I recently stayed at this stunning 5-star hotel and was captivated by its beautiful ambiance. The staff, however, could benefit from more training in facilitating guest programs, such as the gambling and cocktail vouchers. While the room had an overall acceptable standard and boasted a breathtaking view, it faced significant plumbing issues, like a running toilet and a clogged shower drain. Despite these challenges, though, the hotel's charm and aesthetic were noteworthy, which is why i have 4 stars.

We stayed here quite by accident, due to a delayed international flight. The building itself is a Montevideo icon that lay abandoned for many years and was renovated/given new life. The location couldn’t be better, across from the beach and contiguous to the center of Carrasco. Lots to commend the place architecturally and its context. Menu choices at the hotel restaurant and bar are limited and expensive— there are very good restaurant and cafe options within two blocks of the hotel. The room we had (and there are a variety of them; so take this into account) was spacious, with high ceilings and with a great view. The negatives are primarily ergonomic — lighting controls are nothing short of a nightmare to figure out what lights they correspond to; the illumination of the room is poor; the shower and bath are very nice, but towel bars are absent and no grab bars for anyone a bit unsteady on their feet; no desk for anyone needing to work; and electrical outlets in the wrong place. We were comfortable for sure, but note the shortcomings in case they are relevant to others.

Hotel is very beautiful but way overpriced, not good service and, took a cold shower because there was maintenance. Imagine stoping for one night to get to know the town and continue on our roadtrip the next day, pay +300 usd a room (x2) and, take a cold shower. Hotel didn't even care to give a discount or, benefit due to inconvenience… Rooms are fine but, nothing extraordinary. Breakfast regular. Can’t deny the places architecture.. Recommend it for a visit, not stay. Showers have no privacy therefor… take it into account.

A great piece of history that you can't miss, a 102 years old luxury hotel totally upgraded, great service and great breakfast, fantastic and safe location, restaurants and nice beach walks. Close to the airport. Thanks to Manager Maria del Mar for all her support and advice.

Probably the most luxurious hotel in the capital. The property feels a bit dated but the rooms have been modernized. Beautiful views of the Sea especially in the morning. Lots of great restaurants a short walk away, but the casino has seen better days.

Good town location. Super chef, staff, bar. Room is too neo-euro with bath-drenching shower, few drawers.

Gorgeous hotel. The location is a bit sleepy compared to the rest of Montevideo but an excellent choice when departing from Carrasco airport the next day.

The entire stay was excellent. From check-in, hotel bar, spa and dining gave first class service. I highly recommend.

We just finished our fourth stay in this hotel situated in an emblematic historical building. Special thanks to Mr Martin Pena and his staff for the warm and efficient welcome and our gratitude for the nice upgrade. Our room had views over both the Rio de la Plata and the peaceful neighbourhood of Carrascos. The large and comfortable room makes you feeling home immediately. We have enjoyed the indoor swimming pool for relaxing after a day of traveling. The ample breakfast options make a perfect start of the day. For us this location is perfect as the hotel offers the tranquillity of being outside the hustle of the city yet the blocs around the hotel offer plenty of dining options and going downtown is easy by bus or taxi. Without the slightest hesitation we will reside again in the Sofitel Carrasco and can recommend it to all travellers.

Amazing hotel, totally recycled. There are thousands amazing pictures from the outside, I'm adding one from the bathroom, totally renews. Besides this, the Hotel is inserted in amazing neighborhood with plenty of bars and pubs.

Majestic renovated historical building in the main avenue. In the borough of Carrasco, a very traditional postcard like place with several excellent nearvy restaurants.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff spoilt by sub-standard rooms. No fridge, no minibar and no safe. Carpet flooring was dirty, fittings were old.

Beautiful old beachfront Sofitel, with stunning sunset views a few steps away. Great buffet breakfast.

Building is beautiful, and rooms are spacious, and well decorated. Internet speed is ok for email, but not so much for videoconference. And your far from downtown and main walking areas.

Look, I usually stay at the Hyatt Centric, but I decided to give the Sofitel a chance the last time I was in MVD. I got an awesome sweet and the location was fantastic. Right near my office there. My room was huge, great view, large living room, an amazing bathroom and a great bed. I have a few gripes though. The casino is terrible. I have been to a lot of them throughout the world, from native American casinos, to the best of Vegas, but this takes the cake as the most brutal. The dealers and tables are so meh and the service in the casino is brutal. The pool area needs to be refinished. It's dated and needs some TLC. It's expensive for MVD. I wish Google would allow us to give 1/2 stars because I would really rate it a 3.5-star property based on the price and amenities versus the Hyatt. The casino drives down the rating quite a bit. I personally would choose to try some of the new properties the next time I'm in MVD.
