千歳方面からですがグーグルマップの経路案内の第一候補に任せたのは失敗でした。 急で狭いだけならともかく、一瞬フラットな部分から再び急坂になるような、実質的な段差に値する場所の有る急坂。 概ね20キロ前後、出しても30キロ程度しか出せない、というか出すべきでは無い道路です。 その段差に値する一ヶ所で10キロ程度の速度で、 フロントバンパーの前の下を擦って削ってしまいましたʅ（◞‿◟）ʃ 下りじゃなく上りですよ。 車高はノーマル状態です。 なのでフロントのオーバーハングが長めかつバンパー低めの車の方は要注意。 車高を落としている車は論外です。 帰りはグーグルマップじゃなく、車載ナビを使いました。 すると地球岬方向へ向かって展望台から数百メートルの、ちょうど金屏風の所でタイトな右折をする道案内。 するとすぐに普通の広さの舗装道路に。 登別方面から地球岬経由でなく、第一目的をトッカリショにする場合は実際のとこ、こちらの道を使った方が早いでしょう。 また、地球岬を目的にする場合でも、ここから上がるのが最もストレスの少ないルートになると思います。 グーグルマップは此処に限らず、こういう酷い裏道案内をするから、程々にしといてくれって思うことが少なくない。 さて景観といえば、断崖絶壁。 正面に見渡せる海の範囲は120度と言ったところでしょうか。 とても良い眺望です。 展望台ちょい横の所にチェーンを張って立ち入り禁止となっている箇所が有りますが、これは展望台から下を見下ろすと見える側道のような所への入り口で、海岸には漁師の作業場的な小屋のような物が3棟ほど見える場所への道の模様。 展望台とは違う景観を求めるなら、この展望台から数百メートル地球岬と反対側に移動すると視野が変わります。 此処らは数百メートル場所を変えるだけで景色が変わるし、何ヵ所か崖沿いに近づける場所も有ります。 ただ、展望台以外の場所に防護柵などは有りませんので、ほどほどの距離で安全を確保して自己責任で。 ともあれ展望台に車を停めてちょっと歩いてみるのがお勧めです。 一つ残念なのは海岸線に打ち上げられたゴミや漁具と思わしき物。 地形からくる海流でしょうがないのでしょうが、明らかな放置ゴミも有り残念なのでマイナス１。 総じて良い場所でしたが自分の好みとしては、道南金剛ほどではないなという印象でさらに１マイナス。

If you are headed to Cape Chikyu, propose that you drive up to the observatory for a quick layover first! There are less tourists here as well as the area is quite quiet.
