A convenient and comfortable 3-star hotel, but at the price of a 4-star. A lack of cleanliness in certain areas of the rooms unfortunately. The rooms are small, sort of like a micro-hotel. There is no hotel car park, despite one being advertised as available on Hotels.com Breakfast is extra and not included in the price

Nice hotel in the centre. Rooms are comfortable and staff can’t do enough to make your stay a pleasant one. Good selection of tea, coffee, biscuits in your room. Breakfast is also very good.

I stayed towards the end of 2022. The room was comfortable, quiet, and clean, with good facilities. It's in a fairly quiet location, but not too far from the shops and restaurants. The hotel felt a little understaffed. This was most noticeable as we waited at the bar to get drinks as the barman disappeared to perform other duties.

Decent hotel, rooms are clean and compact and breakfast is substantial. Could do with ketchup bottles as there was only a bowl of sachets in the buffet that ran out constantly, and no black pudding. Decor is... Unusual and tbh a little imposing theres a bit of a bdsm vibe going on. It was quite easy to hear activity in the hall from the bedroom, unfortunately I think we were situated needs to housekeeping cupboards as we were woken to lots of door slamming around 8am. But for the price this is a satisfactory hotel.

My sister, niece and their husbands, who live in America, flew over and stayed in the hotel for 3 nights for a family birthday. I am from Nottingham and so is all my family. When my American family come over, they always stay at the St James because of its location, pricing and good service. I met them at the hotel several times on this visit and we all had drinks in the bar. I found the staff very friendly and helpful.

Staff were friendly but that was about as nice as it got... Room was super small, you could just about stand in the middle with your arms wide and not touch each side! The ceiling was very low and felt claustrophobic... i have a super fear of spiders and there was a massive one above the toilet (never seen a spider in a hotel before!) and other cobwebs... room was dusty and bathroom was not clean, carpet tatty... noticed the bath mat was grey when it was supposed to be white... i couldn't even stay the night i ended up leaving and going to another hotel. Worst one i've ever stayed in and i won't try again

Obviously an older hotel with some quirky features. Rooms were small but very clean. Nice lobby and restaurant/bar. In general I felt comfortable there and would stay again.

Next to a car park - which is good. On the edge of the inner part of the city, which lends itself to being a tad quieter when the pubs and clubs are throwing out. The hotel is a compact and clean boutique style quirky place. Pleasant and helpful staff. No idea about breakfast, as we went out to eat in the morning. The bar was nice and fairly priced for a late night pre- bedtime drink. Recommended.

Very good central hotel. Just be aware that if using the hotel carpark that it is very tight to get in and park. Unless you have a small car or are an accomplished driver I suggest that you use the NCP car park next door to the hotel

jad a drink whilst waiting for people. nice relaxed lounge bar. Hotel is in the city centre and very easy to get around most bars and restaurants by foot.

Clean room and amenities, though a bit small and dated as most reviews mentioned. Totally reasonable considering the price. Great, great location. Quiet at night, and accessible to tons of tourist attractions in the town. Right next to the castle museum, restaurant and bar. Will definitely book here if visiting the town again!

📌📌Pros - close to town and very central. Just under a 20 min walk from the station and about 10 mins of that are uphill so it’s a workout when you have luggage. There is a multi story parking lot next to the hotel. Cleaner was nice. 📌📌Cons - everything else. This is the worst hotel I have stayed in within the UK. It was appalling. Hotel is old, dirty, dingy and dated and is in desperate need of a refurb which will probably never happen. One lift was out of service. I went to the reception desk 4 times including to check in and there was never anyone there which meant waiting which was annoying. The room itself was tiny, beaten up, dusty and pretty gross. There was mould in the bathroom. I couldn’t breathe properly due to the dust in the heater (see photo). I did not feel comfortable or settled the entire time I was there so struggled to sleep and the staff were useless and refused to offer me another room despite me telling them all this. They kept saying they were fully booked which wasn’t true as people were checking out as I was asking to be moved! In addition they don’t offer anything except shower gel in the room - you have to ask for items in the reception and when I asked the guy didn’t even know what a vanity kit was! Had to ask for water and it came in a reusable glass bottle but given how dirty the entire hotel was I didn’t feel comfortable drinking from it. Breakfast was very average. The ceiling in the dining room was dripping onto the carpet due to the rain and making it wet and stinky and I told the staff who didn’t even think to put a bucket down.

Room had some wallpaper coming off and the bin was not empty. I did have clean sheets and towels. And the rest of the small room was quite clean.

Much nicer than expected for the price. Clean and comfortable with helpful and courteous staff. Some slightly dated fixtures including cupboard doors and stiff shower but really nothing to complain about.

Old and dated. Cleaning was not up to the mark. Looks like sensors dated as well as we had a false fire alarm early in the morning. Good location though, with parking (NCP) right next door, and Castle around the corner.

(Not a review of a booked stay, but a breif visit to the hotel and an encounter with the reception staff) I got lost at the time and was looking for somewhere I'd never been with a phone that wouldn't load Google Maps, so I just needed directions. The minute I walked into reception and said I needed help, 2 lovely staff members were immediately trying to help, pulling up Google maps and figuring it out with me (since they hadn't heard of the place I was looking for) and I found exactly where I was going. I'm someone who struggles a lot with stress in public, so having such an easy encounter with two patient and attentative staff members, doing something that wasn't really their job was just amazing. Really lovely people.

Really nice and cosy hotel! Excellent location and there is also a Tesco 2 minutes away! The room was spotless and the prices were very sensible! Staff were very helpful! I didn't try the breakfast or the bar but it seemed really nice and well maintained! I think the only downside for me was that the cleaners were a bit loud too early in the morning outside my bedroom door but other than that I would definitely recommend!

