I am always in awe of the architectural work of the cathedrals and churches in Europe. This cathedral in Nantes is in the gothic tradition. Construction began in the early 1400 century And was not completed until late 1800. In 1862, it was listed as the monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Nantes Cathedral, or the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul of Nantes (French: Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Nantes), is a Roman Catholic church located in Nantes, Pays de la Loire, France. The cathedral is in the Gothic architectural tradition. Construction of the church began in 1434, on the site of a Romanesque cathedral, and took 457 years to finish, finally reaching completion in 1891. It has been listed since 1862 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful cathedral which is worth seeing and more. The guided tours (free) organized by the association of friends of the cathedral are very instructive. The art history student who gave us a tour of the building was very interesting and was able to adapt to her audience and to the children present by involving them. This is a beautiful cathedral in the heart of Nantes. It's imposing skyline is highly visible and it is one of the landmark structures in the city. The footprint of the building is quite extensive and the interior is very impressive especially the stained glass windows, central altar and the main entrance doors.

Too bad it is taken by storm by everyone to sit down and prevent a quiet visit, it could pass the urge for some to go there. (Translated by Google) First epistle of Peter 2, 4-10 Draw near to him: he is the living stone which men have eliminated, but which God has chosen because he knows its value. You too will be the living stones that are used to build the Spiritual Temple, and you will be the holy priesthood, presenting spiritual offerings that God can accept because of Christ Jesus. We read indeed in Scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a cornerstone, a chosen stone of great value; whoever gives him his faith will not be ashamed. So therefore, honor to you who have faith, but, for those who refuse to believe, the Scripture says: The stone eliminated by the builders has become the cornerstone, a stone on which one stumbles, a rock that makes fall. These people stumble by refusing to obey the Word, and that's what was going to happen to them. But you, you are the chosen race, the royal priesthood, the holy nation, the people who belong to God; you are therefore responsible for announcing the wonders of him who called you from darkness to his admirable light. For in the past you were not his people, but today you are the people of God. You were deprived of love, but today God has shown you his love.

But it also marked the clergy's hold over the people over the centuries. (Original) Grand édifice religieux catholique de style gothique. I'm not religious but the architecture is uplifting. Built centuries ago before electricity, engines or powered construction plant. The skill of human engineering, the detail and quality of craftsmanship never fails to amaze. Inspiring.

One of the tallest and possibly longest in Europe. Beautiful abstract painted glass windows enhances the inside architecture of the building. It was fascinating to know that it took over 400 years to build and was nearly destroyed by a huge fire in 1972, but was beautifully restored.
