We've been searching for a great fish and chips place since moving to newmarket in 2022 and finally found it. The portions are quite large - soft and flakey fish with very crispy but thin batter. Price was also really good. The only thing i wouldn't mind is more tartar sauce. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

No wonder there were so many good comments about this restaurant. Their halibut was awesome! The batter was thin and crispy. We will certainly visit again! Update: We've visited the restaurant several times and recommended it to friends.

This is by far the best fish and chips I've had living in Newmarket. We ordered Halibut and Fries on Christmas Eve for a group of 10 and it did not disappoint. Our family was very pleased and couldn't stop saying how good it was. The fish was not greasy at all (like other places) and it even had the perfect ratio of fish to batter. Even the fries were delicious and perfectly crispy. Thank you "J" for accommodating our family and we look forward to ordering again.

Halibut and chips for $10?! Sweet deal! But it was the Special of the Day. Fish had a very good "fish-to-batter" ratio. Not greasy at all. Didn't take pictures because I was enjoying the food too much!

I had the halibut combo. The batter was nice and crispy and the fish was cooked to perfection wìthout being dried out. Fries were crispy as well. I will definitely come again.

There were a lot of options for fish & chips in Newmarket, but we chose J's Fish & Chips because of location, good review and attractive price! Only $10 for fish & chips - no way! I was very surprised by the excellent customer sevice and how fast the order was ready for us. Only 5 minutes! We did not even have time to leave the place. The staff was very friendly - we had a short conversation with the man who was making our order. For 10 dollars you get delicious fish anf fries with 2 kind of sauses and salt, ketchup (we did not even asked for that!). The order was packed for us in a newspaper (old-fashioned way) and packed in a carton box! 5 of 5! Definetely coming back to J's Fish & Chips!

2nd time there. Decided to give it another try. Nope. Fish way to greasy and fries needed to be cooked more and oil may need to be changed. Will not go back.

2022 October: 3/5 - The definition of food that is 'Plain Jane' in a nutshell... The place looks like a diner (3/5), nothing special, nothing wrong about it. The cook (I assume owner), was very friendly and pleasant (5/5) You have a tv on that you can watch the news (City Tv) while you eat so that was nice to have to pass the time (3/5) The fries had no flavour, no spice, they were cut potatoes that were deep fried...nothing wrong with them, nothing special about them (3/5) The fish was breaded and fried, hearty but again nothing special about it, nothing wrong about it (3/5)

Clean, simple decor and seating. Had the halibut combo. Two large portions of crispy, nicely battered fish with fresh cut fries....could easily feed two people. The proprietor was very pleasant, friendly, gave excellent service. Was fairly quiet so received our dinner quite quickly. Try it, you'll like it!

A very welcoming experience! Decided to stop by since we were in the area and haven't been there in years! And the owner still remembered us as if we were there yesterday! And the quality of their fish & chips are STILL the best in town! 👍👍

My friend and I really enjoyed our fish & chips lunch there today. Fries were hot batter in the fish crispy and nit too thick. It was delicious. Although this is an older restaurant it was very clean I highly recommend

Fresh Tastety and Classic Dinner in Newmarket. One of the best fish and chips I have ever had!!! Their burgers are from the famous Johnny's Burgers, so they awesome too. 100% recommended

Food has always been fantastic, portion size is great. Staff always suggests the best deals for your money, it's the only place we get our Fish & chips!!

Great fish & chip! We split the special which was quickly delivered to our able complete with water (with lemon slices). A second plate was on the tray plus two sets of cutlery. Super value! We will go back!
