My husband and I found this hidden Japanese cafe gem on Queen Street and it hits me enough to urge me to write a review straight away ( Im not really a big reviewer tho). The cafe/restaurant was quite quiet on a Sat night but as a quick chat with the owner, they have just opened beginning of this year. The restaurant seems nice and spacious from the outside yet we actually felt quite cosy, maybe because of the welcoming hospitality of the staff, very friendly and helpful with lots of smiles on their faces. Decorations are very cute and detailed in each corner Regarding food, it was so delicious. We started with gyoza ( very thin skin panfryed, yumm) and eggplant with miso sauce ( Im a huge fan of this dish and have to order it in every Japanese restaurant). Im so in love with the texture of the Wagyu Nabe soup while my husband really enjoyed all the cold dishes especially the Caspaccio King Fish ( Yuzu or cirtrus) and the Teriyaki BBQ skewers. We especially got a special treat from the chef with the Tuna Tataki and it was so fresh Tuna was melting in the mouth. We also tried the dessert Matcha ( Greentea) and Sesame Panna cotta homemade ??. Pity that we were so full we couldnt try any of the hot plates. Cant wait for next time to be back as price is very reasonable for quality food. Another pity that they dont open late at night ( Maybe because they open from 7am-9pm?) Another plus point is wheelchairs and pram accessible ( ramp on the side of the restaurant) and its spacious so easy to move around. Last but not least I highly recommend this place because I think all the stores that are using or shifting to a more eco-friendly packaging and system should be recognised. Little act helps the environment even tho it may increase the business cost. They earned so much points from me using paper straws and bags. Im gonna be your loyalty customer.

If you’re looking for an affordable and high quality Japanese food in the city, I would say - look no further! I’ve been here a few times and their food quality has always been very consistent. Their grilled mackerel was my favourite (hands down the best in Melbourne! 🙌) and don’t think you were could find any seafood tempura with great selection of seafood and taste as good as theirs! 😍

On 28 June we went to Namoo for our date night and we got: 🐙 Takoyaki 🐟 Sashimi 🍣 Lava Roll 🍢 Yakitori (Mixed Skewers) The place had cute decor, there were plenty of seatings but wasn’t crowded when we came in. The staff was nice, but did get our order wrong - however they made it up to us and that was appreciated :) The food was tasty but slightly average, although the portions were good for the price. If you’re looking for a casual lunch/dinner, it’s a pretty good spot to visit.

A Japanese restaurant with mix of Korean dishes. Everything was good but the highlights were the Yakitori platter, Whitefish sashimi platter and Creamy garlic and onion fried chicken. The Yakitori is grilled with full of flavour, smokiness and juicy! Whitefish is so fresh, makesure you wrap them in the leaves, garlic chilli and dipped in the orangey sauce!

Sashimi and salmon aburi were great. The staff too were friendly; based on these everything was ok. Unfortunately their other dishes ruined the experience. The wagyu aburi was very very dry. Also the wagyu jeon / pancake was literally fried… as absurd as it sounds, if I didn’t know what it was I’d say it even tastes like KFC chicken. It was greasy and not even close the what the dish should be. Not worth it at the price sorry

Delicious! The food was very good, got a whole meal with so many different kinds of dishes for only 30 dollars. Very filling. The presentation of the food very accurate. The location easy and had great music in the background. The kitchen was open till late and even if they closed they let us finish our meal with no rush. Great job!

10/10 will be back again. Everything on the plate is quality, beautiful, and yummy. Usually come here for lunch but dinner presents a different menu I had to try. Nabe is enough for 1.5 so ordered a salad. Servings are generous. Store is clean and staff are attentive. Came at 6 and food was out very quickly.

The food was fine, but there's no value for money here. I don't mind paying for quality food but I have had better at other places for less. Maybe it because we had take away. It's a places you need and hour or two, to sit in and order a few things to share and enjoy the food. It ls a lovely little setting, hidden away, an I would love to come and back and experience the dine in. 3.5 ☆

Don’t know why it’s called a Japanese cafe when it’s Korean owned, operated, and most patrons are Koreans eating Korean food. Namoo means “tree” in Korean. But I really like the spicy gopchang stew so much that I ate it all by myself when everyone else was sharing at a table of 4-6. I got udon to start and finished with red rice to make a paella.

Now these guys had some beautiful premium quality sashimi 💖 so fresh and delicate and very tender! A great selection of fresh fish. We had the medium sashimi dish and it was enough for 2 people. The boneless fried chicken... let's talk!!!! Wow! So friggin yum so succulent and delicious! Not oily at all and super tender and juicy. We had the original flavour and sweet chilli.. omg have the sweet chilli amazing sauce and only a light kick but so moorish! The edamame was unique and slightly smoked in flavour, I think it may have been grilled or seared lightly, still very nice and different. Service was lovely and the waiter was very helpful. The atmosphere is clean and very chill, a very nice casual Japanese experience. If you have to use the bathroom they will supply you with a key 🔑 Overall a great experience, I will definitely be back to try some of the hotpot dishes too!

