As a Japanese, this place is the best Japanese restaurant in Auckland I think it’s even better than sushi places in Tokyo! I love their passion and kindness, and always caring for us. Their food is beyond excellence. We occasionally go to this place for our celebration. I can’t wait to come back for our next anniversary :)

Best Japanese restaurant in Auckland. Oyster were unreal, super fresh sashimi, everything we had was really top notch. But most of all the staff and service is what makes this a perfect dining experience. Very professional and warm Japanese staff who care about each customer. Truly authentic Japanese restaurant menu and experience, which is uncommon in Auckland. Bookings required.

The best Japanese restaurant in whole of Auckland. Authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. You can tell the chef has great attention to detail for each and every items on the menu. The drinks and desserts were amazing too. Service was excellent. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu very soon.

Delicious, fresh and beautifully presented Japanese food in a cosy space tucked away in the heart of Devonport. If you want to eat fresh authentic Japanese food this should definitely be top of your list. We will definitely be back. Would highly recommend the oysters with the oyster sake as well as the beautiful chef selection large sashimi platter - Oishi desu ne!

The best Japanese food I’ve ever eaten including in Japan. Our hosts were incredible! So polite and made our evening very memorable and entertaining. They really took great care of us and it was incredible to watch them create the dishes - it was food art! Food was out of this world good and not overly expensive. Left very full and very happy! Will 100% be back. Thank you!

If I could give 6/5 stars I would! Blake and I were in Auckland on a whim and wanted anywhere with oysters. Lucky for us we discovered a place with so much more. The food was absolutely exquisite, the care which went into each bite was clear! The service was the best I've experienced, and we felt welcome, attended to and cared for. A totally mindful food experience I would recommend to everyone. Can't wait to return

One of the best meals I have eaten anywhere in the world. Every dish was carefully balanced and delicious. Paired with attentive service and well spaced tables with limited diners at any one time it was a memorable meal. My husband said his oysters were superb as was the soft shell crab. To top it off we left with a gift of an origami swan and flower in honour of our wedding anniversary. I couldn't recommend Danryu more highly.

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Auckland and it's not even close. I won't extend too much as you can see all reviews are unanimous in their praise. All I say is give yourself an opportunity to eat here before this small place inevitably gets too famous and becomes prohibitively hard to get a table.

Attempted to call the restaurant about 5 times over a span for 3 hours for a booking and no one picked up. We decided to take the risk and walk in anyway. Arrived to an almost empty restaurant but the disinterested staff somehow told us the restaurant was fully booked and we should have called in advance??? Ended up going some place near by. Walked past again after dinner and the place was still almost empty. Wouldn't try to come back again as there are many other restaurants who would be more enthusiastic about having our patronage.

Love their (owners) passion! Authentic Japanese I have to say. I am tired of teriyaki salmon or chicken from most Japanese restaurants in Auckland. Also so called ‘sushi’ from sushi shops but not sushi 🤣 This is the place where not only you can enjoy authentic Japanese food but also the service. The owners are such a lovely couple as well. Highly recommend.

Amazing restaurant. Chef is an artist and the foods amazing. Waitress is great and friendly. All sake was great. The plum wine was amazing like out of this world. Had a vast variety of food and all 5/5. Definitely recommended

What an experience! Best service I've ever had in Auckland. You can tell the chef really puts his heart and soul into each dish. Highly recommend!

I'm very picky when it comes to Japanese food but this place is excellent! It's close to Devonport Warf so just a short ferry hop from the CBD. With diverse good quality food, and drinks. On top of that the owners are Adorable, Lovely and Warm. You easily see they like what they do and it's shows. This type of place is getting rare nowadays. Will definitely come back and highly recommended.

OMG. It is an outstanding Japanese restaurant. Can't describe words for everything such as food, plating, friendly staff, etc. Thank you to my friend who introduced this finest restaurant.

Amazing atmosphere and AMAZING food. The balance is always just right and the chef knows what he is doing! Will come again and again :D

Absolutely amazing! The effort and heart that the owner/chef puts into the meals can be felt with every dish. Since it's only the owner/chef and his wife/waitress working due to the current climate, he only fills up a couple of tables so that the quality of his meals doesn't drop. The sashimi is a work of art and each bite melts in your mouth. Agedashi tofu was presented like a volcano. Chopsticks pillow, decor is hand made with care. Recommend if you want the whole Japanese food experience and if you want to support a local owner/operator.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this unique place in Devo: Such a culinary adventure! There are not enough superlatives to define our dine in experiences at Danryu, pictures talk for themselves. Sasee and Kayoko are an amazing team and singular hosts. We felt special savouring their mouth watering meals and being entertained by their bewitching professionalism. The sense of warm atmosphere is on point, you really feel traveling in Japan for the night. Be prepared to be astonished, all your senses will thank you! Also, it's preferable to book in advance.

Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Devonport! Great food and atmosphere. Bear in mind this place usually requires reservation beforehand as it’s operated by only two staff members. Other than that, everything is just perfect!

😠 Something is not going well in this place. Our breakfast was horrible 😁. We asked for tipical English breakfast (the one for $23, the served us the one $30 by mistake… it didn’t help much lol ), tomatos flavourless, presentation was like everything separated, no garnish or similar… at pepper sprink...

🫤 Not a fan. I couldn’t drink the cocktail, it was cloying and unbalanced. We also received our food first and waited well over 5 minutes for drinks - they should really hold the food until you have your drinks with you. No one wants to stare at expensive small bites going cold while you await a bever...
