Very comfortable hostel with a beautiful and cozy front yard. Not suitable for people who want to party of even have a drink of their own. In Majdas you can't make any sort of noise after certain hour. And by no sort of noise, I am talking that you can't even whisper, nor stay at the front yard quietly, because the staff will come and ask you to come inside, as if they were your mother. Bummer!

Had a brief but TERRIBLE welcome here and would HIGHLY recommend staying away. When I arrived for check in, I really needed to sort out a situation asap. I had lost my phone and my passport and the help I needed required a simple phone call to be had in Bosnian language since I do not speak it. I was told I need to leave because they could not help me but they easily could have but just did not want to. Its important for me to note that I wasn't some random off the street asking, I did have a confirmed booking with them so I was going to be staying there. The older lady did try to help me somewhat so I cannot fault her, only issue was she does not speak much English at all and neither did the other man that was there. The daughter however was the one that did speak English so I was put onto her. She was rude and very unpleasant. She showed no empathy and she did not care. She was more than happy to leave a young female, on her own, in a foreign country with no phone, no passport and on the streets. I could not believe the lack of compassion. She could see I was absolutely distraught and would not allow me to make another call to other hostels. I never got to stay here so i cannot speak about the actual hostel itself but this is the worst hospitality I've ever received and this is only time I've been refused help. However, I can recommend you an amazing hostel called Dino Hostel. I was welcomed with nothing but loving and open arms, the owner is an absolute gem!!! She helped me out right away, no questions asked. I now have my phone and passport back and a beautiful welcoming hostel.

It was the best hostel I ever stayed in. The owner is super friendly and lovely. She welcomed me with a bowl of hot soup as it was so cold on that day. And always have a big smile when you back to the hostel. I could just say that it was more than a hostel ! No complaints for three nights there.

This place is not even a hostel, it's an institution. They are famous with backpackers all over the Balkans for Majda's warm welcome (and delicious homemade food) and Bata's tour of the nearby places. The tour may seem like it's the same sold around the city, and it does go to the same places, but it's unique because of the experiences he shares about the war, exile and his life now in a divided city. A few years later, it's still one of my most cherished travel memories.

One of my best hostel experiences ever. The owner is amazing and she has incredible experience with her hostel. Location is perfect, she will be super helpful and tell you everything about Mostar. Rooms are confortable, really good bathrooms, super clean and there is breakfast too!! Couldn't ask for more. Will definitely come back.

I had a truly memorable stay at this hostel. The owners are welcoming and loving -- I honestly felt that they went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Taking the guided tour is probably the best way to get a full sense of what Mostar and the neighboring towns and villages are like.

Normally I only write reviews on hostel world but i feel as if I need to tell everyone one I meet about this hostel. In 7 months of travelling I have never experienced a hostel like this. From the moment i walked in I felt so at home, plus i was offered tea and given some homemade rice pudding. Everyone working here really cared about the experience of the guest and great everyone by name. I felt so loved and cared for. I even extended my stay even though I had promosed myself i wouldnt because of my stricked schedule. Please come to this hostel. Come to bosnia just for this hostel. You wont regret it

One of my favourite hostels in the world. Beautiful little place run by amazing people. Majda is so lovely and warm, and her cooked breakfasts are fantastic. Bata’s tour is legendary, taking you around the wonderful sights of Herzegovina for 12 hours, and worth every penny (plus you get more of Majda’s cooking afterwards!) Only 5-minute walk from the bus/train station and a 10-minute walk into the old town. Air-conditioning in the rooms, comfy beds, loads of showers and a great common area inside and outside. I was here last year, returned this year and no doubt will return again in the near future. There is an aura of calmness here that can’t be explained. After a long day traveling to arrive, I was sat down and served soup and tea. Exactly what I needed. Can’t recommend enough.

Absolutely unique and faultless. Majda (the owner) has tought about any possible detail that should be in a hostel/guesthouse and created a very special place. Everywhere in the hostel I've noticed the touch of a very creative and carefull person, everything is very clean, the garden is so green with full of various plants. For the newcomers there is always a bowl soup ready, the breakfast is tasty and tea/coffee available. Thank you to the all staff of Majdas and special thanks to Majda!

