Location is excellent, near the port, but secluded enough to not be in the main tourist paths, in the shade. They didn’t bring water to the table, something we got used to by default in Crete, so that was a bit disappointing. The service overall was good though, staff is responsive and accommodating. The prices are a bit higher than usual, but considering the location of downtown historical Chania, it’s expected. The food was good, but not great. Some traditional recipes all around but nothing to stand out. The house wine is excellent though 😀 Overall experience was good, but nothing to mention as standing out. We’ve actually had better at some local tavernas, much less pretentious.

We went there after reading positive reviews in Google. The service was ok, we did not have to wait too long to be sitted and to order. We had the stuffed wine leaves, aubergine dip, fish egg dip and chicken gyros. The stuffed wine leaves were hot as if they have been in a microwave and didn't have much taste and chewy. They were not good. Aubergine dip was also rather blend and was just something. Other dishes were average and not spectacular. You could have better food where else for less price. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Nice little alley. Food was nice. Had the Beef stew and Lamb with cheese. Dolmades were lacking flavour a bit. Only thing I didn't like is that I suppose to dress my salad, they give you olive oil and balsamic vinegar in spray.

Wow. Where do I start. We came here THREE times in four days. I think that says enough about the atmosphere and food. But honestly, we kept coming back for Roxy (and the food too). Amazing food, incredible flavours and even better quality in produce. If you’re staying in Chania you must come here. The staff are lovely but there’s no way they can compare to the food. Highly recommend the Pork Gyros. We will be back! Some of the best food we’ve ever had. The staff made us feel so welcome and at home 😌 I seriously cannot recommend this place anymore. Please go!!

A really cute restaurant tucked away in an alley so is easy to miss. But this is a little gem. The portions here are sizable and the food tastes great. We had the Apaki, Cretan salad and the Moussaka. The salad in particular was rather substantial. We finished off with dessert on the house with shots. Staff were really friendly and the vibe of the restaurant was great with the lighting and the live local music. It feels like a place you want to spend time in.

Amazing setting and traditional music. The lamb with cheese and herbs is exceptional, so tasty. The chicken with dates was also wonderful however serving it with rice and chips is a let down, a salad instead of the chips would be better. The biggest letdown was the boureki, flavourless and dry and tasted as if it could be store bought which was a shame. When I told the host she didn't want to discuss it. A side salad with the boureki would help. Still worth a visit for the experience!

Great place, definitely come here! We had the Kleftiko and Beef Stifado, would highly recommend both. The staff was extremely kind and told us the history of the traditional way these dishes are made in clay pots, and showed us the pots in the kitchen. Ate outside underneath grape vines, beautiful atmosphere!

Amazing food, service, location! I went for lunch as female solo traveler and had a welcoming experience not to mention the best lamb I've eaten. Try the lamb Kleftiko or anything that was cooked in their clay oven 👍🏼. Will be back before I leave the island.

Amazing scenery. Nice service. We got invited in by nice lady during day time. Meat food was amazing and tasty. Only down side was the sides of fries and rice which are not so special. Thanks for good food.

A raw experience to Greek culture and cuisine, food was amazing as well as the service provided. Live tradition Greek music made the experience one to remember. Catered very well for my dietary requirements also (coeliac - Gluten Free).

Great spot in the heart of the old town. Delicious food, friendly staff, beatiful atmosphere. It's touristic but in a good way. Loved the sausages, the fresh fried potatoes and the mushrooms!

I had the lamb and cheese in clay pot (kleftiko) but it didnt come in a clay pot which was disappointing. The portion size was small and filled with cheese so it was filling but not terribly pleasant to eat with the chips accompaniment of the dish. Also it was 16.5 euros which means that it definitely was not worth it and i would not get it again. The service was friendly but they charged us for bread that we did not ask for or eat. Also the waiter asked if we wanted a sauce to go with the cretan salad and then charged 4 euros for it.

First of all a very charming lady invites all of guests descripting the traditional way of preparing meals in this restaurant. Olive wood is being used here to get em done. The dish i had was goat meat in wine sauce. It was delicate, soft and meat actually was coming of the bone itself. Tzatziki was a great addition refreshing the leading meat taste. Exceptionally good, highly recommended.

