Amazing tour! The tour guide, Lydia, was super knowledgeable and had a super vibe to share her passion and the history of this studio. We didn't wait much, but the tours are every hour 12.30pm, 1.30pm etc). So be sure to buy it in advance or to arrive a bit earlier to get your spot. The tour includes the upstairs, some kind of museum, Marion's office and the studio. Impressive tour as you'll be able to be in the same room as all the rock and roll legends

We LOVED the tour and visiting here. There is so much musical history in this building. We highly recommend visiting and doing the tour. It’s amazing to see the recording studio. We will come here again next time we are in Memphis!

Absolutely brilliant! Visiting the birthplace of Rock n' Roll was the realization of a boyhood dream. This place is full of joy and soul! The staff are genuine fans who love this wonderful place and the music it made, and they love their fellow fans too. Unbelievably only $12 for admission and a brilliant guided tour. Absolutely, do tip your guide! I can't wait to return!

Brilliant place to visit. We had a friendly and informative tour guide, and we loved the addition of some of the tracks to punctuate stories about the history of the place. It's not a huge museum, but it was special to be able to be in the recording studio like so many great musicians. We hadn't booked online but were able to pick up tickets on the door, although I know this isn't always the case.

So fun. We are from out of state, vacationing and was visiting Memphis & Graceland. This is a must see for music fans and Elvis fans! Take the tour for sure. Really interesting and they have kept it timeless looking. It’s still a working recording studio to this day in the evenings after the tours are over for the day, our guide said. U2 left their drum set after a recording, was suppose to come back and get it and never did. Neat! We loved it.

Thoroughly enjoyed, but definitely try to plan your day so you can pick up tickets for a tour later on in the day. Also highly recommend going to Stax Records so you can get the full scope of Memphis’ musical heritage. This one is a guided tour and they move you right along. I appreciated how much of the focus was on the studio itself.

Great experience. I highly recommend this tour of the actual birthplace of Rock N Roll. So many amazing talented people got their start here. Our tour guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining. The gift shop was filled with everything you'd need in any gift giving capacity as long as that includes stickers, tee shirts, key chains, the 78 reprints that made Sun Studio an actual legend and the like. Go here. Learn something! I sure did! I went. I learned! Stuff. And things! Knowledge!

Really great piece of music history!!!!! Not overly expensive and the young man who gave us the tour was great. To be in that recording studio where so much music history was made was something else. Definitely great value for the price and the tour is done in a reasonable amount of time so you can squeeze it in while seeing other Memphis attractions. I definitely would not pass this place up though.

This place is AWESOME! Second time here and it's a Must when in Memphis. Prepare to get there early. Look on the website for tour times. Krista was the group tour guide and she was very knowledgeable, engaging and informative. Be kind and bring some cash to tip your tour guide! A lot of cool merchandise to buy and front staff was very nice and friendly!

Sun Studio is a fantastic place to visit. There is a lot of history here and our tour guide was very informative giving out a lot information about the studio’s history and the people who had passed through over the years. The studio is still used for recording today, in fact, a lady who was our hostess at The Arcade Restaurant told us she had recorded there and was recording again the next week. In addition to the Tour, they offer coffee and souvenirs to be purchased and even have some old authentic historical records which can be purchased. It was very interesting to hear the history of the studio and especially to hear that Sam Phillips mandated “the microphone”, which has been used since studio opening and by all who have passed through, be left for visitors and allows everyone to “touch” history. Tours are about an hour long and we’ll worth it. Definitely recommend if you are in Memphis you make a stop at Sun Studios!

This is the quintessential beginning of rock-n-roll. A very personal tour from Daniel was a treat we were not expecting to get, the tour guides are accessible and easy to engage in conversation about the history here. There is some audio in the upstairs portion of the tour that I think could be on a better quality sound system. The studio portion of the tour is the best part. You get to see where Johnny Cash, Jerry Lewis, and Elvis Presley began to make history. We came on a Friday in the "off season" (December 10th, 2021). We could have come later in the day and had a tour all to ourselves. Still, a very authentic experience. The Edge Motor Museum is an excellent place to swing by while waiting for and after your tour.

This was my number one place to see on my trip here and it surely didn't disappoint! A place filled with such history you can feel it. And a plus was I found a really cool Cash record to take home too! I highly recommend this spot for any tourist; especially those music history buffs. Thank you to the wonderful staff! You made the visit that much more memorable!

I take every friend who visits from another state to Sun Studio and they all absolutely love it. Such a cool place and our tour guide, Lydia, was super informative and fun. My personal favorite parts were learning how Johnny Cash created the “boom-chick-a-boom” sound with his guitar and of course the beginning of young Elvis. Special little spot that everyone visiting from out of town should go.

