A fine, gentle unassuming offering from Young's. The Northcote in Battersea is a little quirky, of the shabby chic genre. The beer is plentiful and varied. Only one cask ale on today though (at least as far as I could see). A modest but appealing selection on the menu, wholly appropriate for the place. A most enjoyable drink was had.

Got eggs Benedict, I can assure you, you were not cutting those muffins with a chainsaw. Mate got a steak and onion sandwich. he said it was nice, but the bread was probably heated in a salamander and was average. you'll not notice it after a few beers.

Booked a 'sports table' to watch the women's euros on Tuesday, which they put on the screens but refused to play the sound. We asked several times and were told they needed to message multiple managers to have this approved, but ultimately the answer was no. Which I find surprising as when I attended for the men's euros the sound was absolutely fine.... This was extremely disappointing, particularly after we ordered food and drinks. We ended up leaving so we could actually watch the game properly at another local pub that had the sound on as expected. Really disappointed - please do not advertise a 'sports table' when you don't play sound for women's football.

Gave it 4 stars as is hard to get served as is always crammed full. That said the food here is great...consistently which is reassuring, mostly go here for drinks though or to watch the rugby and it remains one of the strongest destinations for all ages to do so.

Went to this fine establishment on Sunday to enjoy a great game of rugby. Was served by this lovely Australian who’s name was James and he was a superstar, had great service and was really enjoyable to talk to. I would recommend this pub to everyone so they have the pleasure of meeting James 👍🏻

I read a lot online that this pub was boasting to be 'the best in the area'. I was reluctant at first to visit since recently moving to the area. However I have to say this is actually the best pub in the area. The food is fresh and for how busy it was, we did not have to wait that long. The staff are attentive, well presented and look like they actually enjoy working here. I've been here on a Saturday night which had an amazing atmosphere with many ages having a good evening (brilliant tunes). I also took a bunch of friends for some lunch one afternoon and in the day time its warm, inviting and just an all round decent pub. I'm happy to call this my local and will be bringing all my friends and family here again. (Sunday Roast is incredible also)

Brilliant service and the food was amazing. The sausages in the bangers and mash was one of the best I've ever had. Their burger is pretty good too. Quite a trendy place. Make sure to get in early as when I went most of the tables were booked out

Great service from the staff, food was nice and enjoyable. Unfortunately the management within Northcote isn’t at the same standard. There was no Track and Trace procedure in place, the Young’s on tap app failed to work. Thankful the staff were overly helpful in taking our order. The manager on the other hand was not so accompanying. Last orders ring at 20:45 so I order another round for our table of two. Little did I know at 21:00 we were told to finish our beers and clear off. Surely I was allowed to finish my drink within at least 30 minutes. This unfortunately it wasn’t the case I put down my drink and the half filled glass was snatched from my hand by the manager. I knew better than to cause an argument and left the premises to never return. If you want to close the bar at 11 pm then you should be ringing the bell at the very latest 10:30 pm.

Decent and quite standard English pub. Named after the road it is based on. About a 8min walk from Clapham junction train station. Not a ton of seating but this does mean if you get a table you are not sitting on top of other people. Pub is set in a lovely old building at the corner with external seating. Decent range of drinks and nice gin selection. Drinks are average expensive London prices

Sunday Roast! Booked a table for two to try the Sunday roast for the first time, we were welcomed by a cheerful member of the staff as a nice start... We were seated on the first floor, very nice and quiet location. The food we ordered was amazing, we had two roast combination (it seems big but worth of it), water and triple cooked chips... delicious! They are fast as well, I suggest to to order maybe trough their app! What can I say, the staff is helpful and always smiling making you feel welcomed! Definitely we'll come back!

We came to the Northcote one spring afternoon for a roast dinner. I ordered the pork belly which is my favourite cut. The food arrived extremely quickly, it soon became apparent that corners had been cut. The gravy was not gravy as such, it was more a meat flavoured water much like a beef stock. The cabbage was severely under cooked, the potatoes were anemic; boiled not roasted, the Yorkshire was impressive in size but had been in the oven for far too long, or it may have been cooked and then reheated. The pork belly itself was good although nothing special, it was cooked well, lacking only in a crispy pork crackling top. The caulicheese had no bechamel sauce it is purely blanched cauliflower with melted cheddar. Really this should be one star however they did manage to cook some Pork.