Definitely the best place to stay in Mostar, you need to take the tour. It's by far the best tour I've ever done and like nothing you could ever experience on your own. Most people who come here stay longer than they expected, so be prepared to truly love a place that makes you feel at home and really is the definition of "chill". I have stayed in hotels, Airbnbs, and hostels over the years, and want to come back here because it's an experience like no other. You can book a private room via hostelworld if you prefer that, and the room and shower are really nice, rivalling other hotels and Airbnbs in the Balkans.

Horrible owner. I advised the hostel that I would be arriving late. an hour later he called to cancel my entire reservation as I was arriving after 10pm, leaving me homeless. Discusting management I would not want anyone to be left in the same situation in serbia.

The hostel expected all my expectations. It’s an amazing experience to stay there. The owner is really friendly and welcoming. She makes great breakfast and helps you whenever you need something. From the hostel you can take some day trips. All the rooms are really clean, the house has a beautiful big garden and you feel as if you were at home! Definitely one of the best hostel I’ve been to! Highly recommended for all people who want to feel as home, chill out and relax

Hostel Majdas As you enter, you will feel like you’ve been transported to your childhood home, with Aunt Majda ready to welcome with a homemade elderflower drink. The property has a large garden, foyer flanked by fruit tress and plants. Also, remember when it was so carefree to hang out with the kids from the block? This is a social hostel, where you will become friends easily, actually get to know each other, chill next to the old town bridge with a beer, dance at the cave club, cancel your bus to Belgrade to go on a trek to Albania with your new travel buddies! Every morning, Majda would cook the most delicious breakfast with tea, coffee, homemade jams, hot breakfast individually! The rooms and common areas are cleaned impeccably. The dorms have spaced out individual beds with ample bathroom stalls and showers. The private rooms are equipped with a nice shower, refrigerator, and an AC (even clothes hangers!) At the end of the stay, you will feel like you have underpaid! If you want to experience the best hostel in the world, really, come here. After 8 days here I feel compelled to write this review because it will be a pity if you do not have this experience. PS: Bata, Majda’s brother, runs a personal-touristic tour. That in itself is worth going to Mostar for. You will be exposed to sadness, disbelief and happiness, humor at the same time. It is mind blowing. Majda+Bata ⭐️ ♾ ⭐️

We stayed here for 3 nights, initially planned for 2 but it was just too nice to leave so soon. Very welcoming, offering good food, a lot of history and stories of the city, and the place - we appreciate every single bit they shared with us. Also, if you get to go on a day tour with Majda’s brother, DO IT! We usually never go on these organized tours but this one was amazing, made by locals with locals, veeery fair price and an amazing vibe from start to end. Much love to Majda and her family♥️

Absolutely fantastic, the best hostel I have ever stayed at. The facilities are clean and it’s very obvious Majda puts her heart into running the place. She definitely makes the effort to get to know everyone by name. The floor is spotlessly clean, there is a plate of breakfast for each person, and the vibe is overall very homely. The common areas are great and the garden is super cozy. Apparently they have downsized as a result of the pandemic so expect single beds. The lockers are rather small (6x6” opening) so no bags will fit in, really only meant for wallet/passport etc. the location is excellent and means that you have a 5-10 minute walk to the bus and train station. Highly recommend.

Best hostel I've stayed in. Every bed's a bottom bunk. The place is cosy like home. Majda the host makes a wonderful breakfast in the morning and puts in so much work to keep the place clean and tidy all day. It's 5/5 in all ways.

A sociable hostel (not a party hostel if that’s what your after) that when you walk in it reminds you of home, the small things like having your doona pulled up, bedside light turned on at night, lemonade on arrival and freshly brewed tea at night. I stayed here 4 years ago and had an amazing experience, nothing has changed, it’s a special place. Free breakfast is provided daily with homemade porridge being a staple and then a plate with rotating dishes which could include burek, French toast, jam on toast, ajvar on toast and a side of fruit. Homemade tea and Bosnian coffee is also on offer. The rooms have single beds which are extremely comfortable, amazing location and Maita and the other ladies do everything to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. If you stay here make sure you do Bata’s tour, one of the best hostel experiences on offer out there which will provide great context and education to Bosnia’s history, dinner is included is ready on your return from Maita.

