(Translated by Google) Héré Triumphal Arch. This monumental gate was built to replace the old royal gate in the middle of the defensive walls separating the Old Town from the New Town. The architect was inspired by the Roman arches of Constantine and Septimius Severus. War and peace are a recurring theme in the decor. It alludes to the victory of Maurice de Saxe at Fontenoy in 1745 and the peace at Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748. The top of the arch is decorated with statues of Ceres, Minerva, Mars and Hercules on both sides. the leading group, gilded with golden leaves: Fame or Victory, which sounds a trumpet and holds a laurel wreath over a medallion with the image of Louis XV. The marble reliefs depict Apollo and Muses allegories of War and Peace. This building, dedicated to Louis XV, praises both the merits of the militant prince and the prince.

King Stanislas points his finger at this arch, in homage to Louis XV (Original) Superbe édifice qui sépare la place Stanislas de la place Carrière. Does this arch look like the Arch of Septimius Severus in Rome? This arch was made around 1750 was inspired by the arch of Rome. The Arc displays the might of Louis XV with an inscription stating: ""terror of the enemies, maker of treaties, and the glory and love of his people". It contains deities like Ceres, Minerva, Hercules, Pax, Fama, Mars and Apollo. Apollo, the sun god, is of course a reference to Louis. In 1983 was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is definitely worth a visit to enjoy the craftsmanship of the ornate features. Did the Duke of Lorraine, the banished Polish King Stanisława, made this arch to boost the ego of Louis XV and stay in posive favour after he made the beautiful Place Stanisława?
