The museum has an interesting collection of stuff pertaining to Uruguayan history. I particularly liked the paintings of historical events and battles. However, the items are not organized very well and the only context is some very long tedious Spanish explanations. (My Spanish is near fluent but these were hard to read.) But this is a worthwhile place to visit if you enjoy paintings of historical events.

Casa Fructuoso Rivera Rincón 437 (Barrio Ciudad Vieja) Montevideo.

This museum, located in the old City of Montevideo, Uruguay, connects with the former beliefs of the country, in the moment of independence and the elaboration of the constitution. There are pistols and revolvers, clothing and a necklace belonging to Bernardina, Fructuoso Rivera's wife, made with his hair! (A trend brought from Victoria's England Queen). Moreover, the history of duels, with the letters of encouragement and acknowledges. As Uruguayan, it helps to build the bounds among the characters that fought for the independence as well as refreshing dates and names. I recommend to visit the ex government building located on Independencia square. There is stuff of Fructuoso Rivera and his wife. He was the first president of Uruguay, and pitifully, he order to kill our indigenous. I consider knowing all this is to better understand our present.

Former residence of the first president of Uruguay, general Fructuoso Rivera. The exposition covers a period from establishing Uruguay as an independent state till the first decade of the XX century. A hidden photo opportunity: stand at the bottom of the spiral staircase and point to the top: you should be able to capture an eye-like image. No entrance fee.

(Translated by Google) The museum works where Fructuoso Rivera's house was. It is a huge house, where you find many pieces of a historical nature and military assets. It is very interesting and at least once in your life, you have to go and see it.