Always a great time to when you can listen to hit music in the studio it was recorded in. Would highly recommend this studio. Listening to the stories and the music in the studio looking just like it did back in the day is priceless. Can’t give enough props to our guide graham

I went to Sun Records with average expectations and, I've got to say, the tour overwhelming exceeded them. Having worked at Universal Studios Florida as a Jaws boat skipper (back in the day) I know that the right person can "make or break" your experience when you're visiting a tourist attraction. Our tour guide, Graham Winchester, exhibited an honest-to-God passion for everything he showed us and talked about during the tour. You could tell he was invested in the stories and the importance of Sun Records as an integral piece of rock 'n roll history. My only concern was in regards to capacity. I feel that they were more people on each tour than there should have been while operating in the midst of COVID-19. It was very hard to maintain social distance effectively in such small areas. Aside from that, I highly recommend making the time for this if you're ever in Memphis.

Simply bliss. Perfect visit for locals and visitors who love music and Memphis/Southern history. Well worth the tour. The people on staff are wonderful and truly helpful and insightful – you can tell they really enjoy what they do. Make the most of your time in Memphis and do yourself a favor: buy a t-shirt. You won't regret it!

This place is awesome!!! If you grew up in 50's and 60's you will have an even deeper appreciation. Tour guide was really into her job and did a great job. Forgot her name though. But definitely worth it. Go early and get tickets as you can't reserve on line.

The birthplace of Rock and Roll and you can feel the history oozing out of the walls. The tour was great and very well guided. You can even hold the original microphone used in Sun Studios in your hand and go on a picture with it. You can also sit behind the drum used by U2 when they recorded there!

  • 4/5 Ruben G. 1 year ago on Google
Fun and chill experience. Visiting just the store is great, but you need to take the tour to actually get the real experience. There is much more to Sun Studio beyond of the store. It was good to hear all the stories of artists that recorded there. Definitely recommend!

Great tour! Great guide! This place is a lesson in the roots of rock and roll. So many famous people recorded here. It's amazing to stand where they were. And you get to hold the microphone that Elvis sang into. If you're a rock and roll fan, you got to see this place!

Honestly one of the best things my group did while in Memphis. We added it to our bus tour experience and we were so glad we did. Our tour guide Sam was amazing and very knowledgeable. To stand in the room where so many great name’s recorded was a bucket list item. Highly recommend this on your stop in Memphis!

Decided on an impromptu tour while in Memphis for work. Very glad I did. Was fun learning some history of the place and the main attraction was getting to touch the mic Elvis and others actually used. Check it out if in Memphis. Only $15 for a fun 40 minutes of history

MUSIC LOVER'S PARADISE. Rock n Roll and Country Music were born here if you ask me. Very detailed tour. Highly recommended. Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Conway Twitty and the list goes on.

What a wonderful tour! $15 gets you a fabulously informative tour. We originally had 3:30 tickets…we went to eat and there was a LONG wait that would make us late for our tour. I made a call and they graciously changed my tour to the 4:30 timeframe. So sweet of them.

The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because they seemed to be confused by the TripAdvisor voucher & times. Our reservation was for 10am tour, but we were placed on the 10:30am tour (not a big deal), & I had to explain what the voucher was for. Not sure if this is a miscommunication between Sun Studio & TripAdvisor...regardless, we were able to use the voucher and are taking home some fun memorabilia :

Pretty cool place. Had a great tour guide. Good amount of memorabilia, instruments, records, and cool sound clips to listen to. Reasonable price for entry, and was quite easy with just a scan for temp, due to Covid concerns. Not bad, Sun Studio... not bad!

One of my favorite museums. The place is tiny and the parking is a pain in the butt but this is a must see place in Memphis. Tour guides are always knowledgeable and enthusiastic and no matter how many times you visit, you always learn something new about the history. A real Memphis gem!

The birthplace of Rock N' Roll. Standing in the studio where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many other Rock pioneers got their start, is humbling and awe-inspiring to fans of early Rock N' Roll like myself. A simple place, and a simple tour, indicative of the roots of Rock N' Roll. If you dig that period where Rock was born from the Blues, this is a must-see.

  • 5/5 Joshua D. 3 years ago on Google
Such a wonderful experience full of history and amazing stories. The studio itself and Sam's booth are relatively untouched since the 1950s, and an original mic used by the likes of Elvis and Johnny Cash is there for photo ops. Our tour guide, Drew, was great and exceedingly entertaining.

Quality in recording, performers of quality and quality in describing the history of the studio. Being the birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll, to me, this studio embodies the creation of a new music era with a crazy and eclectic style both in dance and in rhythm.
