We (two of us) arrived at 20:45 and the receptionist told us only 1 hour left since the restaurant will be closed at 21:45. We said it’s fine and 1 hr is good enough to dine. However, the staff started to clear some food away after 21:00, but it still charged the same! As a result limited food selection and their staff even started to pack their own food to take away. It was ridiculous, many of us were still eating. The hygiene was bad as some food were slopped and I even saw a staff using his hand to pick up the food to eat directly from the food tray! The food taste was fair but salty, felt very thirsty after eating. Such an awful dining experience….

Got taken on a date here and had a lovely time. Such great variety to the food and the staff are really friendly. Some of the dishes were incredible especially the lamb and mushrooms in oyster sauce

May Sum restaurant offers an exceptional Chinese buffet experience that pleasantly surprised me with its affordability and outstanding taste. Initially skeptical due to the low prices, I was proven wrong—the quality was superb. The variety is extensive, from white rice and fried rice to a diverse selection of vegetables, noodles, pork, chicken, beef, and fish. The inclusion of chocolate fondue, salads, jell-o, and fruits left no culinary desire unmet. Despite the bustling atmosphere and a full house, the staff efficiently found us a seat. The service was consistently excellent, marked by speed and attentiveness. May Sum impresses not only with its affordability but also with the dedication to serious and delicious cooking. It's a haven for those seeking a delightful and budget-friendly Chinese buffet experience without compromising on taste and service.

I’ve never felt this bad after Chinese food. And after seeing the toilets so have other people. The food is bland beige and made me feel rough. You know it’s a bad sign when they make you pay first. Also the chocolate fountain is not a fountain it’s just a bowl of lumpy burnt chocolate and whatever is floating on the top is the sole reason I’m never eating chocolate again. Also non of the plates were clean my chair was STAINED and I’m going to throw up rip you lot that have IBS.

I had a wonderful time at May Sum. The food was delicious and at the price for a session, it was excellent value for money. The waiting staff were courteous and the cooking staff were very efficient. Chicken and egg fried rice were very popular on the day; the trays emptied rapidly but new portions always arrived in a timely fashion. The drink in the shot is a Large Apple Juice and it was more than I expected in keeping with the value for money theme Now I believe you're looking at this review with the intention of going there, here's a piece of advice: Don't go alone like I did😅

Reviews here haven't been that great over the last few months and we almost decided on going elsewhere. To start with I will agree the place could do with a major spruce up it is looking tired in places . The staff I never see any of them smile they just looked like they was going through there daily routine almost like they was bored and never asked if we was enjoying the food or if we wanted another drink which if they did would surely get takings up ? Now on to the food ....... The food isn't that bad to be fare , we enjoyed it if where being honest. If you catch it right when there putting new dishes out it's all fresh and hot . The rice dishes were very nice the noodle dishes good , the chicken balls were some of the nicest I've had in a long time with a excellent golden colour obviously cooked in clean fresh oil , smoked shredded chicken was very good to and the two choices of ribs also good . The only moan about the food is that the little signs above the dishes telling you what's what some were wrong . One said saute chicken and when I got back to my seat and took a bite it was belly pork , very nice but not chicken like I wanted . So that's the only moan about the food I can say , all in all a nice afternoon buffet for a tenner . If the could just get the staff to smile and clean the floor occasionally this would be a great place .

We have been coming here since it first opened. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not Michelin starred and it’s not going to win best restaurant award. It’s a buffet restaurant. The fact that the Big Wok, Red Hot and other Chinese/Malaysian/Thai food buffets in Nottingham closed down yet this one remains is all you need to know. The food is always hot, the trays get replenished before they are empty and the selection is aplenty and tasty. The soft whip ice cream machine is nearly always broken, but it wouldn’t be Maysum if it worked every time. When it is broken there is a selection of scooped ice cream instead. During the Covid restrictions it became a table service only restaurant but it’s now back to being a buffet once more. For an honest buffet restaurant meal at decent prices for an all you can eat system you cannot go wrong.

Nice outlook. Overall experience was good. Serve yourself from a large array of food options that is constantly replenished. You can have as many portions as you want, if you up for it. The waiters were prompt in clearing out used dishes. You are seated as soon as you arrive no delays.

Dirty and very basic....very messy. Well, apparently was ok, the food was good, I have to give them that, but myself and my friend we both had stomach pain after that food. I DON'T RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL! STAY AWAY!

Very busy restaurant and well organised. The staff welcomes you and takes good care of you. Sometimes the waiting is long when you walk in a busy place but u can see them cleaning the tables a prep for new customers. Great choice of food and desert. Great place to eat and drink and enjoy.. keep up the good work guys.

Visited years ago, buffet, felt like there was only fried food on offer. Gave it a second chance as I love Chinese food. Walked in, refurbed! Felt like the space had been opened up, very busy, good selection of food, parking close by. Staff are very helpful and friendly, reasonably priced for a buffet. My only comment is that the buffet could be labelled more.

