Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3. Here Paul refers to “the day of Jehovah.” In these verses, the day of Jehovah refers to the period of time that will begin with the attack on “Babylon the Great,” the world empire of false religion, and end with Armageddon.​—Rev. 16:14, 16; 17:5. Just before this day arrives, the nations will proclaim: “Peace and security!” Sometimes political leaders use similar expressions when talking about stabilizing international relations*. However, the proclamation of “peace and security” that the Bible speaks of will be something special. Why? At that time, people will begin to feel that world leaders have made the world a safer place. But in reality they will be suddenly destroyed (Matt. 24:21).
