I first tried Grassroots 3 years ago because I lived across the street and now it's part of my weekly routine. No matter what my day throws at me, I always leave class with a smile (and completely wiped!). The Grassroots team has allowed me to find my personal strength and see my potential with their never-ending encouragement and meticulous training. I highly recommend giving Grassroots a try and they'll quickly become your favorite neighborhood fitness family!

Grassroots is a neighborhood gem! I'm so glad I said goodbye to Equinox and found Heather and Wil. They are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and two of the most genuine people I know. I started training with Heather just about a year ago when I found out I was pregnantā€“strength training is such a big part of my life and finding someone who could support me on this journey was extremely important. Heather radiates positivity and keeps me motivated each week. Sheā€™s also laser focused on form which I appreciate. I look forward to working out at Grassroots for years to come!

I recently started attending the womenā€™s strength classes here. Heather has created something special, itā€™s an encouraging and non-judgy community that is very welcoming. And the programs are incredibly well thought through to optimize for building strength. Iā€™m loving it!

I took Alexā€™s strength and conditioning class, and what a wonderful workout it was! It was varied enough to keep my ADD brain interested, and she gave so many modifications in terms of progressions and regressions, tailoring the work out perfectly to everyone in the class. 100/10!

I took a class today with Heather. My experience from walking into this gym was super positive. I was greeted and welcomed. Very clean and organized place. Heatherā€™s core and restore class was amazing. As a runner, I needed this nurturing and relaxing class. Fantastic music, very kind and loving community. Will absolutely go back. Thank you for a very safe and inviting atmosphere.

This is the best Gym! I was intimidated at first to join because I was very out of shape but Iā€™ve been going to the womenā€™s strength classes for a few months now and my strength and energy has tripled. Itā€™s not an ordinary gym, you feel like you become a part of a sisterhood. Weā€™re always cheering each other on and routing for each other to reach our goals. I canā€™t recommend it enough.

Wonderful, family run business. Extremely knowledgeable trainers, attentive to individual abilities, needs, safety and aspirations. Women's Strength is a unique, phenomenal program that instructs women on how to weight train safely and to be stronger than we ever imagined - both physically and mentally. The community that has grown out of this program is extremely special to, and it welcomes women of all ages and abilities. Truly, ALL are welcome.

Grassroots Fitness Project is a neighborhood gem. They truly get empowerment, support, community and that building strength is about way more than just building muscle.

I really enjoy working out here which is a lot to say for someone who doesnā€™t feel comfortable in gyms. Chris is such an incredibly gifted trainer. And the womenā€™s strength classes are inspiring, challenging and fun. Couldnā€™t recommend this space more: Heather and Will have created something really special.

Highly recommend Grassroots!! Group fitness classes are fun and effective, and coaches are meticulous about form and progressive growth. You always receive attention and support throughout the class! In particular, the Womenā€™s Strength classes have created a strong and supportive gym community unlike anything Iā€™ve ever been a part of! Women of all ages lift each other up, lift heavy weights, and form connections inside and outside of the gym. Love this place!

I have been going to Grassroots for over 5 years. It is the single best decision regarding fitness that I made. I have belonged to other gyms, but this is the first that has made a difference. Heather and Wil are knowledgeable in what works for you and supportive of an individual's goals. Our entire family have seen benefits in our personal health and goals. My sisters have now even joined (and they live in another state!). My son started here while in middle school to increase his strength to support his rock climbing, my husband for flexibility to support his golf game, and me to bring back my health, strength and well-being! I would not hesitate to recommend this gym to anyone, whether 10 years, 30 years, 50 years or 70 years.

Having lived in NYC for 28 years, I've tried every fitness class and every new fitness pop up! However, Grassroots Fitness, owned by husband and wife duo Will and Heather, is the one work out place that truly feels like a second family. Once you walk through the door at GF, you are immediately greeted and welcomed into the space. I first started GF as a client taking privates with Heather. Her attention to detail with her thorough entry evaluation was impressive. I'm not as young and spry as I used to be so we talked about areas that needed strengthening and how were were going to achieve realistic goals. I found her to have a nice mixture of thoughtfulness, with carefulness and challenge. Then I moved over to the Women's Strength classes which are small, group classes (women-only) where we deep dive with mobility, strengthening as well as toning. Women working out together immediately create a natural, supportive bond and the dynamics of each group (no matter the age) I found to be very helpful to gaining confidence to try new exercises that once scared me (lifting heavy weights/doing back squats/bench pressing). I'm also a huge fan of the Core & Restore class that aims to build core strength while also teaching restorative breathing and stretching moves. Because this gym is family run, you get that extra attention that, quite honestly, I found lacking at other gyms. Heather and Will go above and beyond to connect with their clients on a personal as well as physical level. They take great pride in their clientele and that shows.

Grassroots is a huge asset to the community and has it all over the other chain gyms. Wil and Heather practice what they preach and instantly make you feel welcome and at ease, and heroic for working out. This was a huge plus for me as someone with a pre-conceived notion of how gyms might be. The facility is clean and they offer many different types of classes for children and adults. The best part of all, however, might be the trainers and clientele that are attracted to this welcoming atmosphere and add to it. Iā€™ve noticed that Iā€™ve become more confident physically and mentally since training here, and I canā€™t say that about any other gym Iā€™ve been to. You canā€™t replicate the atmosphere here. Itā€™s a winner. You just have to experience it for yourself and I hope that you do.

Picked up Post-ACL surgery rehab for my 12 year old. Knowledgeable, professional, and inspirational. Sessions turned into total body conditioning including the knee PT, and he was excited to go every time.

Grassroots Fitness Project is AMAZING!!! Personalized for all levels in every class (they offer options and you decide which is best for you). Perfect combination of kind, supportive and encouraging. Their small class size, expert attention to alignment, and fun atmosphere is why I have been working out with Grassroots Fitness Project for 15 years. And I have never been more grateful than in the last couple of years. Heather, Wil and their team saved me during this pandemic. If you're curious - TRY OUT A CLASS TODAY!

I have been working out at Grassroots on the Upper West Side for the past few years and I believe the Grassroots team is the best in the business. Heather and Will (owners) and their team are incredibly knowledgable and their classes and programs are always well thought out. The classes focus on functional movement, mobility and strength with benefits that carry over beyond the gym into real life. Heather and Will know each and every client who walks in the door and there is a great sense of community at the gym. I highly recommend Grassroots for those seeking a top-notch fitness experience.

My friends and I have a personalized training session at Grassroots Fitness Project and absolutely love it. Heather is such an amazing trainer/coach. Sheā€™s all about womenā€™s strength. Each session is as challenging as each individual wants it to be. Itā€™s such a collaborative and supportive environmentā€” zero judgement since we all have different fitness goals. It has helped me improve my running speed and endurance, flexibility and remain injury-free.

I say the knowledge, experience and core values of the founders is beyond your expectations. Having been in the Industry as a business owner and trainer for 20 years, I can tell you that GRFP is and has been about their clients health and well being from the start. At the top of their game always with information and customization for best results. Heather Gunn, one of the founders has been a mentor and inspiration throughout the years and you can't be in better hands with her women's strength classes. Don't miss out!

I've been attending the Women's Strength class for the past few months, and its been an amazing experience! Heather is extremely knowledgeable and is able to tailor any exercise to your needs. She focuses not just on strength but also mobility, which is so important to prevent injury. Heather's enthusiasm and encouragement gets me to push myself in every class, and I've been able to achieve more than I ever thought was possible in just a few short months. The women in the class are so welcoming and supportive that I felt right at home even after my first class! I'm so glad I found GRFP!
