Interesting places full of history. I would never have guessed that so many slave ships left Nantes. Just look down. This is the story of us all. You have to know it.

A moving tribute to what was the slave trade, providing details about it before, during and after, as well as giving insight into slavery as a human rights issue as well. Plus it's free! I highly recommend visiting.

Powerful way of telling about Nantes' implication in the Trans-Atlantic trade in enslaved people. I had the feeling of standing inside one of the ships that carried people over the ocean. Really intriguing and powerful to walk through this memorial. I like the fact that the city recognises its own role, curious to know if/how there might have been/be reparations.

Very interesting place to have details regarding the slavery!!! And to see that some people have fought this barbarism and that others recognize that it was a crime against humanity...

Very beautiful memorial underground with some work also embedded in the pavements leading to it, subtle but powerful message. There are two entryways, the starting point is by the Pont Anne de Bretagne (or the Chantiers Navals stop if taking tram #1), and there is a lift for those having mobility issues. For in depth understanding of this there is recommendations to got to the musée d'histoire de Nantes, located in the Château des ducs de Bretagne.

Powerful quotes and a timeline of abolition come together in a very moving way. Make sure to read the name of some of the slave ships.

Worth a visit and the time spent walking through the tunnel. It’s right next to the river, so listening to the water, one is meant to feel like they’re under the deck of a slave ship. Good quotes, and as a memorial space devoted to reflecting on slavery, it does its job pretty well. I wish that the signs were a bit easier to read, however. The letters are in silver on an opalescent surface, so I had trouble reading them. Dark black letters would have fixed this problem.

Interesting, unexpected and well laid out! However, it was upsetting to see some kids in a solemn place climbing the structure and treating the wooden planks like a jungle gym, with parents not telling them off.

The other side of the story. The presentation is very clear and oriented towards reflection on an episode in history that cannot be left aside. The posters, messages and quotes attest to a complex historical moment.

A very moving memorial, both unusual in design and very effective. Putting it beneath street level with the concrete pillars shaped liked ship's timbers really creates the impression that one is in the bowels of an old slaving ship. The descriptions and time line are well thought out and detailed enough to give a history of the slaving trade not only that was run from the very river one sees so close by but also the extent and scope of the trade across the world and for so long. Very impressive and highly recommended if you are visiting Nantes.

Must see a Nantes. Very well portrated, the slavery that existed in the world and in particular Europe. The monument explains the unfortunate incidents briefly till date. The name of the ships inscribed on the floor shows the gravity of slavery which existed

A beautiful Memorial. When you walk down the stairs, the interior and sound effects create an atmosphere where of almost feels like being in the belly of a boat. You van read many quotes from famous and less famous people.

Very moving, seeing so many glass (?) bricks each representing a ship with slaves that had passed through Nantes. Really hit home the ridiculous numbers of people that were involved.

I really like this place and the ambiance inside it. Well, honestly, I was crying. Slavery as a forced bondage by others, or willful submission towards our own self deceit, both are just the same old craps.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful place that knows how to pay tribute to the victims of trafficking. The only problem is perhaps at the level of the localization of said place which, to my taste, is a little discreet and not necessarily well announced by the signs. (Original) Un bel endroit qui sait rendre hommage aux victimes de la traite. Le seul problème se situe peut-être au niveau de la localisation dudit endroit qui, à mon goût, est un peu discrète et pas forcément bien annoncée par la signalisation.
