I could not recommend these lovely ladies enough! They were so cheerful and understanding and you can see that they all really care about the animals! Though I didn’t get to take a look at all their babies (due to COVID guidelines) the ball of fluff I took home with me is beautiful - he is visibly well looked after and so HEALTHY in comparison to those born from over-bred and stressed out mothers. I had been wanting a hamster for so long but I had such trouble finding an ethical breeder - if you are in a similar predicament please do consider Scallywags. They have great stock, a knowledgable team and they don’t have any of the tiny “cute” cages that are completely unsuitable for pets - they have the real deal, spacious ones that a pet deserves. Their system of half hour appointments is great as I got to learn how to handle my new friend and the information pack they provide is fantastic - really comprehensive and I love how much thought they’ve put into everything. Shoutout to Kim who was so helpful in getting me started with my hammie and gave me advice over the phone this morning. I will now be making all my purchases from Scallywags (they offer a delivery service for those of us who aren’t local) because it is so important to support small businesses that are truly trying their best in these difficult times. A pet shop like no other, they've got a huge selection of small pet items, they have a pick & mix section of treats. They sometimes have premade packs, so you can see what your pets like best. And they're labelled for what pets they're suitable for. They also have a little playpen where you can interact with the pets before adoption. We adopted a hamster from there and she's so chill ☺️

I can highly recommend this pet shop. Fantastic service. I bought a hamster cage from this shop on eBay and this seller was absolutely great. Really fantastic service. They really went out of their way to provide the best service from any eBay seller I have used . Buy online or at the shop with total confidence. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Scallywags pet shop so I decided to take a chance when getting my Syrian hammy terry. You can tell they are a good pet shop as all their hamsters are proper massive.They kinda look like small Guinea pigs. It’s obvious that they are well bred and well cared for. It’s very clear that they want their furry friends to go to a good forever home. All the staff are very kind and knowledgeable. I was very nervous as terry is my first hamster but they took the time to make sure I was confident with my baby and assured me they will always be at the other end of the phone. The most welcoming and helpful pet shop. The support they give you is outstanding. You can engage with them on Facebook and be kept up to date with what’s going on it’s full of friendly pet owners. This place holds a very special place in locals hearts and further as they do delivery, giveaways and more. Un like any other regular pet shops they know all the ins and outs of pets, they know the raw facts and how to do things properly and their grooming facilities are so helpful at such a reasonable price. 🥰🥰🥰

Absolutely superb service. We went on the waiting list for a hamster as we had heard good things. We got there and the service and knowledge was incredible. They clearly love the babies and the parents so much. Our little boy is super tame already due to their hard work. The store is well stocked for small animal treats too..if it was closer we'd be in weekly. If we're passing we'll be in again!

This is the best pet shop ever! From the moment we first contacted Karen about getting a hamster she has been brilliant. A wealth of information and support. We had over an hour at the shop going through the proper care and nutrition for the hamster including how to handle my gorgeous hamster, Mr Squiggles! Since leaving the shop, Karen has been available to answer any questions or worries that I have and gave me many tips and tricks for helping the hamster to settle into his new home. Can't recommend this pet shop enough!

Di and her team at Scallywags are absolutely wonderful. She has been grooming my dogs for years and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. She is very knowledgeable and helpful and really cares about the animals. The shop is a treasure trove !

Scallywags is without a doubt the best pet shop in the whole of the UK. The team are brilliant and always happy to help. They are extremely knowledgeable and have everything you could possibly need for your furry family. I have a range of pets including chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters and a rabbit and all their needs are catered for. The dog grooming parlour is superb and manages to trim the nails of our dogs really efficiently (even the most uncooperative one!) Special shout out to Karen who has always gone above and beyond when I have needed advice. Being so close to Scallywags is a huge help in looking after my lovely animals. Scallywags is hands down the best pet shop I have ever been to. There isn’t better. Karen is absolutely incredible and I trust her completely with any question I may have in regard to my pets. We adopted our little girl to take her to her forever home with us and the care, attention, knowledge and information is second to none. The information pack provided has so much useful information, love and passion for the animals. So much effort and time has gone into the pack it’s amazing! There’s everything you would ever need to know on how to care for your little one and there’s even numbers to call for further help and guidance. There’s even instructions on how to make chew tubes and boxes and what to put on it. You can really see that the welfare of the animal is the main priority and I would only ever go here for a new furry friend or information and guidance. Thank you so much for our little girl and she will be unconditionally loved ❤️

