to Australian healthcare? Disgraceful.

If you are in pain or need Medial attention DO NOT COME HERE. you'll honestly die waiting. The worst ER I have ever been through. Abysmal waiting time, Horrendously rude and inconsiderate staff. Unfortunately I never got to meet one of the Medial professionals here as I was forced to wait 4 hours even being brought in through ambulance from a separate hospital. I witnessed a poor little girl who had broken her leg being told by the reception "People have been waiting to be treated for 11 hours, so you'll just have to wait". My blood was boiling and i would rather be in as much pain as possible then force the little child to wait that long. So we left hoping ill recover on my own. It's unknown if they are short staffed, Lazy or aren't trained enough to handle 5 people over the course of 3 hours. My upmost condolences who were unfortunate to come here seeking medical help.

I would give a 0 stars if i could. I went here on the 5/12 on Tuesday. The staffs are rude, disrespectful and not welcoming. I brought my mum here and had to wait in a long line while my mum was in pain having trouble breathing. We had to wait so long then it was our turn. We told the staffs so many times that my mum was in pain but they didn't help my mum. they could see that my mum was in pain and forces her to wait 11:00pm til 4:00am in uncomfortable chairs. There was people waiting before us and they let them in first. The next day the ambulance brought mum to footscray hospital because she was in severe pain and brought her in quickly. I wouldn’t recommend people going to sunshine hospital if you’re in severe pain because either way they wouldn't help. I would recommend footscray hospital because they will bring you in quick and give you good care.

I am taking time to specifically write this worse experience of mine at sunshine Hospital Emergency actually I don't know why they write Emergency because first of all we waited 1 and half hour in queue to see the nurse and she gave my husband panadol and nurofen which my husband Can easily take at home and then they said wait for 6 to 8 hours to see the doctor. Are they insane? Is this called an emergency service? Please Don't play with people's life as they come to you with hope and please hire more doctors. This is incredibly Dispointing. We just walked out because my husband was not in a position to wait for 6 to 8 hours to see the doctor.A very ridiculous experience.
