Famous for its 72 stained glass windows, this Gothic icon is the longest church in the Netherlands. The organ was playing while visiting the church. It's a must see in the city of Gouda.

Amazing audio guided tour of the stained glass windows. Best audio guide i’ve done so far in the Netherlands! Beautiful church!

Let’s get that straight, I hate to have to pay to enter in a church, that’s my general rule, and still I rate my experience here 5 stars. It’s a must to visit to get a deeper in the history of the country through the eyes of the Gouda’s windows friends. More than a church this is a museum, the audio guide is particularly well design and the explanations are very detailed.

Really nice old church located at the centre of Gouda and near the town hall. Keep in mind that it gets closed pretty often. There is a small river on one of its sides and a museum.

Well curated audio tour, friendly staff… and what a building! They really focus on the stories and history of the stained glass windows—the most of any church in the Netherlands, I believe! I was lucky enough to be there while musicians practices the piano and flute, too!

Loved it! The Sint Janskerk (St.John's church) in Gouda is a large gothic church, known especially for its stained glass windows: with 72 of them, it's the church with the highest number of stained glasses in Europe, dating back to the sixteenth century. During World War II, the glasses were removed and preserved in boxes. They were mounted back once the war was over. Tip: get the audio guide, you'll get so many details and interesting facts you would otherwise miss.

The best stain glass you'll see. Incredibly ornate church with a lot of history. Set just behind the town square amongst the winding cobblestone alleys of Gouda. An absolute must to see if in Gouda as is the cheese markets. A breath taking church in a beautiful town.

This church is the longest church in the Netherlands. Museumkaart is valid for free of charge entrance but to see the fascinating view from its roof, you need to pay ten euros but it deserves. If you have time and like to visit historical places, I highly recommend to visit this place

A bit disorganized when we went as it was busy and a queue to get in which did not seem to move very fast. Great audio guide to see the inside of the building and the stained glass. The rooftop tour and vista was amazing, so if you can do stairs, do take the tour. It is worth every penny and more.

One of the most beautiful churches I have been in! The highlight of the church is undoubtedly the incredible stained glass windows which have the most exquisite colours and details. Some of these are biblical, such as one window depicting the baptism of Jesus in Mark 1:10-11 with God proclaiming Jesus to be his Son. Others are allegorical. You could gaze for hours at each window. The audio tour was just the right length, with around 15 2 minute pieces which play automatically as you walk to various parts of the church. Whilst the windows are beautiful in their colour and detail, the simplicity of the rest of the church with the pale stone, olive green wooden roof and plain wooden pews has its own sense of beauty. Aside from the windows the only other decadent piece is the organ which is guilded. We were able to listen to an organist practicing for a concert and the acoustics in the building were fantastic. Finally, it was amazing to see the pulpit at the centre of the church. The audio guide explained this is because Christians believe that the bible is God’s word to us and that the reading and explanation of the bible is at the heart of the church service each week. I was reminded of John 6:68-69: ‘Simon Peter answered Jesus, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”’

This gorgeous St-John's towers over the little historic centre of Gouda. This special church stands 123 metres long making it the longest church in the Netherlands. Most of the building dates from the 16th century and started out as a Roman Catholic church. The real treasure lies within the interior where you can view the 72 stained-glass windows. Most of them preserved from 16th Century. The way the light filters through the coloured glass making a wonderful interplay of light and colours is beautiful to experience. Well worth a visit and have your camera ready!

This place is amazing! The audio tour is a must! It gave so much information on each stain glass window that it was worth listening to. The building is clean and they had clean toilets ad well. The staff was nice and funny while also being super helpful. Recommend going if you have time!

Beautiful church with amazing stained glass windows. An audio help is also included in the entrance fee. You can choose to do a guided audio tour or wander around on your own and have the guide explain whatever numbered item ur standing at. It was totally worth it!

An incredible place with strong energy. Greatness and uniqueness at every step. Entrance is paid, but it's worth it!

would say this is just a “maybe” to visit, because it’s nice but nothing’s really extraordinary. You get an audio guide with ear buds to listen to explanations in your language, but the machines are kind of clunky. Bathrooms were clean but overall the church stinks, like a damp attic.

The audio tour is very good. It isn’t too long but you learn a lot of new things.

Very nice old church in Gouda.this isn't usually my sort of thing but I really enjoyed this experience. Upon entering you get listening devices that tell you stories of the church and stories the stain glass windows depict

Was open to tour and the cost was approximately $10. Lots of steps to climb and when you reach the top those are some amazing views of Gouda. We just went all around looking at the city. The walk back down is all outside at the side of the church. A little bit scary if afraid of heights.

This is the most famous Church in Gouda! Once you’ll enter, you’ll be surprised to see that it’s a marvel of the ancient people. It’s huge and very nice. You’ll find it peaceful.

Huge church with beautiful stained glass, fixtures and amazing organ pipes. The floor depicts the buried from hundreds of years ago to today. Recommend visiting this church when visiting this wonderful town of Gouda. Do not miss a visit to Gouda!

It contains an impressive set of stained glass windows and is an example how the well-to-do showed off their status in society of the 15-17th (?) century. It is an unusually long building.

This church shows how religion important to people. It is surrounded by residential buildings which make you can't see whole of the church from far distance.

Check out the stained glass windows! An audio guide takes you through the story behind some of these pieces.

The self-guided tour was excellent - the Reformation and transformation of St Johns from a catholic to a protestant house of worship was explained in a non-judgmental way that respects both perspectives. The stained glass was exquisite. The tour even touched on the Spanish occupation and the liberation under William of Orange. I've toured many cathedrals and churches in Europe, and this is my favorite for it's treatment of history, it's fine stained glass (which was wisely dismantled and kept in safekeeping during WWII), and it's respect and reverence for the Godhead, for Jesus Christ, and for John the Baptist. Easily the best thing to do in Gouda.
