For history fans, this museum is for you. Presentation style a bit dated but the content appeals to me a lot more. Along a didactic route and on the very site of the discovery of the prehistoric site laid out by our "ancestors" 400,000 years ago. The moldings on the ground, the cut stones, the bone remains of the fauna, the hut, everything leads us from excavations to reconstructions. Wonderful.

Great to visit if only to see where humans actually existed 380000 years ago. Has a small collection of other objects and some quite good reenactments of what shelters would have been like. Spent about 15min there but we liked it. Has the bus stop to Monaco around corner for some contrast.. Revisited 2022 and still a great little museum..who knew rhinos were in Nice 400000 years ago

Although every thing was in French I could get the story of the event and found the historical significance very enlightening. There is one photo that you’ll see “nailed it.” Not sure how the nail got into the display. 😄

Very impressed by this museum. It's two floors but not too big, yet all of the interesting and important human archeological findings and moments of evolution are explained in great detail there from the creation of various tools to how we know where they used fire. Would be great if they had English translations too but you have cell signal so you can translate.

Wonderful small museum, very thoughtfully laid out, tells a fantastic story beginning to end. 5 euros entry and takes approx 45 mins to 1hr to walk round. All the explanatory cards are in French, so you need to be able to read reasonably well. Hugely interesting, loved it.

This museum is so unique in that almost all the museum is based on excavations that happened at the exact site of the museum. The findings are of peoples who lived 400,000 and 380,000 years ago. The geological perspective regatding what the land looked like over the period of habitation are older and very effective. Plan to spend an hour to thoroughly enjoy the museum. The language is mostly French (very little English) and the displays are such that without knowing much French, they were easy to understand. We certainly saw the oldest stone tools we've seen so far in Europe at 400k years old. Note that this is an older museum and both my husband and I were delighted with our experience.

It is quite small museum but it was very interesting for me to see how the homoerectus were using different type of rocks as a tool, how archaeologists worked in the area and find the paths to find out an animal, tool or homoerectus skull, footprint etc . It can not be interesting for everybody. there were people visited in 5 mins as well.

I would probably not go out of my way to see this museum but if you have time and it is on your way, it is worth a peek. And if you have a city museum pass, then it is included in the ticket and you won't have to pay extra. It will probably take you well less than an hour. It depicts the palaeontology of the region with various exhibits. I really wished they had a audio assistance, but this is a very small museum and definitely not crowded.

A somewhat interesting but disappointing museum. There is no help for English speakers unfortunately- if you go, make sure you have Google translate on your phone, we had to use the camera app to translate the whole museum. Overall, it was amazing to see the history of nice, but it was just presented in a bland way.

(Translated by Google) Small museum, especially because of the fact that 400,000 years ago the first settlement was set up there. The entire project has tried with limited resources and some technology to evoke an image of that period. It's a shame that this is not included in a more ambitious project. And that no effort is made to attract non-French visitors either.

There isn’t really much to see. All the text is in French and not particularly interesting written. The good part: The kids got a sheet with tasks and at the end a diploma for having finished the museum.

(Translated by Google) Austere place with a lot of reading, sometimes difficult scientific vocabulary. Fortunately the children had the game of "track" otherwise they would be bored. Bcp of pebbles, air conditioning down and no archaeologist diploma promised to children. 10 € too expensive for the place. (Translated by Google) Very short but informative visit for children of MS, interesting because first contact with prehistory and first discovery of the first men: what they looked like, their habitat, how they discovered fire and the little ones can touch fossils of animals, teeth , defenses, etc. They enjoyed the quiz given before the visit too. This is a very good little museum in the heart of Nice. At this site, Neandethal people lived and hunted here 400,000 years ago. The exhibits are fascinating. Take an hour or so and visit. You will learn the fascinating prehistory of southern France. Highly recommended.

It could be much better for sure. As there is no much potential for improvement a fair ticket price should be between EUR2 for kids and EUR5 for adults. Overall, Nice city's new (2015) pricing policy for all of its museums is not fair and it has to be reviewed. There might be a significant loss from EU's subsidies, but each museum should be evaluated separately. The cost of EUR10 doesn't correspond to 1 min walk throughout the Terra Amata museum. I did visit it because of its significance, but for that price I really should have visited any other museums instead. I hope to see some development in the city's pricing policy, as its really a pity.

Its the real deal if you're into paleontology / archaeology. I enjoyed the visit. Tickets are free to Nice residents. To see some more of the prehistory of Nice you might also want to visit the Grotto de Lazaret, located near Plage de Coco Beach.

(Translated by Google) Small museum 2 steps from the old port, interesting because built on the very place of discovery, the explanations are clear and there are models reconstructing prehistoric scenes that can speak to the youngest, who do not pay the entrance fee. elsewhere (free for children under 18).

It has become a family tree. A better overview of the reconstruction of the site. A leaflet is offered to children to do research in the museum. A guided tour is recommended to really enjoy the site.