Really impressed with the quality of the food here! The sashimi and sushi was really fresh. A standout for me was definitely the salmon aburi bowl with delicious sauce drizzled over the top. The robata skewers were also really tender and flavoursome. They have a good variety too cos you can also get shabu shabu or sukiyaki!

Namoo entrees were delicious. We got a few to share across the table. The takoyaki and karaage chicken were done perfectly. In fact, the karaage chicken was the best I’ve had in Melbourne actually. The sushi and sashimi on the other hand were a little disappointing though. This Japanese cafe is run by non-Japanese people and if you’re after authenticity, I suggest sushi and sashimi elsewhere. Traditional sushi does not contain that much sauce and one with a Korean taste. Would love to go back to try out other items on their menu.

One of my favourite Japanese & Korean fusion restaurants! Beef intestines are must-try dishes, no matter in which flavours. I personally prefer the Korean traditional fried one, though spicy Sichuan one is not bad~

Discovered this place by coincidence as it was close to hotel where I was staying. It was Wednesday night and place was well visited, most of the people having shabu shabu. I chose teishoku with tempura prawn. It was absolutely delicious although I didn’t now what are the half of the things in my ramen. Place seems to be popular as after work gathering with a quiet few regulars.

The shellfish soup was so goooooood 🍲 we ordered some udon to pair it with!! I highly recommend their pork belly, shrimp and cheese rice stick skewers 🍢 we got a large sashimi platter for 2 and it was too much maybe we should've gone for medium instead but tastes great 😍 HONOURABLE MENTION: bingsu!!! it's a one stop shop for mains + cocktails + desserts 🍨 the black sesame bingsu was fantastic 🤘🏻🤘🏻would definitely come back

Hotpot is uniquely tastes good. I like also how the grilled/fried fish was cooked, although it looks like the fish was fried than it’s grilled - nevertheless good. The sashimi salad was nicely presented but I’m just not a fun of how watery it is in the bowl (my first time to have that, perhaps I’m just not used). The interiors are nice too, and good for meetups/catchups. Must try!

Ordered a nigiri sushi set, mixed skewers plate and strawberry bingsu. Was expecting eight different pieces of sushi but some were the same. Pretty average sushi but reasonably priced. Skewers were tender with a slightly sweet glaze, and the scallion was nice to have as a palate cleanser. Bingsu was fully covered with sliced strawberries and inside were layers of strawberry sauce which added the right amount of sweetness without the need of condense milk; very refreshing and tasty.

Great fusion, Japanese/Korean restaurant. I really enjoy the food here however I think it’s a little bit overpriced for some particular items. My favourite dish her is the beef intestine soup, it is delicious 9.2/10. The meat skewered I found to be quite dry so 5/10. Overall it’s a good place to visit with friends for a tasty meal over some drinks. Towards the end of the night there was a drunk patron screaming, yelling and being very aggressive but the store didn’t do anything about it.

What a good vibe. Staff was friendly and sweet. Interior are pretty warm, and chill. Food was served pretty quick. Had the karrage chicken curry, was nice portion, just a little bit less chicken but for the price it’s quite okay. Pork Katsu curry was pretty nice 😚

Everything was lovely! Must try the platter of mixed yakitori skewers which is a selection of 8 tasty glazed pieces of various charred meat, seafood and offal - fave were the chicken spring onion, prawn and intestines 🔥 The nabe came with a mountain of wagyu rolls and lots of veges. The nabe pot could be deeper as it was hard not to bubble over the edge but the mushroom broth was light and perfect with the fatty wagyu - must add udon to soak it all up. We went for some entrees too and they were very fresh! Large sashimi had 30+ salmon, snapper, tako with wasabi stem✨, tuna, kingfish, caviar pieces and tartare was done in a Korean style with raw egg, garlic sauce, icy pear, and cheese slices. Can't forget dessert! Black sesame was stronger than matcha and loved the nice touch of adzuki and crunchy topping on both which elevated the experience than just a plain scoop. 📸 Ordered: 🍲 Wagyu nabe $39 + udon noodle $4 🍢 Yakitori mixed skewers $49 🍣 Sashimi Large assorted $79 🥩 Beef tartare 35 🍺 Ginger highball $15 🍶 Yuzu sake $12 🥤 Honey yuzu ade $9 🍦 Matcha ice cream $8 🍦 Black sesame ice cream $8 Friendly and quick service even on a busy Tuesday night and great vibes with Kpop bgm.

After being recommended Namoo by a co-worker, I was first struck by the restaurant's high ceilings and stylish interior design. It was then a pleasant surprise to discover how affordable the menu was. I had the grilled chicken donburi and it was delicious. Namoo also offers bento boxes, udon noodles, grilled meats and the usual assortment of Japanese entrées so I am keen to return at some stage. This particular inner-city izakaya is quite popular with the local lawyer crowd. But don't let that perturb you, haha.

Always wanted to try this restaurant and finally got a chance to eat here last week. We ordered chicken katsu udon and chicken katsu rice with their yakitori platters. I must say their platters were really amazing! The taste was on point and you could feel the char grilled meat cooked perfectly. The sauce was exceptional as well. The katsu udon and rice were also good. Much more crispy compared to other normal Japanese restaurant. Overall it was a good experience