Stayed for one night and it was ok. The room was clean and tidy. We didn't spend much time there or use the bar etc so cannot comment on the service. Reception was nice enough, has a very boutique feel to it. It's a handy location for most areas of the centre with parking nearby for an additional fee. The staff are knowledgeable and can advise things to do if you need it. It was a little noisy however that was more the other people staying in the next room being inconsiderate. The tram is a little noisy if it's not something you are used to. There are nice touches in the rooms such as complimentary toiletries, tea, coffee, biscuits but also sleep spray to relax you into a sleep. Would maybe use again if we visited the area again.

I stayed in one of the small "crash pad" rooms and it was big enough for me. The first room had a broken shower and the electricity box hummed very loudly when you put the key in for power, and there were hairs all over the bathroom. I was moved to a second room with a better shower but the humming persisted, so I had to sleep with the power off. On the plus side, the bed in the 2nd room was comfy (the first one was saggy and old) and the TV worked well. I requested parking during booking which was ignored as I was told their car park was full (it wasn't - a couple checking in after me parked there) and to park in the car park next door for £14.95 (you can't take your car out without having to pay again either).

Stayed for one night last month with my daughter after visiting friends. It was very comfortable, had a nice asthetic and was in a great location close to the city center. The best thing about our stay was the staff, they were super friendly and made us feel at home. Would definitely stay there again.

I was there for a business meeting so only saw the public areas and the boardroom. It's an interesting building and the staff were helpful, but the carpets at the top of stairs desperately needed a vacuum clean. It was just after 10am so maybe too early for the cleaners. The other thing is the ceilings upstairs are really low! I'm only a smidgen over 5' tall and I could touch the ceiling in the boardroom with my finger tips with no effort, so if you're over 6' tall you're going to have to watch your head!

A great situation for visiting Nottingham. A good bar and breakfast room at reasonable prices. Our "classic room" was very cramped with a standard double bed rather than a king size. Ideal for young bucks but less comfy for oldies. In need of a good lick of paint as decor somewhat tired. No on site parking so overnight NCP costs @ £14:00

Amazing hotel! We stayed one night and got the crash pad. We've been told it might be a bit too small for a couple but it wasn't! Such a lovely room, small but just perfect for someone who's looking to just crash there. The hotel and rooms are very nicely decorated, great location, prices and staff! Loved it

This is the worst hotel in England I have stayed. Staff was very rude & arrogant. I stayed for 6 days. My room was not cleaned when I complained they informed to they will reduce one night charge as a compensation for the inconvenience. But when I was checking out they refused to refund & said since I have already paid they can’t refund. Moreover food was horrible. In addition On 11th December one lift got stuck with 3 girls & no one was at the hotel who can find a solution. They were stuck over half an hr until outside technician arrived. Don’t think of using this hotel. Receptionist on Monday morning the most arrogant person I have met in my traveling history. He need to get basic human skills.

Took my mum for afternoon tea. One of the most relaxing places we have been too. We chatted for hours in a comfortable spot with lovely food and drink. Highly recommend, was my third visit and will not be my last

We had a single night stay in an executive double- the bed was HUGE! Very comfortable bed - no lumps, no dips, no creaks, perfect firmness and clean wrinkle free bedding. Spacious room and small but functional bathroom with shower. Yes it could do with a lick of paint to freshen it up but that's the only criticism. Service was friendly, professional and always available. Food was good standard and we liked the straight forward unpretentious menu. Breakfast was well laid out and choice of eggs available on request. Finally a breakfast service that does perfect scrambled egg! Yes the decor is beginning to look a little tired but it isn't offensive, grotesque or off putting. Overall the hotel was clean, tidy, both lifts were working and there are 2 parking options available. Well located for Nottingham city centre and the castle. If you're attending the arena it's a 15-20min walk depending on your fitness (watch out for cobbles with your heels ladies!)

Employees were nice, friendly and very supportive. Breakfast was fine, except the Coffee, which was not comparable to german filter coffee. The bathroom had some mould in the corner at the ceiling (room 109). There is no possibility to open the Windows. The hotel is located next to the castle.

We LOVED this hotel. We were there only one night, but wished we had the time to enjoy the hotel longer. It's wonderful that there is a parkade next door and we were able to walk and see a lot of the sites so close to the hotel. The style is gorgeous and we would definitely stay again!

I stayed in the Penthouse Suite the night before my wedding and the night of the wedding with my new husband. The room was stunning, and the staff could not have been more helpful with everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious, we'd definitely love to go for dinner some time. The hotel is in a great location for the city centre and very near some great restaurants and bars, and has parking right next to it. Couldn't be happier

We stayed in an executive room. The room was large and pleasant. There was a coffee machine, safe, robes and hairdryer, so the amenities were very good. The room was quiet and the bed was comfy. We had breakfast which included continental and cooked. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located by the castle and conveniently located for the town centre.

Nice hotel although room was on the small side. Buffet breakfast was very nice but found the service regarding tea/coffee a little disappointing and slow. Staff on duty were not very helpful and slow, we felt we were an annoyance tbh. Very handy location within Nottingham city centre, only 15 minutes walk from the Motor point arena and I would consider staying again

Functional place to stay. Staff were very friendly and we received a warm welcome. Room was okay. Bathroom needs modernising. Part of the sink unit was badly cut away, leaving jagged plastic exposed, so the toilet lid could be lifted up. It's also been a long time since I've seen a shower curtain in a hotel bathroom, rather than a screen. I stayed in the Ibis hotel previously, which was a far better experience.

It was a nice place! The staff were lovely and the room was very clean, well stocked, and the beds were comfortable. The location was close to the town centre, although I would not recommend walking here from the train station especially if you are carrying luggage, as it's mostly uphill. I would definitely consider staying here again.
