A very nice adventure for kids and adults. Very interactive and kid and family friendly. The staff was very friendly and they explained either in Dutch, German or English. We spent around 3 hours in the 5 different places of the museum. Very nice collection from different time. No dogs allowed (which is normal) and you can book your tickets online. Start your round with the submarine because normally everybody starts on the other side, so you can avoid the crowd as on the submarine rhe entry is very shallow and it takes a bit time. Best gift for a good utility and price ratio: pencil sharpener in 5 or 6 different shape for 6€. Have fun

(Translated by Google) Absolute class. If you want to know how a 3D radar works and what it looks like in a modern submarine, you've come to the right place. No trace of glorification. If you don't like it, don't go there. Super museum. Absolute recommendation. And just around the corner the best chip shop in the world: The "De Werviaan" friteboetike. Also a MUST! (Original) Absolute Klasse. Wer wissen will, wie ein 3D-Radar funktioniert und wie es in einem moderneren U-Boot aussieht, ist hier richtig. Von Verherrlichung keine Spur. Wenn man es nicht mag, soll man nicht hingehen. Super-Museum. Absolute Empfehlung. Und gleich um die Ecke die beste Frittenbude der Welt: Die Friteboetike "De Werviaan". Ebenfalls ein MUSS!

Fun little museum, impressive collection! Child-friendly and like all museums ran by veterans, well-maintained. The live exhibits (submarine, minesweeper, ram ship) are firstclass and very instructive. The Ruyter-class bridge and radome are extremely impressive. 5 stars as in: worth taking a detour for.

This is one of the best museum in the Netherlands. It is well laid out and all the displayed paintings and artillery are so pretty and shiny. The whole marine museum is clean and staffs are friendly. The Tonijn submarine is fantastic and attractive to all visitors and military fans. It is the sole chance which one can enjoy the walk inside a submarine. The whole museum is well reserved and it has Dut/Ger/Eng description. This is a great museum which one should come back again and again.

Great Museum. We really enjoyed the different parts - including 2 actual ships and a submarine. Had never been inside a submarine before - was really fascinating. The history of the navy had great displays in a separate building. All the major educational plaques were in Dutch and English - very easy to understand.

Interesting museum about the history of the Royal Dutch Navy. The museum.is not very big but there is a lot to see. The biggest (and most interesting) item on display is the submarine Tonijn. Which is one the ships of the previous class of submarine (Potvis klasse) who served in the Dutch navy. There are also two other ships you can visit. There were a lot of interactive displays which is always nice for children. The museum is quite cheap in my opinion, costing only a little bit more than 10 euro for one adult.

Super maritime museum with lots of cool ship models and information done in an interactive way. The chance to get aboard a submarine was quite an experience. Certainly worth a visit.

Very nice museum with lots from the origin up to the recent past of the Dutch Navy. Including many inactive games, complete ships to visit and many items from older ships on display. Parking is free and plenty. For EV's there is no charging on site. But there are chargers nearby in public parking spots.

Great museum providing for an opportunity to squeeze into the real submarine, to enjoy a short wonderful performance, to learn more about Marva (female marine corpus), to take part in a quiz (for kids) and get a small present 🎁, to get scared visiting 3D radar. Free parking. Very dedicated volunteers. We spent there 3.5 hours! :)

We had the most remarkable experience while visiting the Marine Museum in Den Helder. From the moment we stepped in, it was evident that this museum was something special. As we explored the various exhibits, I was thoroughly impressed by the level of detail and information presented. What truly stood out was how engaged my kids were during the visit. They had taken the initiative to research about ships and warships beforehand, and their excitement was palpable as they eagerly shared their newfound knowledge with me. It was like having our own personal tour guides, and I must admit, I learned a lot from them! The museum itself is quite expansive, featuring an impressive collection of naval artifacts, models, and interactive displays that span various historical periods. The attention to detail and the effort put into creating an immersive learning experience is truly commendable. From intricate ship models to captivating exhibits on maritime history, there was never a dull moment. One of the things I appreciated most was the way the museum caters to visitors of all ages. It's not just a place for kids to have fun; it's also a treasure trove of information for enthusiasts and history buffs. The layout of the museum allows for easy navigation, and there are plenty of opportunities to engage with the exhibits hands-on. I do recommend allocating a generous amount of time for your visit. With so much to explore, you'll want to take your time to fully absorb all the fascinating information. The size of the museum can be a bit overwhelming, but it's definitely worth the investment in time. Whether you're passionate about maritime history or simply looking for an enriching family outing, the Marine Museum in Den Helder is a must-visit destination. In conclusion, my family and I had an exceptional time at the Marine Museum. The combination of informative exhibits, interactive displays, and my kids' newfound expertise made it a truly memorable experience. If you're seeking an engaging and educational adventure, this museum will undoubtedly exceed your expectations.

A very impressive experience. It is exciting to marvel at the technology, and development of shipbuilding and technology. What is also striking is that the Stuff are very friendly and helpful. They speak Dutch, English and German. It is worthwhile to visit this museum.

Great museum with unique collection but what is even better with really great staff (retired sailors) who know and want to guide you on their ship/submarine. English friendly.

Free to enter for military service people! Shows the history of the city as a port and naval facility, and how the locals lived and worked over its history. The Submarine was also very cool, and the ships and guns on display outside are well preserved. Also dont forget to visit their gift shop!

This is a great museum which starts with a section filled with lots of historical knowledge. You then continue into a real submarine! After that you can head outside to the ship area and go into the exhibition area where you will find lots of interactive experiences and games for kids and some for adults. Pretty amazing place, almost too big :)

  • 5/5 Michael K. 1 year ago on Google
The statement at the entrance "You can touch everything" makes this museum a special place. You can sit on real AA guns, play commander of a warship, lie down in the beds of a submarine and many more things. There is a simple paper chase for kids which keeps them motivated. We were surprised how much time you can spend there. Highly recommended.

As a military buff myself I expected to see and do more (more ships). The submarine is the only real main attraction. The Bridge section De Ruyter was closed and we weren't able to view it but got charged full price. A few weeks ago I visited the amazing National Military Museum and didn't have enough time to see and go through all as there was simply so much to do and see and super interactive for adults and children. Sadly this museum was over in less than 2 hours at a stretch. Many of the outdated interactive stations buttons didn't function especially if you changed the Language option. The museums restaurant was also closed so I recommend you either take your own food with or make use of the many restaurants which are easily within walking distance next to the museum. The staff were however very friendly.

It’s a beautiful navy base visit. I enjoyed learning and operating marine vessels and added experience is you get to talk with veterans about there ship and how the dominates Dutch sea boundaries. You would require at least 3 hrs to spend time here plan accordingly. Kids will defentely enjoy it

Probably this is one of the most popular places in Den Helder. Here you can discover the history of the Dutch Navy. The highlight of the exhibition is the submarine, so you can dive inside and feel the atmosphere of being a marine.

They have a submarine just outside that you can visit, did you notice that? take your time and go thorough it, it is a very nice attraction. Some serious navy history here. Besides that the museum is great and if you take your time and go to the next building it is quite interactive. We definitively would like to comeback.