The vibe in there were decent. The bouncers, however, were moving absolutely mad and were doing their jobs worth for no reason. The drinks were also pretty expensive, probably won't be going back. I did like the bar staff though.

The Northcote is really the epitome of Clapham (despite being Battersea really). Everyone knows Northcote Road and everyone knows The Northcote. The pub itself is actually fairly generic, apart from being on a busy corner with large windows bathing it in natural light. *The* pub for the Clapham sect (little history reference for you buffs) so expect gilets, blokes called Monty, lots of blondes, discussions about skiing trips etc…..you get the idea. This isn’t a criticism - it’s got a fun and youthful vibe, in many ways it’s a local institution and a must visit. Only quibble is that the beer selection could and should be much better. Given the crowd they really should be showcasing some good craft beer.

The Northcote is a guaranteed good time. By day it's very chilled, a great place to catch up with friends or work from with very friendly staff. By night it gets very busy, with music, dancing and sports on the screens. Perfect to start, pub crawl, or end your night!

A great pub with an authentic experience! Very good selection of beverages made better when served by my new Australian friend James. Experience was definitely enhanced by the friendly customer service I received from James and his colleagues. Thanks for a great session, will definitely be returning!!

If you’ve been to Clapham and you haven’t been to the Northcote… did you really go to Clapham? The food is incredible (the wings aren’t for the faint hearted though), the music doesn’t miss and the staff go the extra mile, from the friendly doormen to the bar staff (shout out to Nick), you’re sure to have a class night. Definitely worth a trip

Had a great time at the pub with Jack, Vilijia, and the team making my evening amazing! Class service and attentive barstaff, always checking in to make sure I'm okay. Food was on point as well, definitely have to go for their lunch sarnies, the best!! Overall, have found my new local!

Last night I hosted an event in The Common Room for 40 guests. I cannot praise the Northcote team highly enough. In preparing for the event, the pub manager, Vili, really helped me plan, and was there on the night to make sure I was happy with everything. The room worked brilliantly - just right for a group of 40. The guys behind the bar, Nick and Toby, were engaging, attentive and, perhaps most importantly, quick to respond to drinks orders. The food completely exceeded my expectations, and I heard nothing but praise about it all night. My compliments to the chef and kitchen team. Everyone had a fantastic night, down in no small part to the brilliant Northcote team. Thank you

Just moved into the neighborhood and auditioning potential new locals. I like this one — good burgers (always a necessity) and decent wine selection with some unusual choices. (I love the Slovenian pinot bianco but tonight I am drinking an Argentinian malbec.)

The pub is situated only 5 minutes walk from the Clapham Junction Station. It has outside seats what makes the place attractive during the sunny days. It is situated at the corner of the crossroads so it is very easy to spot. The interior is nice and at the bar you can chose from a selection of the draft beers. Not all of them are available but it is hot so people drink a lot, I guess ;) Food - we ordered three different dishes. Fish and chips, sausage with mash potatoes and burger with fries. The fish was dark brown and when it was cut it smelled badly. Sausage was so hard, that a knife couldn't even scratch it. Burger didn't look any better. We have been refound but what a pity... I hope that it was only one off accident but unfortunately I cannot recommend the place.

Hilarious experience. Was asked for ID by a doorman. First time ever - I am closer to 80 than 18 !! The guy could barely speak a word of English and had clearly misunderstood what he had been asked to do. Strangely enough I didn’t have my passport with me, so we went off to another pub instead.....

My girlfriend and I went for dinner on Sunday evening while COVID-19 social distancing measures remained in place. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very respectful of social distancing and government guidance. The pub felt very clean and safe, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal. Staff were careful to minimise handling of plates and glasses when delivering them to the table, and the App allowed easy ordering of said food and drink! The food was well presented and delicious - with care paid to my request for a gluten-free meal. I will definitely be returning to The Northcote!

First time to the Northcote for Sunday roast and was a bit disappointed. The roast was fine, about what you'd expect from a pub roast although the Yorkshire pudding was a bit on the crispy side. But when we got to dessert they told us they only had vegan ice cream, and had run out of the crumble. Running out of the crumble is I guess excusable if they were busy but to only stock vegan ice cream is verging on the ridiculous. To add to the problems the menu on the Young's app was different to what they had printed in the pub, the app had both a normal brownie dessert and also something for the vociferous vegans, the in-pub menu was vegan only.