Absolutely wonderful staff members and the shop has so many amazing products for ratties and other pets! We got three boys from Scallywags about a month ago and they settled in so well. They’re very cheeky and adventurous but they also love to sit in our pockets and have a little cuddle and a nap 🥰 The team are extremely knowledgeable about the species and they have great starter cages in store too! We already had a cage as we’ve got three older boys too, but they have a lovely selection to choose from if you don’t already have one. They’ve got a little play area for you to meet your new babies and make sure they’re the right fit for you and they’re comfortable with you etc. We were also sent home with a large information pack and it was super helpful! ❤️

Fabulous pet shop - you can tell they definitely know their business with all things pet related! Great selection of foods, treats, bedding etc, especially for the rodent and bunny variety, which is normally harder to find. And they breed absolutely scrumptious hamsters - my Wendy is an absolute unit!

First experience of visiting Scallywags today and it was amazing, we went to pick up two baby rats and the knowledge and care for the animals that are bred here is second to none. Such a great range of accessories and food, the animals are so well looked after and the staff are incredibly friendly, we will be returning in the future for more accessories and maybe even more babies.

Honestly love this pet shop and how helpful and friendly the staff are. It's clear that they all love animals, and there isn't a single lunchbox cage in sight which is refreshing. If they are strict with customers it's only because they actually care for the animals. It's important to be wary as most people unknowingly mistreat rodents, especially hamsters. Recently picked up my second Scallywags hamster and she is like a bear! They also provide you with a booklet with a ton of info, including homemade treats/meals. Should be shared with anyone wanting to get a hamster.

Karen and her team at Scallywags are the most professional and caring people and quite rightly put the needs and welfare of the animals above all else. They have been there for us with support and advice with several pets and they couldn’t do enough to help us through animal illnesses. We recently rehomed a rabbit from them and so much information was shared and they even put the bunnies together to check they would bond well. We now have 2 very happy rabbits and even happier owners. I would not hesitate to use their boarding services again, our rabbit had the best holiday with them and so well looked after. They stock everything you need and are always making sure that they stock the highest quality products, in the best interest of everyone’s animals. Their small animal grooming is amazing, after bad experiences I’ve had taking rabbits to vets for this, you know the animal is being carefully groomed and with their health in mind. You really feel like part of the family with Karen and her team.

We were so pleased we have adopted Sam(the Hamster) from Scallywags, It was clear to me after the first 10mins of Karen's Hamster Guidance that they take pride and loving care breeding Hamsters. Life time support yet isn't required by law, with her guidance little Sam will have a fun and long life. I can't stress enough that if Genuine animal lovers want give a home to a Hamster then Scallywags should be the only place you'd seek advise and adopt from. Thank you Karen.. oh attached Sam's house all set up and yes he's still moaning :-)

Brilliant shop, so different to the typical pet shops around. Animals are all amazingly cared for and they only sell items that are good for pets! Highly recommended.

After a catastrophe last night, and a few Facebook messages, Karen and Kim were very kind in opening shop to take care of my very young ratties until this morning. Karen & Kim were very helpful and I am extremely grateful for their assistance. 10 out of 10 isn’t high enough for the service I received. What a fantastic Pet Shop. We were looking to buy some Gerbils and had read that they breed their own although they were 30 miles away from us. From the initial phone call with Kim and then meeting Karen in the shop, it was perfectly clear that the welfare and future happiness of their animals was of paramount importance. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and we left with 3 very cute and healthy baby gerbils! Can’t recommend this shop highly enough!

I cannot believe that we haven't visited this pet shop sooner. As a rat owner I am always looking for pet shops that have enough variety of small animal treats, toys, bedding and cage accessories. Not only did we find this here, Karen also had so much knowledge and recommendation's when speaking to her about small animals which I found such a comfort. With the amount of love and care that goes into the animals that she has there, there is no doubt in my mind that when it comes to purchasing a fur baby in future, here will be the place I will be getting them from.

I adopted a lovely hamster (Pixie) from here earlier this year, and returned again more recently to find a friend for one of my guinea pigs who fell out with his cage mates! Karen, and all of the staff, were really kind and helpful on both occasions - with Karen being extra patient while we tried boar 'dating' to find the perfect match for my dominant piggie! There's also a great range of stock and products, especially their Chari hamster cages which are huge!