Very good and welcoming atmosphere in Hostel Majdas. They organize a tour to the Kravice Waterfalls and during the tour the guide tells a very interesting, personal and moving story about the wars in Mostar and Bosnia.

  • 5/5 Adrian M. 1 year ago on Google
An exceptional small family-run hostel experience. Rooms are single beds, towels changed daily, lockers for valuables downstairs and torches on keys. The hostel is always very clean. Breakfast is made daily fresh, washing available for €6 and the tour is an exceptional. The hosts have downsized the number of beds at the cost of income to maximise comfort to guests and ensure a more personal experience, and would recommend booking in advance if you know you want to stay. During your stay, you feel like you have been welcomed into the home of Majda, her mother and brother, Bata, who hosts the tour. They put amazing effort into ensuring you have a good experience, and it feels like you are joining their family during their stay. The hostel is social and has a great atmosphere, and come here if you want a wholesome experience of Mostar and it’s history and people, but it’s not a party hostel.

A home away from home. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Majdas was so lovely and welcomed me with tea and soup on arrival. Her place is so cosy and comfortable and the hospitality is off the charts. I loved my stay so much and was sad to leave.

(Translated by Google) Hostel well located 5 minutes from the bus and train station and 7-8 minutes from the old town. It has excellent facilities: beds, showers, bathrooms and clean and cozy common spaces. They receive only cash (€ or frames), have Wi-Fi and there are safes if you need to leave things. The best thing is the hospitality of Majda and the people who work with her (on arrival I was offered iced tea and typical soup) and the atmosphere that is generated among the guests. It is also very cheap, I arrived without a reservation and paid € 9 (in high season). If I went back to Mostar I would stay 2 or 3 nights there. Si volvería a Mostar me quedaría 2 o 3 noche ahí.

Without any hesitation, I can say that Hostel Majdas is the very best hostel I have stayed thus far (and believe me I have experienced many of them). Madam Majda is a truly genuine lady who will welcome you with her beautiful smile and treat you like her best friend. I really felt at home here and I will never forget my amazing trip to Mostar. I WAS LEFT ALONE AND SCARED ON THE STREET OUTSIDE THIS HOSTEL AT 4AM. My friends staying in the room beside me were asked to leave this hostel at 4am, because they brought another person into the hostel. They apologised repeatedly and admitted their mistake but were told they had to pack and leave immediately. I went in my pyjamas and asked Madja why they were asked to leave. I was told that I was disturbing the peace and I had 5m to pack my bags and also leave the hostel, despite the fact my travel companion remained asleep in our room. When I tried to return to my room, I was physically shoved away from my room and threatened by the male employee working there. I was told the police had been called. Eventually her employee had to be restrained from assaulting me. As a result, myself and two friends (all 22 yrs old) were left in our pyjamas on the streets of Mostar with no place to go and no data/calling minutes (as is common in Bosnia for travellers). To say I felt scared was an understatement. To put me in that position as a young, vulnerable woman who does not speak the language nor has any way to contact family/find help is unacceptable. Madja told me she would show us somewhere else we could stay, but she did not follow through on this promise. To not offer us alternative options left us stranded and showed no concern for our well being. I understand that breaching hostel rules is unfair to other guests, and that the rules are clearly stated around the hostel. Nevertheless, it was a gross breach of host responsibility and care. I would expect more from an establishment that is so highly reviewed as a professional and reputable hostel. Nowhere was it made clear in the rules that to bring in guests would result in immediate expulsion. I had yet to pay for my room due to a miscommunication on arrival (Madja was not there for me to make payment when I arrived, so I placed a deposit for a key in the meantime), so any claim that I did not pay for my room on purpose are untrue.

The best hostel I've ever stayed in. If anything, I'd recommend spending the night in Mostar just because of this place (but also because the city is really nice, people are welcoming, and it's a beautiful place where everyone has a moving story to tell).

Majdas hostel and batas tour are a must for mostar. I'm an Irishman I come from the land of the hospitable, majda thought me that I was wrong. If you come to mostar and do not stay here the fault is your own. I cannot stress this anymore, this is by far the most amazing hostel and most beautiful people I have met in my life. If you truly want to experience mostar stay here and meet its people.

Don't forget to take crazy Bata tour. Easy to socialize with backpackers from different countries. There is more probability that you might want to extend your stay.