This restaurant is so lovely that we went twice! Lunch is fantastic but our evening experience was even better as there was live music that night. The food is spectacular (especially the Gyros)

The atmosphere and the setting is great. The restaurant looks idyllic as it’s spread between the narrow streets of Chania and it looks very cosy and local. As it comes to the food, out of all we ordered, I can only recommend the chicken souvlaki. The Greek salad is the tasteless one I’ve ever tried on Greek land. Just chopped vegetables thrown on a plate with no seasoning. The calamari were not well-cooked and tough to eat. The bread was still and we asked if they could grill it as it was 6pm and the restaurant was empty but the server refused. The service could be better. I wouldn’t recommend this tavern, it’s overpriced and the food is just the bare minimum. There are many other nice spots to try in Chania.

Perfect location taken down a lane to a traditional area with live Greek music. Location great food not so great, shared a starter then main meals arrived, one vegetarian baked aubergine with feta, the poor quality feta strips had been put on before serving hadn't been baked and were like strips of rubber. No one asked if we wanted more drinks/bread etc and service was very poor very disappointing as location was lovely in old town, would not return here and we left disappointed.

Amaaaazing. The service was super nice and the food was wonderful. We tried Staka (a soft cheese dip that was amazing), Cretan salad (it was huge and we couldn’t finish it) and Kleftiko (lamb with local cheese and herbs baked in a clay pot with potatoes). They brought us dessert for free at the end and finished the meal with their free typical liquor: Raki. It was overall a wonderful experience. It was also cheap and not crowded, a very calming place.

Great atmosphere. Nice and friendly staff. Food was good, all though missing some taste for Greece. There was live music and a lovely vibe.

Lesson learned - if you go for a house wine, always ask a small taster of the each they have, it is totally normal in restaurant. I have been a returning customer to this place, first time was 2 years ago and it was an outstanding experience. However this time it was a bit disappointing. First of all, we asked is rose house wine is good and once recommended, we took a 1l, but it was very disappointing, very sour and strange taste. The fish was OK, but very small. The lamp kleftiko portion also very small. I am comparing with experience of the other Cretan restaurants. Service was OK, but not much attentive, we had to wait longer than usual, making many signs to get anyone's attention. Finally, once we were about to ask for a bill, waiter asked about our opinion, so we shared about the wine. He said that we had to ask to replace the wine immediately if we don't like it, they would do it without any problem. It was good to hear that they are open to find a good solution for their customers. I keep 4 stars for the overall experience, some improvements are needed, and I will return one day again to try something new.

The cuisine offered at the establishment was delightful, but slightly greasier than what we prefer, specially fried zucchini. However, we were truly captivated by the enchanting live traditional music that filled the air, creating a magical ambiance. The location was also splendid, striking the perfect balance between being lively yet not overly crowded, complemented by its beautiful decorations. Moreover, we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves seated without any delay whatsoever. The service provided was exceptionally pleasant and friendly, adding to our overall positive experience.

If you want traditional then come here. We have never given a restaurant review before but felt compelled to do so after visiting To Xani. A restaurant that seems popular with the locals is always a good sign. The restaurant staff was brilliant- very warm, welcoming, and entertaining for the kids. Most of all, the food was excellent. Incredible home-style/ old-style traditional flavors and great value for money.

Very cute setting in an alley of the always picturesque Chania. The food was delicious, especially the moussaka. It was one of the best of many on our three week Grecian adventure.

Decided to dine here because the reviews were amazing and we overheard the lady outside (possibly owner) talking about the preparation of the dishes cooked in the clay pot. She sounded very passionate! The place is very pretty and it has a great ambience this place. The food was tasty but overpriced for portion sizes and wasn’t presented well when served which was disappointed as I love taking photos of my dishes to share with people. As you can see, the Greek salad made the cut but no photos of the main meals.

Tasty place in a beautiful spot. The service was extremely nice and helpful. At the end of the meal we received good raki and desserts. We tried boureki and rabbit stifado- both dishes were really tasty

We can only recommend this nice taverna. It's quiet, with very good service and excellent food. We had beef and chestnut stifado and loved both. Especially stifado with chestnuts is something to try - it has special taste. Portions are big. :) Other Greek food looked there great as well.

The restaurant has great location right in the old town by the synagogue. The food was great. We really liked the mixed salad, cheese croquets, tzatziki, and the chestnut stifado - we are vegetarians. They had plenty of choices for us. The service was quick and nice. The prices are a bit higher than other restaurants around, but not too much. As in other places here in Greece, you get free cake, fruit, and raki with the bill after your meal.