Well. Where do I begin. Amazing is a word that doesn't quite cover this shop and the team within. Lovely knowledgeable staff and a great range of products. I have been shopping here for nearly eleven years and would highly recommend that others do the same. What a gem of a pet shop. The staff are soo knowledgable and helpful, they are genuine animal lovers and have really helped me understand rat behaviour and feel more confident with how to look after them. The prices are competitive with online products and they have examples of home made cage toys /set up for rodents/rats. So glad this shop exists!

This is the best store for absolutely anything relating to pets. They have a great range of good quality food and a superb range of products including their wonderful seasonal specials and enrichments too. Unlike many large chains, they will never sell anything that is not in the best interest of the animals, for example cages that are legal but too small for the best health and comfort of the animal. The staff are lovely, and despite however busy the store is, they still manage to spend quality time with each customer. What I love the most is the comfort that they give to the owners - I've lost count of the times I asked them a question as i was a little concerned over one of my pets, and the knowledge that they have and the caring they display are priceless!

My dog Teddy loves going here for he' haircut. Di and the girls are so lovely and he always looks amazing once he's been. Wouldn't take him anywhere else xx

A big thank you to the staff of scallywags, they were so helpful and understanding when i had to drop off my adorable pet rabbit to be re-homed, they let me spend as much time as i wanted to say goodbye to my much loved bunny, they told me that they knew how hard it was letting go of a family pet, i was in tears hugging my bunny saying goodbye, wish i could have kept her forever if it wasn’t for impossible circumstances, but they assured me that she will have a good home there for now til they find her a forever home, and they always make sure the animals go to the right families or person. Thank you so much for taking care of sweet rabbit, i will miss her dearly.

Have been using Scallywags groomers for the past 3-4 years and they have always done an exceptional job with my dog Simba who is a chow-chow. Recently things changed without any notice and I was told they no longer do long haired dogs as too much much work?.. Diane who is in her 70s said due to her age she is not taking simba on anymore however still does larger breeds and has an open booking service for new customers , I was told simply to find another parlour by text! and was completely dropped. I now have to find another parlour at short notice in peak summer with my dog suffering in this heat . They have no loyalty when it comes to their customers and if they can’t be bothered to book in they simply won’t! I paid them £65 every couple of months for a full groom which is very overpriced for a medium sized dog but I did so out of respect and came back because I thought we was welcomed and now out the blue they have gotten personal and rude about not being able to groom my dog because he is too hairy?? This is poor and just lazy instead of employing younger staff or closing the parlour for good this is how they treat you . We are left feeling very upset at how it was left and now I feel sorry for my dog. Not good enough and not fair , no notice no signs or announcements and simply not treating customers fairly . I would suggest they review their business module and possibly sell or retire instead of lying and throwing away loyal customers at the drop of a hat . If you are Thinking of going there for a dog groom ? Don’t bother! They take 3 hours to groom and charge a fortune and then drop you when the feel like it. All the best Scallywag

Great pet shop and dog grooming. Bought rabbit supplies here for several years before our bunny passed away. Animals in the shop always look healthy and well cared for. Good selection of food types and treats for many types of pets. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful if you have a question to ask.

My Staffie is a nervous little chap and we visited the store this morning and the staff were so kind and friendly and put him at ease, thank you for your time as it was very busy. (Hoping to book him into the parlour after a few more visits). Also they were happy to offer advice and very knowledgeable regards a raw diet. Great staff.

What every pet shop should be 💙💙💙 The animals at Scallywags are so obviously we'll bred, well handled and very well loved. They are worth the wait. I was also incredibly impressed by the items stocked at the shop as ALL were suitable, which is not the case for most pet shops. I can't thank the staff enough for my new boy 😊💙

An amazing little pet shop, natural food, forage, decent sized rodent wheels and cages. Some items are pricey and others cheaper than online stores so worth a visit for a browse. Great to support a local business even though I personally drove 45mins to visit as I heard it was well known for breeding loving gerbils and hamsters. Only negative I give the shop is with some of the pick and mix items I found labelled suitable for chinchillas had nuts/seeds/fruit/vegetables in them which in my own research they shouldn't have, so only some natural floral items were safe for them