  • 3/5 Amy C. 4 years ago on Google
I’ve tried to go here a couple of times but on both occasions it was packed and suffocatingly hot so I found a more comfortable, spacious pub nearby. I guess the fact that it’s busy means it’s popular and people seemed to be enjoying the food so I wouldn’t advise anyone against it. Just not the place to go if you like fresh air!

  • 2/5 Katie C. 3 years ago on Google
Generally disappointing - booked recently for 2 for Sunday lunch. Firstly the table upstairs we were due to have was taken by others so had to be seated downstairs in noisier part of pub and near the door, which was drafty. We did ask to be moved and a friendly waiter sorted that. Secondly, the waitress taking drinks orders was rude to my friend - she took down the wrong order for wine, and blamed it on us. Lessons in customer service needed! One slice of beef on a £18.50 roast, although the rest of the food was delicious, is overpriced. To top it off, others coming in without masks, not wearing them when walking through the pub, and a table getting rowdy/chatting to other tables. Management dealt with them swiftly but overall not a good experience, given current situation.

Came here for dinner, had a burger and a salad with a side of fries. The salad was great albeit a little over dressed, but very tasty. The burger patty was clearly aiming to be chargrilled however was much closer to charred than grilled and the taste of the meat was lost under the taste of burn. The fries were soggy. Service was fine! Staff friendly and helpful. Clearly used to a busier bar due to Covid restrictions on distancing. COVID safety standards were good. Sanitiser provided regularly. Seating only and tables spread out appropriately.

Only had drinks but the service was the friendliest I’ve received for a very long time in London. Despite it being packed they found space for me by the window. Making an effort to make people feel welcome is not something many places bother doing, but it’s always really appreciated when somewhere does it this well. Being able to charge my phone was a real bonus too! ☺️

I do love this pub but tonight the bouncer used his soggy biscuit mates to deny me entry. They looked liked they were probably called Rupert and forcefully stopped me entering. When I called them out on their appalling chat and lack of SIA badge they started telling me how their dad (who is embarrassed to be related to them and their father) would get involved if I didn't own a Land Rover (I don't). At this point I asked for a real bouncer and along he came this cool 70's (but short) Ted Bundy lookalike with glasses to match but more importantly an SIA badge. When I saw this I knew we were in business but he backed his mates up and that was fair enough. We all left with our tail between our legs and everyone in the queue laughed at us for thinking we could just walk in but I'm okay with that I promise.

After attempting to pop in for a quick nightcap after finishing my 12 hour shift at the bar I work at in central, I was rudely whacked in the stomach by a woman mid conversation with two guys having a cigarette outside. I initially thought she was part of their group, just having a conversation so tried to get past to enter the venue but I was struck in the stomach. This is absolutely unacceptable! If this is the way you treat your customers then I dread to think what happens on the inside of this venue. The woman claimed she was a manager on the door but as a small woman in a plain black T-shirt, she just looked like the other drunk people outside and as a manager, she should absolutely know not to strike a customer!!! As someone who also manages a bar, I really think you need to investigate this and certainly make your welcome into your site a bit better…

Your menu needs a major redesign. Firstly change the : 1 - Spacing between menu items 2 - Main title of the dish to bold, to seperate it from the sides it comes with. The Apple and Fig crumble came with no fig. The custard was cold and the consistency (and I imagine, also the blandness) of baby milk. This was £6.50 😑

A nice pub with a pretty good vibe, most fellow patrons are quite friendly rather than pushy or stuck-up. The staff are also quite friendly and I've had great chats with them. However, the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that they don't have a sizeable selection of in-house mocktails, which is a shame because otherwise The Northcote seems like an awesome place to spend your weekend nights at!

Very frustrating that they don't have any cash drawers so can't offer change. I really think this is inexcusable. Otherwise the food was fine, though the burgers seemed overpriced and the staff weren't the most enthused.

  • 1/5 Tom H. 1 year ago on Google
Pub was great and atmosphere was brilliant during the rugby. Female bouncer was aggressive to non-confrontational patrons and was rude to a Number of people trying to get in. She was unnecessarily IDing and turning away (apparently sober) people that were clearly in their 40s. After witnessing her aggression the evening was completely ruined and we left.

Fun place packed to the gills. Security guards a bit over the top they insisted I hand over my half consumed bottle of water, nit picky - especially with the heat. They were really grumpy which killed the vibe even before we got in.