Unfortunately not the best first experience don't think I'll come again the desserts are just ice cream in cheap tubs, jelly, fruit and a Swiss roll hardly a big variety the food was cold or barely warm and the only I could stomach was the chicken balls and the chow mein cause some of my pork and beef had a fishy aroma to it. Was asked to pay the money up front which I thought nothing off but I see why they do it now £13.95 wasted. Another thing I will praise which is the only reason they can have a 2 star is the staff are friendly.

We've been here lot's of times, only once since they reopened again, the table service was good. We weren't kept waiting as soon as 1 of us had cleared our plate, a waitress appeared asking if we wanted anything else 👌 Purrrfick and value for money £8.50 for all this tasty food 😉

There's always something about buffet style restaurant that makes me uncomfortable, especially when COVID is still around. I happened to see someone took a piece of chips with their hand, and dip it in one of the sauces tray. While it wasn't the restaurant's fault, it would be so much better if the restaurant pays more attention to these sort of things. Anyways, I went there for lunch, and I was greeted by this one female staff member who was not at all friendly—very sour and angry faced that made so almost lose my appetite. I, however, was very impressed by the variety of the dishes and how fresh they looked. I sampled almost every dish, and my favourite would be the pork ribs, pork belly, stewed beef brisket and pork chasiu. I also quite liked the Singapore noodle and the steamed fish. I tried all the soups that they had, and the hot & sour was shockingly sour! Waaay too sour. But, the other soups were alright (wonton soup and chicken egg & corn soup). For £10.45 it was definitely worth the price and the quality (and quantity)!

If you want to be disrespected while spending your money, Maysum is the best place to go but if you want to enjoy your stay and food, I guess you should look for somewhere else. The staff are so rude and care less about anything that yo encounter while trying to locate the place. Try as much as possible to avoid the place if you want to enjoy your food and if you want to be respected.

Basic. Rude staff. Choice of food is average at best, lots of dry chicken if that's what you like. Ice cream machine has been broken for months. Cheap though! 2/10, would not recommend.

I have always loved buffets but this was not it. For context, I am vegan. When we reached the place, they charged us upfront before we had even set eyes on the menu/food. Secondly, most of the food was not labelled correctly. They had 'Egg Fun Yun' under vegan section and when we asked the wait staff they just seemed confused themselves. The manager flat out refused to accept his food wasn't labelled correctly. He said the food was vegan and not to pay attention to the labels. How can I trust a buffet where I don't even know what could be in the food? When we demanded a refund, he refused that too. It took coercion to get him to refund us. He was incredibly rude to us and refused to understand our plight. Moreover, the place while marketed family friendly, didn't feel friendly at all. The food looked sad and there was barely any desserts at the dessert section. 0/10 experience. I would never go again and I will urge all my friends not to as well.

Friendly staff, good selection of food, but unfortunately I wouldn't feed any of it to my dog! No wonder they make you pay in advance! Only saving grace was the puddings. Won't be returning.

Great food and nice people. Very chaotic when you walk in though, nobody to check people in, just someone coming up to you saying ‘can I help you?’ Also think the coke was running low on syrup. Overall pretty good value for money though.

First time being to a Chinese buffet restaurant and the experience was quite awesome. Nothing to complain at all. Beginning with the starters, soups, mains and desserts, everything was nice and no complain with the quality of the food. There are some nice desserts as well. Authentic Chinese Buffet Restaurant 👍🏻

I would definitely recommend MAYSUM. We have visited this restaurant few times as family of 4. Food is delicious, always refilled and plenty to choose from. Staff is hard working, ready to help and friendly. We have also visited as group of 7/9 people and never had issue with finding space. Will be back soon.

First time here, me and my 9yo daughter. The food was lovely and my daughter tried so many different foods. Atmosphere very relaxing. Staff were polite and no one were rude there like I was reading in previous comments. And total bill was only £25 for two of us including two large glasses of juice and one latte. Yes we paid before serving as it is a rule here which I respect, I have not a problem with that. Feel like had totally different experience than some people and definitely will come back 😉 definitely recommend

Environmental health need to visit these place. No star for these restaurants. Food- is cold. Raw chicken. Most of the food are salty as well. Staff- very rude. Tried to ask lemon, they didn’t give which I understand but showing to me that they hide it is unacceptable. Service- rubbish. Very rubbish. Owner don’t want to give lemon on customer. I hope he got rich for doing that. I saw one service crew mopping the floor with gloves after she mop she throw the used water in front of the store she never remove her gloves when she come back to sort the food. So dirty. Utensils are dirty you can see food between the prong. Atmosphere- you can see in the food table lots of dirt and dusty. Table not clean. They segregate the left food beside the ice cream area and stinks.