Ordered 2 single vodka cokes and was charged £25. When I raised this with the staff they refused to refund me the difference and were extremely unhelpful. Would not recommend the 2 girls on the upstairs bar whatsoever, very rude.

I had a splendid evening at the Northcote the other day. All the staff appeared to be extremely close and bonded together, leading to excellent service, (not to mention, they’re very easy on the eye). Management seemed to really reward the excellent production by the employees who delivered my drinkypoos quite quickly regardless of the crowds. The manager was excellent towards me despite my aperol lacking in spritz, getting me a new one. Yet she took her time appearing very flustered by a tall Greek hunk. Will be coming back

I came here yesterday for my grandmas 98th birthday. She is still raving about the young Australian bartender with the dark curly mullet. She says she has never met a bartender who is so caring. The staff were all so kind, and personally came and sung happy birthday for my grandma and then helped carry all the gifts to the car. The food was very tasty and grandma and I will definetely be coming back. Thanks again from myself and Grannie Jean!!

Been here a few times and always have a great time! The manager, Katie I think (sorry if it’s wrong), is brilliant! She is everywhere! Has a sense of humour, very helpful and a great host! While we were there a few guys had had too much and were disturbing a lot of people but she handled them very calmly while they were rude and disrespectful. The rest of the staff were on it too and our drinks and food were great. A bit pricey but that’s the area and London generally, can’t complain. Will definitely come back as they have loads on! Thanks

I can happily say that my recent experience at the Northcote was wonderful. The staff continually go above and beyond in terms of service. The food we had last week was delicious! An exceptional pub with a wonderful atmosphere ☺️

I had the chicken Sunday roast. It was pretty good without being excellent. The portion was quite large. The venue is pretty and welcoming. The service was good. Price-wise, I'd say that charging nearly £20 for a roast is excessive. Plus, the quality didn't warrant it.

Have been here a few times. Overall, the service isn't great. We've been asked to move table a few times due to not eating food and been sat on a table that was supposedly reserved but clearly wasn't (we arent the only ones that this has happened to by all accounts). In our experience the staff can be a bit rude. The food is pretty good. Decent drink selection. Never feel comfortable here though...which is obviously my personal opinion, hence my rating. To be fair, it is a very popular pub but just not one for me.

Extremely disappointing Sunday roast. Served with only 1 carrot and a bit of cabbage as the only veg and the vegetarian option (pithivier) tasted off! It contained no veg just some horrible floral tasting stuffing. I mentioned to at least 3 staff that it didn’t taste right who couldn’t care less and just said that’s how it comes. Left the whole plate of food and the guy who took it away again couldn’t care less with no offer of any sort of refund or even free drink. Seems like a decent pub but definitely won’t be returning for food.

I've just hosted a Christmas party at the Nortchote in their upstairs room and was very impressed. The staff were on-hand, accomodating and communicative. The food was excellent and came out on time and the room was verfect for our needs. The only drawback was at 10 when they needed to let the public use the room and it was suddenly filled with very loud, very irritating people but that can't be helped. Most of our party left at that point as they couldn't hear each other - my only constructuve feedback would be that the music doesn't need to be nearly as loud!

Lovely pub, came for dinner with some mates, food came quick and was great, our server Jack H (as said on the bill) was attentive and helpful in suggesting both food and drinks. Highly recommend.

We organised an early evening get-together with members from our local union group earlier this month. There was a fully-stocked bar and a delicious buffet plus plenty of space for a meeting followed by a more informal social. The staff were all amazing - really helpful and friendly as well as efficient. This is the 4th time we've booked the Common Room at the Northcote for a social and we'll definitely be back!

What a pub! Incredible food and amazing staff. Brilliant for watching sport, having a roast or a great pint. Can’t rate it highly enough.

We went as a small group of friends to catch up over a drink but ended up staying for a bite of food as well. Jack H served us and was on point with personal and professional service always ensuring we had our drinks topped up and that everything was to our liking. Would highly recommend!

The whole team was amazing! We came here for Christmas Day and had the best time. Mia and taylah were amazing and Chef Solomon cooked the best 3 course Christmas meal for us. Cannot recommend enough!

Been coming to the Northcote for over 10 years, really stepped up their game in terms of food and ambience recently. I highly recommend the very reasonably priced tequila! Truly clapham's front room, great place.
